  1. 2 options I can see. 1: He thinks because it will be a rosewood board the value will go up. 2: He doesn't want to sell but he wants his wife to think that he is trying to sell it. This is a useful tactic. Ahem.
  2. I've had regular white nylons and really liked them. Seemed to have a harder surface than the black nylons, and were smoother to the touch.
  3. The tension on the La Bella low tension flats is only a little higher than the TI. They are very close. If you like your La Bella FLs you might want to just try a lighter gauge of them instead
  4. I like old steels. The ones on my Marleaux have been on for about 4 year and they are great. My P-Ray has La Bella Low Tension Flats. I really like them, but they are a bit crap for modern rock. Old steels would suit better but it’s a bright bass and it would take years to bed in a set properly.
  5. Crisco is a solid veg oil. Veg lard really.
  6. I just spent an hour reading threads on Talkbass about speeding up the wearing in of bass strings, particularly if only 1 needs changing. There’s actually discussions about using E45 or Euracin creams or chicken fat or submerging them in melted crisco before putting them on the bass. flipping mental. What’s up with those yanks? i don’t like super bright newness but I’ve got a tone control.
  7. I used them for rehearsal this morning. Lovely tone. Sat in the mix really well. Did Stevie Wonder, Mickey Bubbles, Blues Brothers, Louis Armstrong, and some Latin stuff. I went for a bit of a Duck Dunn tone. Not too bassy, plenty of mids and knocked the treble off on the bass. Very happy. They’ll be staying on my P-Ray.
  8. Very kind of you, but I'm shortly having surgery and will be off work for a while. Not the ideal time to spend money on fun things.
  9. The ash bodied one makes my nethers twitch.
  10. Wait! Even 4rse is caught by the swearing filter now? What is this? Why is the forum turning into a middle aged Mary Whitehouse safe place when most of us are hairy 4rsed pub rockers?
  11. I would be very surprised if a Fodera couldn't cut 50% off their prices and keep the same profit margin simply by moving away from New York. New York rents are some of the highest in the world. If they moved to the derrière end of Kansas where it's all farmland their overheads would plummet.
  12. I bet it's aimed at guitarists.
  13. Of course many people aren't getting paid enough. Why on earth do you think multi-national companies do their manufacturing in countries without adequate employment regulations? Here's the rub though. Someone might only be earning 50 pence per hour to make a bass in a far off country. But that 50 pence per hour might actually be higher than the local average and without it they might starve. There are no easy answers though. If you struggle to eat then underpayment is better than no payment. On the flip side 1 company "over-paying" for the area (in other words paying an acceptable sum) might destabilise the local economy. You'll be wondering how Tesco can sell a whole chicken for a quid next.
  14. I'm lucky with my neighbours. Technically we are detached, but due to various extensions built over the years there's about 1 inch between. A few years ago Neighbour 1 was having trouble with his teenage daughter. He was embarrassed about the music noise. She had her window open and was blasting Cypress Hill out. I said I reckon I could stop it with 1 conversation with her. I saw her later. Told her I approved of her music. She was surprised I had heard of Cypress Hill (!) I told her they were one of my favourites. And then I started to rap Insane in the Membrane at full volume in the street. With dance moves. 10 seconds later she was running away from the greying middle aged man rapping outside her house. Job done.
  15. I wouldn't go that far. But I would say that playing amplified to the point where you couldn't simultaneously listen to a TV show might be.
  16. Turn it down for a week. It's only a week.
  17. Ye gods. that is perfect. I suspect I'm about £10,000 short of being able to ever have one though!
