NAD: Markbass Marcus Limited (Yes the Iron Man one!)
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
It’s safe to say the slap tone is immense. Ive got a big band arrangement of Uptown Funk and it just wallops through like an anvil launched by a cannon. Love it! Touch of compression in it now stops me scaring the children! -
New amp arrived. First thought - ye gods it is punchy! Way more punchy than my Darkglass. To the point that I will be compressing the shite out of it! Far punchier than any other Class D head I've owned. It's hefty! Second thought - ye gods is it loud! Third thought - Fan noise is louder than my Darkglass, but I am trying to relax about such things as in the house I most often use my Helix and studio monitors, and when I'm playing with a drummer nobody will care. And the most important thing to those who think MB amps look child-like... it looks like Iron Man. So you are wrong. Very different tone to the Darkglass of course. Only had 5 mins with it at lunch time so far, with my Sandberg Super Light, but those Marcus tones are there, and more old fashioned is easy to dial in too. Not a sterile sound either, just clear and warm. I'll try my P bass with flats later. Alas the big band only meets during term times so I've got to wait until September before I get to play it with the band. Looking forward to it though!

Thank you. This has me thinking!

Do the low B's work at 32 inch scale?
-
They don't seem to pay much attention to bass though.

Ooo! Just got an email. My new Marcus Limited (yes - the red and gold one!) should be here tomorrow!

Full. The extra connections are awesome for recording and it also has a mic pre so you can run vocals through it as well. It's also built better. Scribble strips are one of those things that you don't need... until you'e tried it and then wonder why everything doesn't have them.

I don't care what my amp looks like. I don't even care what my bass looks like. Of course I realise that if I turn up to a big band gig with a BassLab instrument I'm unlikely to get the gig, but if that instrument makes me play best then the band either puts up with it or gets someone else. And I'd have a Caterham or an Ariel Atom over a Ferrari any day of the week.

Getting sacked. How do you deal with it.?

Never been fired, but I quit several. For some I tried to find something new quite quickly, for others I had some time off. Depending on what the reason for quitting was. -
Met Johann entirely too early this morning when he collected my Boss Katana 😂 And I got to play his 63 strat. Which was nice! Good to meet you. Hope you got to the next gig in time.

Billy Sheehan. Until I found out about him I was unaware of such an approach on the bass. Really opened my eyes and made me practice like a demon, but also remembering that for 90% he played a solid and well composed supporting part. He made me realise what the bass was capable of. And although these days I’m playing in a big band and not rock I try to have to old attitude that, yes. The bass can play that other part as well if needed.

Nobody wants firsts dibs on my incoming Marcus Limited then 😂?

Some you can. Others you can't and you'll get distortion of a lack of headroom. If it's a valve pedal I doubt it very much. May even damage it.

I'd like to hear the amp with a P bass too. Just for curiosity really.

Should be next week!
