  1. If, as a white man, you want the freedom of speech to say the "n" word then you are going to have to deal with your audience having the freedom to call you a racist. Don't worry though - you can just decide to not take offence to that. And the venue manager will have the freedom to not book you too, because he doesn't want his establishment trashed. If you can't tell the difference between a black artist using a reclaimed word on a CD and a covers band of no importance using it then I despair.
  2. Thank you. The amps just made my "must try" list.
  3. Would you actually use the "n" word in a performance? An artist doing original works may well want to ignite debate, or make a point. But a pub covers band? They've just picked the song because they like it. They are not invested in the subject. It doesn't mean as much as to the original writers - and the cover performer cannot truly know what the original intent was. I can't think of much more stupid (within music anyway) of the chance a white man might use the "n" word when covering a song in a pub. Might get a kicking, might even get a conviction depending on what the rest of the lyric was.
  4. Kirsty MacColl regretted using the word "faggot" in "Fairytale of New York" and even when performing it live in the same year it was released changed the word to "blaggard" She never got a chance to re-record it as we know. I love the song, and I amend it as the writer did. There is a difference in preserving history as it was and actively presenting outdated terms as entertainment.
  5. The F1 sounds quite a bit different to the LM series. I had both. If I was buying again I'd buy the Marcus Miller version. The EQ points are far more sensible.
  6. I just read the review of the amp in the mag. NO FAN!!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO! I hate fan noise with a passion. @ryanowens does the bigger version have a fan? Your website doesn't actually say either way. It's such a big selling point for me that I always look for whether an amp has a fan or not.
  7. The new 2018 Ray Specials have an average of 8.5lb for the 4 string - but some on Talkbass have bought a few and found the odd one under 8lb! That's what I'm looking for. They land in September. A 4HH at 8lb would be a dream come true!
  8. Either enjoy the space not having the other guitarist gives you as it also gives the audience a break from the wall of sound, or listen to more Jack Bruce and move the bass part around. Cream never sounded thin. Do some walking - or play some octaves with the drums. 3 piece bands (or 3 musicians and a singer !) are the best fun for bassists. Enjoy it!
  9. Mono for me. I've got the Vertigo and the Sleeve. Very happy with them.
  10. I use them too. No problems, ever.
  11. I decided to put them on my PJ-Ray. As with every single flat B string I've ever used the B is a little woofy. But not so much as other brands. With luck it will bed in a bit anyway. The other 4 strings - lovely! the PJ-Ray has an Aguilar 60s wind P pickup and a Nordy Big J Blade. All passive. Sounds perfect for motown and Duck Dunn stuff. That will do pig!
  12. Does anyone care what non-players think about when buying an instrument?
  13. Why do you want a USP? Theres about 20 billion versions of jazz and p basses everywhere. The only USP anything has anymore is the name on the headstock.
  14. Sandberg did that years ago. VM2 model.
  15. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Neotech_straps.html Neotech Mega Bass Strap. Very comfy. I now have them on all my basses.
  16. I've got a Sleeve as well as the Vertigo. It's a lot lighter and better for a lot of walking. The Vertigo gives more protection no doubt, but it is double the weight of the sleeve and if I put the Tick on it as well with a Nano board and 4 pedals - that adds a lot more weight and can make me a bit unbalanced.
  17. I don't think I've ever heard a Mike Pope preamp in person. I'd like to though! Ideally in the bass rather than the amp - but either way would be amazing.
  18. Midi controlled would be awesome. I think I'd pony up for a Boss ES-8 then. Assuming the DG midi controlled thingy didn't cost me a grand.
  19. Also - don't flip about. If you haven't got the assistance of a credit card company then Money claim online against where you bought it from: https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome
  20. Ah - I though you bought it knowing it was pinched just to get it back for Scott. Fair enough. As you were.
  21. They'll have tons of crap note choices if I'm playing it!!
  22. There is no way I'd ever be able to buy a Fodera so I'd be thrilled to win that. I'd keep it and gig the crap out of it.
  23. You bought it? Knowing it was pinched? I can see all sorts of difficulties coming. Please tell me you bought it with a Credit Card?
