1. I play in an orchestra! When there is a solo woodwind part the last thing anyone tolerates is a whirring fan!

3. I have an Ampeg SVT BSP Billy Sheehan preamp. I mainly use it as a clean sound even though the drive section (blend able ) is great too. It's a great unit.
4. The Drake Music Project does similar - even providing single finger or blink controlled instruments to disabled kids.
5. I like Ashdown heads - it's the cabs I don't like. I used to use a Marshall VBC412 cab with one. Big huge sound, far better than the Ashdown cabs. But these days - any good lightweight head and a Vintage Microtubes pedal!
6. I was wondering! For many on here playing bass seems almost a byproduct of the desire to be in a band. I enjoy playing live too, but I get just as much enjoyment playing just for me. Whether that be composing or simply finally being able to play a difficult piece doesn't matter. It's very different from my other gig - magic. Music can be very enjoyable even without an audience as the composition can be enjoyable. Magic requires an audience who doesn't know how the piece is performed.
7. Internal shot of the prototype. A B&O power unit according to Doug on Facebook.
8. I use a pair of CN112 and a single Barefaced One-10. I have no idea if the One-10 sounds like the SC, but I like the cabs for different reasons. The One-10 sounds more like a DB than the CNs do. A proper DB has less real low bass but has a really rich lower mid, and that's what the One-10 seems to be like for me. It's my first choice for orchestra type things even with a bass guitar rather than an EUB.
9. Does anyone on here actually play bass for the academic study of music as their primary reason?
10. I wish more amps didn't have fans. Fan noise annoys me so much. Tecamp, Demeter and PJB manage it.
11. Ray 5 or bongo 5 both 17.5mm at the bridge with narrow nuts too. Different neck shapes though. I like them both, but I kept my Ray5. I can't do any narrower, but Status will do 16.5mm as will Ibanez.
12. PM have been answered. Sorry for my absence. I've been in hospital for surgery. I'm housebound for a good few weeks so any sale in that time will have to be collection only. And probably any visitor would have to plug it all in to test it too as I can't lift a thing!
13. I've got one too. Amazing bass - but if you still have Marleaux strings in it, bin them! Horrible things almost made me sell the bass! Then I put D'addario's on it and all was well. I'll be buried with my Consat. It's simply the finest instrument I've ever played, irrespective of price.
14. As it has been bumped... My Sr5 now has the EMG MM type in it, and also an EMG DC40 at the neck. Vol / Vol / Tone. It sounds great and it's more versatile than before. The neck pickup does a good P impression when needed, but there is still plenty of clank from the bridge. I'm very happy with it.
15. I've had both the M212 and the S210 Both very good cabs but I would say that they are quite bright and if I was buying again I would get another M212. They don't go very well with bright amps though - but when I had an old Ampeg the M212 was stunning.
16. No. No DI on this one. EDIT: Don't be shy though - make an offer by all means.
17. Brilliant amps. I have the 300. I'm surprised this hasn't gone yet - it is now the same price as a new 300W version. That's like getting an extra 600W for free!
18. I am selling my wonderful Demeter amp head. I am the first owner and I got it from Bass Gear. It is the best bass amp I have ever owned, but at the moment my playing is limited to what I can fit around work - so the only time I play out of the house is with a local youth orchestra / music trust that my kids go to. And for that, even my tiny Tecamp head and 1x10 cab is massive overkill. Rather than sit in my house doing nothing, the money could be far better used to spend on my kids. I'll take loads more photos later. The amp comes with a good quality padded bag - the bag was actually designed for a spotlight - that nicely fits the amp, and has room for power and speaker cables and a pedal or two. The amp weighs only 10.5 lb and is in perfect condition. 19. GHS Pressurewounds. Still plenty of top end, but tames the bite. Fast becoming my favourite strings.
20. Listen to everything Jack Bruce ever did. Copy him (to start with) until you find your own way. Also listen to the greatest composer of bass / counter melody ever, JS Bach. Start simple. Put octaves in with the kick drum and snare. Add small fills or runs to the next note. Being a little busier can then make returning to just the root or playing the same part as the guitar have more of an impact. If you currently scoop your tone, add some more mids. I love playing in 1 guitar bands. It gives so much freedom and releases the bass from the root notes.
21. Sandberg are doing really well at the mo- 5 month wait for a custom order, up to 18 months now for the hardcore aged ones. Can't make them fast enough.
22.
Ouch. On the other hand, it's saved me from some serious GAS...
Westside Distribution price control is always awful, but the Streamliner and Shuttles were £699 so it's in the same bracket really. Don't think anyone moaned about Genz prices.
