  1. I put 4 of them on my Urge 2. They sound awesome. Unfortunately it needs a pretty big truss rod tweak and I haven't got enough movement to cope with the heavy strings. At the moment I can't afford to have the truss rod replaced so my options are to buy a lighter gauge or go back to my old strings on it. Bah. Proper annoyed. They sound great.
  2. Doug didn’t go into specifics, but he announced it on Facebook a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the maker of the mystery mystery parts are stopping production of that part.
  3. Sandberg Electra? All Sandberg necks are the same - much closer to J than P.
  4. At the time I don't think the P-Type was available. Maybe I should have just put a preamp in it. It was a lovely bass.
  5. Lovely things. I sold my ABZ5 as it was a bit too polite for me, but I'm really looking forward to trying the NG3 5 string when they get here in enough numbers to actually try before I buy.
  6. The complainants didn't complain about the "Viagra Substitute" one though. Steel Panther are a comedy act. This is part of it. TC should not have removed it over a petition with fewer than a 1000 signatories. It wasn't offensive. It was puerile and juvenile but that's about it. The complainants should also read about the Streisand Effect. Spectre Media Group / Glenn Fricker have started a petition the other way! https://www.change.org/p/rad-people-reinstate-the-meow meow-melter-preset-on-tc-electronic-effects?recruiter=21779915&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=psf_combo_share_abi
  7. Many didn't have logos on headstocks. The neck looks right to me. But that does look like a preamp change has happened at some point. Aside from the pickups it looks like an Energy series. Ask on http://www.statii.com/ all the status nerds are over there.
  8. Ooo! I've always wanted the board on my Urge 2 to be a bit darker. I might give this a try.
  9. I had a Mesa 4:88 for a while. 265W IIRC It was astonishingly loud.
  10. They have arrived a bit early. I'll try to get them on this evening.
  11. He's awesome. That lovely clanky bass sound that really cut through the scooped guitars. Slayer are by far my favourite of the Big 4, but Anthrax are right up there. Great fun live.
  12. I've started finding all the little things I've got that I never use in the hope of raising some cash. Pickups, parts, guitars, amps etc. Even old DVDs and stuff. I really want a 4 string with that dark maple board.
  13. It's just a tool. I play a 5 purely because I get piano scores rather than bass parts and I like to be able to play the low end without having to thing about changing things. Half the time I don't use the lowest notes but I have more positions to play in because I can play across the board rather than up and down. TBH anyone who does the "4 was good enough for Jaco" routine is a weapons grade silly billy. There were hardly any 5 string basses around at the time. There was the 15 fret Fender V 1965 but the first really popular 5 was the Stingray and that wasn't introduced until 1987. The year Jaco died. Wal and Alembic did some before that but they weren't common or affordable. Who knows what he would have done if he had lived longer. But one thing I am sure of - he wouldn't have said - "Oh look! a 3 string double bass was good enough for Bottesini so that's good enough for everyone"
  14. The copper one is lovely - needs a black plate though.
  15. Almost everything I would have thought. Bass is not the prominent item in 95% of music.
  16. Thanks chaps! Lots of things to investigate there.
  17. I have no idea where to put this. I have an iPad. I have tons of pdfs of music. I'd like to be able to use my ipad and flip pages. I understand there are blutooth options for pedals. Can anyone recommend both an app and a pedal rig (ideally with forward and back options?) And do any of them deal with repeats and Codas etc? ta
  18. I do exactly this. With this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000KTC5AO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's Post-It tape so it comes off again without damaging the page.
  19. He was just a member of the old Musicradar forum. Then Stephen Fry shared a video of him on Twitter... and now he's got a career.
  20. They get plenty of applicants but they also want enough numbers of particular types of act so that's when the emails go out. I read somewhere that shows like the X-Factor often get tons of individual singers but less groups etc, so they search for more groups to go on the show. They also target up and comings - Jon Gomm was invited to X-Factor 2 or 3 times until they got the message he wasn't interested.
  21. Lovely. Understated and classy (unlike some of the more expensive models). I like that a lot.
  22. Mines the Rack version. It was a tough choice - keep the brain away from the beer or go for an easier carry. In an ideal world I'd have the floor as well! But I don't have the money for that.
  23. which model / size is that please?
  24. It's for when I can't take my rack. I'm not lugging that about for the music trust I'm playing with - room & ensemble changes every 40 mins. Not a chance! It's for my small board that I take for that sort of thing.
