Boss Waza Air now available for bass. Personal Amp System.
fretmeister replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs
I ended up buying the guitar version of the Wazas. I wanted guitar sounds as well, and TBH the full range setting or the clean and crunch guitar sounds are fine for bass when set. It's a shame the guitar version doesn't have a drum machine but it's easy enough to fire up youtube as well. Loads of drum patterns on there for practice. I love them. I am playing more than I have for years. -

The head L6 Helix guy is a member of thefretboard forum. I did put a thread up tagging him and their main UK product demo guy to ask if they had anything coming - particularly in light of the new Yamaha headphones... and there was nothing. Not a reply. Just silence. Fingers crossed then! -
As I have become slightly obsessive about this topic... I have discovered that different string brands react to the E45 cream in different ways! Dr Hi-Beams steel rounds are not as affected as D'addario Pro Steels. I do not know why yet but I have a hypothesis... the Hi-Beams are round core and the Prosteels are hex. I suspect the roundcore means there is less room / fewer cavities for the cream to get in. The outer layer can wrap on a roundcore and make contact with it in more places than it can with a hex where the contact would only be on the pointy bits of the hexagonal shape. Maybe the wrap wire is of a slightly different size too. I can't tell that because I don't have a lab quality tool to measure anything that small. The length of time the cream is left on seems to have an effect up to a point, as does flexing the string a little to open up the gaps and get the cream in. Using plenty of cream, rubbing it in, then flexing the string a little (not actually bending anything) seems to make the biggest effect. I did this because I wanted something that was a little grindier than my Dunlop flats but without any zing / overtones. I can't use nickel as I have an allergy. I wanted really old rounds immediately but without the usual old strings tuning and intonation problems. Now my Sandberg J type has well moisturised D'addario Prosteels on it and it is exactly what I was looking for. It will be interesting to see how they age further. E45 is based on Lanolin - a natural water repellent found in sheep's wool. So with that seeing into all the gaps and cavities it might even prevent some corrosion over time. I really hope this doesn't turn into a new special interest for me!

Glad to see Fender being quick off the mark and giving the punters what they have wanted for 40 years.

Sine Effects HPF and LPF pedals (and EQ stuff too)
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Effects
I go last on my pedal board. I tried it at the beginning as well but I thought that didn't work with pedals so well. I felt like the pedals were designed to get a full signal from the bass and I wanted to preserve that, and then deal with flub after. There's no harm taking a DI after it with a dedicated box, or from the amp head if it has one. Although the amp EQ controls are after it, the amp cannot boost what isn't there. So if I boost at 65Hz centre freq the Thumpinator effectively narrows the Q because it has cut off everything under about 30Hz. If I remove the Thumpinator the bass control on the amp does lead to more lows, and more flub. -
Not having lessons, studying theory, proper notation etc. I didn’t start looking at that until well into my 40s and of course now I understand how damn useful it is. I would have been able to take far more gigs if I had studied properly.

Recommendations for lightweight cab to go with Hartke LH1000
fretmeister replied to Silky999's topic in Amps and Cabs
Could get a used Barefaced Super Twin for about £700 if you are patient. More than enough power handling. They are quite an uncoloured sound which some people love, but others prefer something more vintage. Only about 18kg, with tilt back wheels. -

@Geddys nose It's not. The middle cone is offset to the side. The enclosure is the same size as a Super Twin in height and width but only as deep as a Two10 / Four10. It has tilt back wheels. Tweeter is optional.

Anything as long as it's black.

I bought my first BF cab because of the weight. Nobody else had anything anywhere near that light. I had just had a load of hernia related surgery so I bought on weight alone and was just happy that I liked the sound too. The introduction of very light cabs by BF was really proof of concept to other makers who slowly followed. Although I am still amazed Darkglass released really heavy cabs a few years ago. Then nobody bought them so they got discontinued and replaced with lighter models. Of course now there are weight competitors. GR are really light, the new Ampeg Venture stuff is very lightweight too. That's been a great advance across the board. My favourite cab in the world is still the Marshall VBC412 but I am not dealing with 110lb cabs ever again. My little stack of One10 and One10T sounds great and very similar. TBH though I never owned them at the same time so I don't know how close they really are.

As it’s called a 4th I bet it’s designed to go with the Three10
-
Never seen that before! The AMT Legend series guitar pedals are phenomenal though.
-
No. TBH I didn't ask that as I have to save up anyway! I don't buy gear on credit.
-
But significantly narrower and taller as the Super Twin is a lot narrower and taller than the MB cab.
-
I'm quite excited about the Three10 so I emailed Alex. I asked him if it was going to be vertical with a tweeter / tiltback wheels etc. His answer: Yes, vertical with tiltback wheels and a tweeter. We've had some alternate impedance drivers made to solve the annoying impedance problem! It's not going to be three 10"s in a vertical line, it'll be two above each other and one in the middle off to the side - makes for a much more sensibly shaped cab and still has great dispersion because the middles of the drivers (where the mids/highs come from) aren't side by side. Same height and width as a Super Twin, same depth as a Two10S/Four10/Six10. Same wheels and handles as a Six10. Should be v cool! Best regards, Alex This is going to cost me money. And possibly my marriage!

Who's finally happy with their rig?
fretmeister replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
I was. But today I read that Barefaced are going to make a Three10 soon. Damnit. -
So - be honest. How many of you offered to have sex with Alex as suggested?
-
I've been hassling him for a 3x10 for ages! He kept telling me it wouldn't be worth ordering the different cones to get the right impedance. I had given up and bought another One10T instead. If it is the specs I asked for - vertical, with tiltback wheels and a tweeter - then I need to start saving up again.

I went from a pair of One10 to a Super Twin 2x12 and now back to a pair of One10, one with a tweeter. I prefer the more vintage tone of their 10 inch cabs. I’ve never got close to the volume capabilities of either set up. For me anyway, a pair of Two10 would be overkill. If the pair of One10 isn’t loud enough then my hearing is at risk and the PA should be doing the heavy lifting. So no doubt at some point I’ll buy the Six10T because I’m an idiot.

It's an amazing pedal, with dozens of sounds but I find myself going back to my old favourite pedals so it is not getting used. Do not be fooled by the "Bass Distortion" name on the front - all One Series SA drive pedals can load all the drive sounds. The other pedals (LA Lady over drive and Kingmaker Fuzz) are the same inside. Even more - it can be set for dual drives - stacked or in parallel and there's a deep dive EQ system as well. The smartphone app works with Android or iOS with a headphone socket. For newer iphones you'll need to get a lightning to headphone adapter. TOP TIP - phone volume needs to be 100% when using the app to transmit the data. Or you can plug into a PC. The app and the desktop editor are free and there's loads of tones written by users in the cloud. It comes with: A longer smartphone cable that I bought separately - it's just a 1/4 inch to mini adapter cable to plug into a smart phone headphone output. Nowt special. The official power supply (as I have now found it). It might come with: A USB cable for PC connection if I can find one lying about. I think my kids have stolen every cable I own. These retail at about £190 Selling at £120 including UK tracked delivery, or near offer. PRICE DROP: £110.00 SOLD

Selling a Boss LS-2. This is the greatest utility pedal in the world. It allows signal chains to be swapped, different levels to be applied to different loops, but my favourite use has been to use as a clean blend or parallel path FX chain. It can mix dirt with clean (and set the levels of each properly) or maybe mix dirt in parallel with a chorus or phaser, or whatever you like. Has a few chips and marks, and there is velcro on the bottom. No box. £65 including delivery in the UK.
