1.
Have you thought of changing the body wood to maple? That can give more attack to the sound. Joking aside, Nordstrand would only be interested if you want 500+ You could mail Jess Loureiro. He specialises in custom pups. http://jlguitars.com/
Not true. They offered to build me a 1-off single coil last year with 17.5mm spacing. Unless they've changed policy lately.
2. If it was mine - I wouldn't care about matching it. I'd just put Hipshot Ultralites on it and improve the balance and lower the weight.
3. I am very interested in this. My main bass is a Marleaux Consat Custom. It sounds great but sometimes I wish it was a bit more aggressive sounding. The pickups are Delano and I don't think the shells are the same size as any other makes to just drop some in, and I'd like to avoid routing. The bass has a Glockenklang preamp but I'm wondering about a swap to something more sizzly. Maybe the Darkglass Tone Capsule. It's either that or asking someone like Nordstrand to make custom pickup sizes but that would be really quite expensive!
4.
I've shared this before, but it still makes me chuckle, so worth a repeat.... Many moons ago my band played a corporate gig at a very sw***y London hotel. The room was an immense space and there were several hundred guests who were dining at these large round tables, which during sound check, were set out beautifully. Full silver service, lovely centre pieces on each table and individual place settings. No expense spared. It had been a particularly early load in and during set up our old singer had wandered around looking at the place settings. Stage time was quite late and as such the singer had sunk quite a few beers by then. In a gap between songs, he starts a dedication to a particular lady at a table in our audience. We look around at each other a little befuddled not thinking he knew anyone at the gig. Once he'd connected with Mrs.Whateverhernamewas on Table 14, he then leads us into the aforementioned song with 'so this one's for Mrs.X 'cos your first name's Sally and you look like a horse - 2,3,4'. I'm not quite sure how we made it through the song.
I am close to pissing myself. Hahahahahahahahaha!
5. No. But I once appeared in a French language musical where on the last night all the roles were gender reversed. I look great in a full Can-Can outfit!
6.
Well... I started this thread and I changed my mind entirely by now. Not that these cobalt flats are not nice, they are... but I found something (for me) a LOT better. Labella White Nylon tapewounds. They are surprisingly bright, for that type of string, although nothing like the cobalts... but not all thumpy like as a typical flat/tapewounds string. They have very low tension, which actually feels pretty good and you find yourself bending strings a lot more (if you like that kind of thing)... but above all, the sound is just... that kind of punchy mids-rich almost rubbery kind of tone... On a Jazz it's... intoxicating Not cheap... but I suspect they will last a long time, and the sound and feel are worth it.
I had them on a Zon Hyperbass. They were stunning.
7. Sold my ThorpyFX Muffroom Cloud to Ryan. Fast payment and very smooth. Thank you.
8. I bought Dan's EBS Billy Sheehan pedal. Very nice it is too. All went very smoothly indeed.
9. Bump for the Duality Fuzz. Would also consider a swap for a B3K
10.
A fairly well known rock pub in Northampton that has booked us twice and on both occasions have done absolutely nothing to promote us, despite us sending in posters, creating Facebook events, contacting local press etc. The last time we played there the landlord said we were too loud (we weren't - we were balanced against our un-mic'd drummer) and spent the whole night walking around with his fingers in his ears, grinning at us. He thought he was being funny. Everyone else, including his own staff, thought he was a rude, unprofessional ****. I will not play there again.
I've played there too!
11. This thread is giving me severe gas for a fiesta red roadworn. You lot will be named in my divorce!
12. In the last rock band I played in I used a full stack of Marshall VBC412 cabs and we only had a small PA. The PA was vocal only. 6ft of cabs was plenty for most pubs though. These days I'm playing jazz / big band / orchestra sort of things and often there is no PA at all - many acoustic instruments. Getting a good bass sound that everyone can hear, but at the same time not overpowering woodwind instruments is a bit of an art in itself. In rehearsal I often sit far away from the cab and pretty much have the cab pointing at the rest of the band. Lowish volume but everyone can hear it. Gigs are a bit more difficult so I try and put the cab right on the edge of the stage, almost in a corner of the room, to split the cone shape between audience and band. But sometimes there will be a drum kit in 1 corner and a full set of timpani in the other...
13. Beautiful! The one I bought from you is still my main bass - that was 5 years ago!
14. Tune the guitar D-D and stop worrying. Drunk punters won't care.
15. I've had the HA3500 and the LH500 They sound a little different - but the LH500 is just a great reliable simple amp. It has massive headroom so you may well need a compressor to tame the peaks a bit - but you've got a Spectracomp so all is good!
16.
Do you think that if paired up with Hartke vx410 it would make a good rig?
Oh yes!
17. Selling my trust Ampeg Ampeg SVP BSP. It is a 2 channel preamp with a clean and drive channel. They can be blended together. It is the signature model for Billy Sheehan and was effectively Ampeg's version of the old and no longer available Pearce BC-1 preamp. It has all the usual massive Ampeg bass tone with a 3 band EQ on the clean side, input pad, Ultra High and Low swtiches and a built in compressor. The Compressor is just an on / off but it's still quite handy. The drive channel has Gain, Bass, Mids & Mid Freq, Treble, Vol and also has a noise gate and an extra gain boost on push pull pots. The noise gate is definitely needed when the gain is up full! The magic happens when the channels are combined - super deep Ampeg lows with grind on top. It will do subtle and it will do filth. I'm selling because I now have a Helix and because I don't use a lot of bass drive anymore as I'm getting more jazzy in my old age. It's in good nick but has a few scratches from it being rack mounted. For the full skinny here is a link to the instruction manual http://www.ampeg.com...als/svp-bsp.pdf To be honest I have no idea of the current value. I think I paid about £475 for it used but that was years ago Or maybe that was the first one I had (I've had 2). The only one on ebay is a completed listing in Canada at an equivalent of about £365 So I'll say £[s]350.00[/s] ono - collected from Northants. If I'm massively out on current values (up or down ) then let me know - I won't be offended. ta [s]EDIT - price drop to £300[/s] [s]EDIT - Price drop to £275[/s] EDIT - Price drop to £250 Also - I've had trade enquiries - the only thing I would consider would be a Fender MIM precision bass. And it must be black.
18. I can see Mr Hall seeing this as a promotion of things he doesn't like.
19. Really? I was here when it was Bassworld. That means I've wasted at least 10 years on here. That's almost as bad as discovering that I've been a member of thefretboard forum (with various names as it moved around) for 15 years. Smeg.
20. I really like GHS Pressurewounds for that. But not for 5 string. For some reason the low B sucks badly. Shame as the rest are lovely. It might just be that the tension on the B is too low, but they only do 1 size.
