1. ah-ha! Found it - the "CL" version is for narrower spaced instruments. Now I just need to see if anyone has one in stock!
2. Anyone aware of a 5 string Precision pickup suitable for a bass with 17.5mm string spacing? I know I could get Nordstrand or Mojo or someone to make one, but if there is an off-the-peg option I'd like to have a look at those. ta
3. I've been thinking about a 5 string Precision for a long time, but a Yamaha Attitude Standard 5 came up on ebay so I thought I'd have a punt I got it during the week and although it needs a proper set up I used it at rehearsal this morning. This is the bit that's annoying - it cost less than 10% of the bass I usually take with me (a Marleaux), and it sounded fantastic. It sat in the mix like only a P can do. I didn't even use the other pickup selections - just stuck with the P into my M900 with a little bit of grit for warmth. It's got a huge sound with a nice grindy quality to the mids (not surprising as it is from the Attitude line), and the low B is really strong. It is now with my favourite local luthier for a full set up (might need a little neck shim), and I'm wondering if it might end up being my first choice. It's a little heavier than I usually like, but it's well balanced. Anyone else got one?
4. Tecamp / Eich have 3 models 300w, 500w, 900w
5. I like them when done well. It's just another colour option. The hate is as logical as hating any other finish option. As for it being a passing fad - the very first relic Fenders appear in 1995. 20 years isn't a fad.
6. The Sturgill Simpson album was the best on that list.
7. They were, for comfort on longer gigs I decided to sell my everything over 9.5lb. But I had a 12 lb Yamaha before.
8. Neotech Mega Bass Strap. I've had all the back saving straps, the Neotech is the best. I have 4 of them now!
9.
My flippant answer would be anyone who had roadies. In real terms I`ve not seen anyone do this, but then aside from big bands with big stages I think it would possibly be overkill, and I mean more for the amount of gear required than the sound obtained.
My main rig has always done it - albeit starting with 2 amp heads and 2 cabs with different FX per rig. And sometimes with 2 outputs from the bass too. It was 2 amp heads, then it was 2 preamps and 1 stereo power amp, then it was 2 preamps that could split the signal each, so 4 preamp signals mixed into two pairs and then a stereo power amp. Now I can do all that in my Line 6 Helix - actually to the point of having two 1/4 output feeding bass cabs with different EQs and FX, but also have two XLR with different EQ going to the PA with different IRs on it. I like to remind guitarists that you build upwards from the basement!
10. I might have to make a trip. Everytime I go I end up spending money!
11. I've got one of these ordered https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B019CQX7CK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Rockboard (Warwick) power supply. Much like the Volto but a load cheaper. Should reach me next week - I'll let you know if it is any good!
12. I've got a countryman with upgraded strings. It's excellent.
13. Available to order on Thomann.de £325.85 I'm out.
14. Line 6 Helix Amazing machine. And this month there is a massive bass specific firmware update coming.
15. What is the neck shape like compared to the ABZ and Combustion? I see adverts saying 'new fast shape' type things, but without an explanation of the shape. I've owned an ABZ and quite liked it, but if the neck was a little slimmer front to back then the NG2 might have to go on my list.
16. The guitar demos are brilliant. If it can double with bass then I am mightily interested
17. Fantastic! Can't wait for the update to be available!
18. Why put the same thing on 4 different threads?
19. Big band & swing & orchestral at the mo. Quite a surprise after 20 years of metal!
20. Rather than start another compressor thread... I'm loving my Darkglass, but I could do with a good comp that runs on battery for when I can't get extra power cables and stuff. Obviously there is the MXR Bass Comp, but is there anything else that is really good quality? Ideally not a Ross circuit one.
21. Just spotted the new 4 way footswitch in thomann - £143 I don't need one, but I thought I'd mention it.
22. The aux in on the back of the Helix can be configured to be a 2nd input. Very useful for teaching too.
23. Going to over £300 then when Vat gets added. For most pedals I have a mental block at £200. Darkglass are the only brand I've broken that for. I'm not breaking £300 for anyone.
