1.
Trying the helix native plugin version has kinda put me off getting a helix. I found it very difficult to dial In the effects. Can anybody that's used both floor unit and plugin comment on the usability- sound comparison?
The sounds are identical. I find the hardware easier to use than the plugin though.
2. Phil Bynoe is using one too. It's stunning for bass.
3. Equity and other bodies like that insist you have a name that isn't being used by anyone else to avoid confusion.
4.
I've always thought Rush are half of a good band. I really like Alex's multi-tracked chordal guitar playing and even his late 70s lead style, before he got all the digital reverbs (side 2 of Hemispheres >> Moving Pictures) and Ged's bass playing - and tone - is tremendous. I've always loathed the dodgy politics, excessive and showy drumming, 'the voice' and 90% of the material (everything except side 2 of Hemispsheres >> Moving Pictures). They don't seem to understand the idea that leaving things out is a good thing. Taste, basically. Ged's playing is great though. This. I have 'Live at Leeds', 'Meaty, Beaty, Big 'n Bouncy' and 'Who's Next' and that's already too many Who LPs. On paper they look like a winner though. In my case, I put i down to Daltry really - I never really rated him. Band's you'd like with a different singer or no singer would be a good thread. I'm sure that's where 90% of the 'over-rated' comments come from. Esp where The Smiths are concerned.
Lifeson makes my teeth itch when he solos. In fact I'm not sure he does solo. I think he throws the guitar down the stairs and just records that.
5. Beatles - but can't stand either singer. I love the songs. They are well crafted and well performed but I've never liked L&M's voices. I've got tons of cover versions of their songs in various styles. They could have been massive with a better singer...
6. Oh man, I'm dribbling. It's beautiful! I'm buying a lottery ticket.
7.
Now try with IEMs and see where your 8ms wireless latency combined with digital fx pedals (typically 2-4ms each) and digital desk (the best are around 2ms and under) (and maybe digital plugins - depends upon plugs in transport to and from your desk to the processor) gets you. And that statement that "most" wireless units are between 5ms and 8ms is woefully wrong... try sub 3ms. If any device is reporting 8ms latency, it would be wiped from my purchase list as a wireless is not having 80% of my latency allowance. Anything over 10ms direct into the ear is unacceptable -. Ive said it before, Smoothhound with its 8ms latency is flawed from the word go. Yes, it may get you through your pub gigs OK - and thats great, especially considering their pricetag - but beyond that, the specs on the latency front are beyond awful. Recording with wireless can be pretty useful - especially if your recording environment is noisy on the EMF front. You may say that a decent recording environment is going to be shielded against that - you'd think. I've just recorded at Universal where the operation of the buildings lifts causes noise in the studio. Acoustic treatments was excellent though
I use my Smoothhound without difficulty when performing. I only bought the G70 because of the mental deal Andertons have at the mo. I'm happy to be out of date on average latency times, and if I am then it makes even less of a difference to the OP.
8. No one needs a wireless unless they are on proper big stages. I have one though - less to trip over. Awesomely useful in sound checks for wandering around the room. Sound moves in air at about 1/1000 (1ms) second per foot = roughly 3ms per metre So every metre you move your ears further away from the speakers you add another 3ms. Distance from the speaker / acoustic drummer is far the biggest and most variable latency issue in a live performance set up. Most wireless units work between 5ms and 8ms so it's really not doing anything. I've got an 8ms unit, and a L6 G70 which is only 1.5ms I cannot hear any difference at all. Maybe I could if I was on the stage at Donington - but then I'd have a great monitor set up as well, and I'd be playing in time with my monitors, which would be right in front of me. Distance to my amp or the drummer wouldn't be a factor.
9. If you can still play in time when you cross a 40ft stage then you don't need to worry about latency at all.
10. I ordered a pedal 5 mins before midnight and it didn't arrive the next day. Twats.
11. It's not a surprise - above a certain point it costs 100% for a 5% quality increase. Sometimes it's not even that, and it's just local overheads. Foderas could probably drop 50% if they weren't paying New York rent.
12.
Harharharhar. I like your style.
I;m not joking! Otherwise I'll use the tab and I'm trying to get competent at reading.
13. Mine arrived in the weekend. It's great. I've put post-its over the tab to make it a proper music book.
14.
I looked at the Darkglass, but I was slightly put off by the emphasis on distortion settings. Not to say it wouldn't do crystal clear, so it certainly warrants more research.
It will do proper clean piano tone. I like that tone too. As it happens I often still put one of the drive circuits on but at almost zero drive - seems to add something I like without driving it.
15. Marleaux Consat Custom 5 Light, modern. 34 scale, but mine has a better B than any bass I've ever played - even at 37 inch scales.
16. My stupid money Marleaux lives in a Mono Vertigo. It's a great bag. Very sturdy, and the vertical loading approach is far more useful than it sounds. Only downside for me is that the bag itself is quite heavy. Not as bad as a hard case of course, but still worth thinking about if you are walking for miles with it.
17.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeIxJzdPD0A
Damn! Beaten to it!
18. When you get to the Snapshots you can change the values of those effects at the same time.
19.
Is the multi amp footswitch out yet?
That one? Bass Direct have been selling it for ages - it's mentioned as part of a package deal as well as a separate.
20. Another vid http://www.youtube....h?v=B8_vHaD-41I
21. Rack mount for the amp would be very useful. Obviously every pedal maker should be making at least 1 model of envelope filter! Not that I'm obsessed or anything. (I think I had about 25 of them at the height of my addiction)
22. DOD BiFET Preamp is great for this. Has a tone control too.
