NBD: Wingbass (Half-sized mini bass NOW WITH GK system!)
fretmeister replied to ped's topic in Bass Guitars
What an odd thing. I can't decide if it is genius or just pointless. -
The truth is,i am not sure if i realy need a 18" simulator. Just thinking about it. In the other hand,a 18" simulated through a 15" cab, remains a 15" cab..Maybe the EQ can make a 15" sound like a 15" simulated to sound like 18". Is it better to go flor a 18" cab? I can't find anything. I found a lot 18" cabs but all of them are old and discontinued (maybe the 18" is not a good idea and thats why they discontinued, but c'mon, sound is personal taste and companies products what sell better)
If you want a good 18 inch sound with a sim then you'll need a FRFR cab in the first place. Not sure there is a "18inch sound" anymore with new speaker tech though

BF Gen 4 cabs - not anytime soon but a new BF Amp may be!
fretmeister replied to Al Krow's topic in Amps and Cabs
Plus a tuner and some overdrive and we're there?
Tuner - maybe. Drive - nope. Too many people like too many different drive pedals. Drive pedals fall into that "I won't use so don't want to pay for it" Whereas compressors are not only tone influencing, but can also be problem solvers in certain venues. -

Put a compressor in it. Sometimes I take a stupid board with me. Sometimes my Helix. Sometimes I don't need any of that. But I always have a compressor. Would be awesome to have a good one built in. I view compression much like guitarists view a drive channel on an amp. -
Yes. Removing I don't have an issue with. Proudly displaying? I'm not sure. Destroying, I don't agree with. They're historical monuments regardless of any feeling.
Now we are getting somewhere. No one is calling for the destruction of history. Merely that certain persons and events are not celebrated. Plenty of museums have "Dictators of the 20th Century" areas, or wax works of murderers. They also have dummies with KKK white hoods on them. That is the proper place for them - museums are academic institutions preserving history. They do not celebrate such persons, they merely ensure their existence is remembered. But there is still a difference. Hitler caused a huge world wide upheaval. Pol Pot ran one of the hugest forced labour regimes in history. Stalin took Lenin's ideas and turned them into something Lenin never intended and oppressed millions of people They are historically significant. Jimmy Savile was just a nonce. There is no need to keep any statue of him anywhere. not even to prop a door open in the basement of a storage unit. -
Yes. I would. Smashing things up are what mobs do. It is an indication of how tribal people become in a group. It's not a civilised way to behave.
Leaving a statue up of one of those people is as bad as not cleaning up racist graffiti. Leaving it there may not be an indication of approval, but it is also not an example of condemnation of unacceptable conduct. -
The OP flying the confederate flag is not as bad as it is being suggested then. As there's no intent at all?
The OP has not been accused of having intent. The entire post has been about the impact on his audience. The legalities come into it partly as a matter of hassle - the standard of suspicion the police require for an arrest is far lower than the standard the CPS must reach to secure a conviction. But, as stated many times in this thread - mud sticks, and mud ruins reputation. An arrest would do that even without a conviction. And as I've stated - the flag alone is unlikely to cause a prosecution. But the nooses could. Even a failed prosecution would damage reputation. People found not guilty of sexual offences are viewed with suspicion for years. -
Apparently nobody needs to actually take offence. It only has to be likely that someone would take offence if they heard it.
Not really. The intent of the person doing the act is important too. -
Regarding the statue of General Lee, I'm against destroying historical monuments what ever they are. It's what Henry VIII and ISIL are doing. It's what they did to Sadam Hussain's statue and it was an indication of the worse things to come. Maybe an amended plaque be put up on the statue with a fuller explanation. Although I'm aware that the truth doesn't figure highly in the US at the moment.
So you'd be ok if Hitler statues had been left up? Or Pol Pot? Or Idi Amin? Unless you can see into the future you cannot claim that removing a statue of a murderer is an indication of "worse things to come" - that is hindsight based reductive nonsense. -
Maybe you can explain then, why aren't there people being locked up at the many American car shows that are regularly held. The cars are driven there with their flags and everything, they must be going on the public roads and passing police cars. I don't get it.
Selective memory again Tim? My earlier post on possible arrest was based on there being nooses as well. Noose + Flag = obvious racism. Flag alone may not be (as per the Acts referred to above). But a Golliwog = racism. The subtleties are important and obvious. And irrespective of your views on it - the bit I pasted was from the Crown Prosecution Service guide. I don't know why you are asking me why an individual policeman or 2 hadn't arrested someone for showing that flag. Perhaps it was because there were no nooses. Perhaps it was because they had something better to do. Perhaps there was no complaint from a member of the public? Perhaps they were Sun readers and didn't know. -
I've had both. Loved them both. Berg was a bit heavy. Kept the Ray. Ripped the pickups out and stuck in EMGs. Turned it into a great bass.
I'll try not to, but the fact that the Sun feels it necessary to educate people on it, would kind of indicate it's not common knowledge. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3621818/confederate-flag-racist-banned/
Why are you obsessed with The Sun? It sells abou 1.5 million copies per day. The adult population of the UK is about 63 million. It's not a useful comparator. And you may recall that when the Channel Tunnel opened the Times, telegraph, independent, even the daily mail ran stories about the amazing engineering feat and the layout of the tunnel. The Sun (presumably for their readership) limited their coverage to explaining which 2 countries it was between and how easy it would be to get cheap booze. -
I think you have missed my attempt at satire there earlier. Someone ascertained that you can be arrested for putting a golly in your window... I'm just saying that if you can be arrested for a Golly, you should also be arrested for flying the flag. But never mind...
It was me that said that. This is why your satire fails. Can and should are different. As stated, it needs plod to be made aware. -
Well. You can't have it both ways. It's either racist and illegal or it's not.
I'm not having it both ways. Illegal things are still illegal even if the Police don't know the event is happening. Crimes are committed every second without plod knowing. Something being illegal and someone being convicted for it are not the same thing. You do realise that if a tree falls in a wood and there is no one to hear it - there is still a sound? -
Context is probably the wrong word but have people really been flying it over here and decorating their American cars with it as a display of White Supremacy? Did the OP use it in that context? If so why haven't the police been arresting them?
Maybe the OP didn't realise that the audience were racist and wouldn't report it. Or were similarly afflicted by a lack of knowledge, but now they are not. Still - if it makes you feel any better - if I saw confederate flags being hung with nooses then I'd give serious thought to a complaint. -
Because American history and the civil war seem to me to be specialist subjects and not general knowledge. In fact I'm convinced that up to 2015 most British people would say Dukes of Hazzard when asked about General Lee and if shown the flag would just say Americana. In fact the OP only found out about it by being 'told' via Facebook the other day and another poster only found out about it when his brother 'told' him he should be careful after buying one while he was in the states. i.e. up to very recently a lot of us had absolutely no knowledge of these things. It just wasn't general knowledge.
Please don't assume your lack of knowledge about a particular subject in any way mirrors the rest of the population. Of course it won't be as common knowledge as purely "British" events, but that doesn't mean that knowledge is rare. -
Erm? https://en.m.wikiped...very_in_Ireland You might want to read the part about "The Irish slave trade began to decline after William the Conqueror consolidated control of the English and Welsh coasts around 1080, and was dealt a severe blow when the Kingdom of England, one of its biggest markets, banned slavery in its territory in 1102."
Well gosh. Happy to be wrong and to learn something. I promise I shall ignore some examples in this thread and actually read about it (for more than 5 mins) before having an opinion on it.
