  1. I’ve ordered one. Be here on Monday hopefully.
  2. AC/DC Live at Donington and Steve Vai live at The Astoria. Dont think there are any others.
  3. I'd have a proper look at the Miller versions. the EQ seems to have far more sensible freq centres. The 500W version is likely to be my next amp purchase.
  4. Thanks chaps. Sounds like a good bit of kit.
  5. I'm looking for an outboard preamp to basically turn passive basses into active. the obvious choice is the Sadowsky which is identical to the onboard systems on their basses, but it's expensive and it is boost only. I had not heard of the MXR until recently. I realise it is advertised as a preamp and DI box rather than a onboard in a pedal format, but some reviews suggest it is very clean and works very well that way. I notice the bass and treble controls have the same freq centres as the Sadowsky too. Anyone using one? How are you getting on with it? ta
  6. This. I play in a 25 piece big band with a load of noisy brass players. I often use a 300W Tecamp head and a single Barefaced One10. I only take the second cab when the audience numbers get to about 200. And even then it's for a better spread rather than volume.
  7. Right then. I need to make roughly £2300 to be able to buy a new lightweight 4HH Going to have to catalogue all the pedals and amps and guitars and stuff I don't use anymore to see how close I can get.
  8. It is both pointless and stunning! Love it!
  9. Yup. Venues tend to be sports hall type places with audience numbers of about 200 We've got 4 of the noisiest trombone playing flipers you ever imagine and I'm usually right next to them.
  10. I use 1 for rehearsing with a 25 piece big band. And 2 if I'm gigging with them and need more spread rather than volume.
  11. My local is a PMT. The staff are friendly. The choice of strings is limited. The choice of basses are limited. There's loads of cheap stuff but I'm not in the sub £1000 bracket. But when they do have something more expensive that I might be interested in (and it's almost always a Fender) they like to demo it through a tiny combo. The approach to other instruments seems to be better but I don't spend money on other instruments. Oh - and the parking is sufficiently far away that if I was buying an amp or cab or something heavy I'd need a sack barrow. They'd have to move the shop or get their own car park to make me visit more.
  12. Yup. Eich / Tecamp are very strong in the mids. It's just annoying that the treble control does absolutely nothing as it is set too high. I still really like my Puma though.
  13. The more I revisit this thread the more certain I am that I will just have to own one of the new Specials. The only question now is 4H or 4HH Can the 4HH sound just like the 4H?
  14. I've got a TC Mic Mechanic and it does provide a gentle bit of assistance. As it happens I only use that bit of it when I have a bad cold. But the other bits - the D-esser, compression, and the excellent EQ built in is superb. Far better than on most pub grade desks.
  15. I love how the swearing filter swapped a$$ for donkey in this context!!
  16. Black. (Also - shell is NEVER the right answer.)
  17. The MXR is glitchy. That’s part of the charm. I have one too. Pickup choice makes a huge difference. It’s less glitchy when getting a signal from only 1 location on the bass. But it’s still glitchy. But if I want perfect tracking I’ll use a MicroPog or the BSW.
  18. I was fortunate enough to have a sax teacher (multi-instrumentalist and composer Colin Cowles) with the same approach. Academic study and artistic application in composing or performance (and indeed practice and rehearsal) were all taught as separate concepts. I played in a 14 piece sax ensemble and it was some of the best fun I've ever had in music.
  19. That would go nicely with my Entwhistle bass book.
  20. Never liked Bareknuckle. Impressed with the Nordy's I've had. LOVED the Aguilar 60s wind P I've got. It's thick and throaty and reacts so well to playing strength.
