1. If I pitch up to the local orchestra and say "bassist" then I'd be handed a Double Bass, not a bass guitar. If I just said "bass player" - I'd be asked what instrument? There's a good chance I'd be lumped with the bass clarinets. So it depends on the situation and who I'm talking to.
2. My Friedman Mini Dirty Shirley with Zilla Studio Pro 2x12. Usually fed with a selection of fuzz and overdrives, with a strat. And a univibe of course.
3. Facebook, Twitter, Forums. 99.9% vacuous content. You appeared surprised.
4.
490,000 BCers eh? Sorry for the grump, Roland. However, your eagerness to inform everyone about your new purchase struck me as vacuous because it lacked any real information. I'm sure your opinion will be worth reading when you post it.
Are you new to the internet?
5. I like it, I earned the money, I bought it. Job done.
6. The bigger the room, the lower the onstage volume needs to be. I'd go with in ears if possible, but if not then wedge cabs that point up towards your head. between them and the hopefully supplied monitors you'll hear yourself.
7. Turns out my bathroom scales have an error margin of + / - 5%. When new, they are over 10 years old. At a claimed 28lb that would be + / - 1.4 lb. So I can't give you accurate figures and I'm not buying a set of official calibration weights just to sell a bass cab. You are welcome to bring your own scales round though.
8. One guitar bands are more fun. Get your Jack Bruce on!
9.
I wonder if LaBella could be approached about making a set? I've heard of people ordering other custom length sets from them, so they might be open to the idea.
I asked a couple of years ago - There was a minimum order amount. 6 or 12 sets I think. I didn't have £300 to spend on strings so I didn't go for it.
10.
+1. Intuition says that horizontal drivers will give wider dispersion, but the opposite is true. Where the behavior of sound waves is concerned intuition is usually wrong. That's why acoustical engineers aren't born, they're made, through education.
There's a guy on another forum who claims he can hear the difference in his hifi depending on whether the IEC power cable is straight or curved.
11.
I've got a Retro Two10 and at 13Kg and -125dB I can't see the point of having 2 separate 1x10 cabs. I use mine for quiet practise at home to full on gigs with a very loud drummer. Apart from packing considerations in the car / van, am I missing something here?
Yup. When you play with an educational group that has maybe 8 room changes during a day you don't want a single ounce of unnecessary weight.
12. The first one was bought from Bass Gear in about November 2013 The second from Bass Direct about 6 months ish after that. Might have been a bit longer. I'll see if I can weigh them. I'm not convinced my 10 year old bathroom scales will be any more accurate than the official figures, but I'll give it a go. Obviously I can't say whether the scales weigh light or heavy.
13. At some point I'm going to build one too - but I'm going to do a 5 string. My far off plan is to use a Sandberg VS5 passive as the basic instrument and work from there. There are some small pickup builders who will do custom pickups to fit. Maybe in 2020!
14. Vertical is actually better for dispertion in the room.
15. As soon as some one buys my Bergs I'll do a review.
16.
That's settled then. You get the cab and we all form an orderly queue to come and hear it.
At least I've got something to aim for then - try to play properly in front of you bunch of drunks!
17. More photos to come. Selling a pair of Bergantino CN112 cabs. They have mostly been used at home, and when they've been out I've used them with the local educational trust orchestra that my kids also play in. They have not had a hard life at all. They are in very good condition. I bought them both new. One from Bass Gear and the other from Bass Direct. Although I can't remember which is which! 350W handling 8ohm Only 28 lb in weight per cab. Collection only from Northants, near Junction 16 on the M1. Cash on collection. I paid £625 for each of these - On sale at £425 each, but if you want both then £800 for the pair. Not interested in trades. Thanks.
18. I like using a single cab for small stuff - playing with woodwind instruments etc. the 2x10 would be over kill.
19. I think I'm going to do it. It's a great sounding cab, and I don't play full on rock much these days - I'm playing more left hand piano scores, big band, swing etc. The missus will be happy if the Berg stack is removed from the lounge!
20. I'm getting more tempted by the minute. I might have to take the plunge.
