1.
Well to be fair tech 21 are completely taking the piss with the price of their pedals, I mean they sound great and all but when you think that behringer can produce a similar sounding unit using the same basic tech (fet based drive circuit) for £30 I think its a reasonable assumption that tech 21 have a fair bit of cost "headroom" to dig into when pricing the head.
Not really a fair comparison though - it's not like Behringer do any of their own R&D!
2. Best strap I've ever found for a heavy bass is the Neotech Mega Bass Strap - http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product/neotech-mega-bass-weight-reduction-comfort-strap/ Very comfy.
3. I've fiddled with the action a bit now and it is playing very easily. I thought I had some spare D'addarios around but I don't so at the moment I'm stuck with the Sandberg strings. Now they've had a good few hours of abuse they are settling in very nicely. They are 45-105 and I usually go for 40-100 but I may well leave them on for a while anyway. The tuners are the new Sandberg lightweight models and the balance is very good - at some point I'll take a tuner off to weigh and compare with Hipshot Ultralites that I have on most basses.
4.
The last one was 16 days from order due to Chunnel problems and going back to Thomann
I ordered my Sandberg on Thursday. Got here Monday. I think the Chunnel disruption is over!
5.
Nice one sir - I got a passive TT4 too about two months ago. It's a lovely bass. Loving the block markers and pearl scratch plate on yours tho - are they a custom order? Have fun with it!
Nope - I found it on Thomann just as it is!
6. As above. I can cope up to 9.5lb but no heavier, and I prefer lighter. On many of my basses I've replaced the tuners with Hipshot Ultra-lights and they can make a huge difference - if the original tuners were old fashioned Fender / EBMM style with bit mounting plates. On a 5 string the swap can knock off half a pound. With that mod I now have a stingray 5 that is under 9lb!
7. Upload your pics to photobucket or any other photo hosting service. Then copy the link to the photo and paste it here - use the little 'picture' icon and a pop out box appears for you to paste into. Then it will appear in the post.
8. This lovely thing arrived 20 mins ago Sandberg TT4 passive. It's lovely and light and feels great. The Sandberg strings suck of course so I'll be swapping them this afternoon. I've had a quick blast and it sounds great. I haven't had a passive bass for years so all my amp & FX settings will need tweaking. Straight out of the box it's actually very well set up - certainly very playable all over the neck, but I will tweak it a bit when I get my favourite strings on it.
9. Close enough! TT4 I was waiting for the new shape models, but I spotted a lovely looking original one on Thomann and asked them to weigh it for me and they did. Nice and light and hopefully with me tomorrow.
10. My missus mentioned that whenever she goes away for a week with her elderly parents she "always" comes back to discover I've bought a new bass. She is never wrong, so I felt obligated to make sure she was right. I already had the crushing disappointment of the bass "loaded on the van for delivery" on Saturday and not actually getting here, but hopefully it will be tomorrow. All I will say at the moment is that I bought it when I realised that I didn't own a single passive bass and I thought I should remedy that. Feel free to guess!
11. When it was mine I used a Boss LS-2 with it. Worked great. I also had a Digitech BSW in the 'clean' loop. Was brilliantly unhinged together!
12. Gigrig system for me. It's great!
13. I had the stock tuners - worked fine for me with the Thomastiks. Didn't try any other brand of proper DB string though
14. I've only ever seen them on the Flashbacks. No doubt Warwick custom shop will do whatever you can pay for though!
15.
Oh and I had never realised the flashback has a unique design of bridge. Nice
That's a 2-Tek bridge. It was an optional extra with extra money above the standard bridge. Most of the bridge is hidden inside - it's a massive chunk of metal!
16. Man I'm jealous! I tried one about 15 years ago and I'm still gutted I didn't buy it!
17. This seems to be the best place to ask a techie question... I see that 1 wireless maker is now using 5.8Ghz rather than the more common 2.4. While I realise that 5.8 is not as congested as 2.4, is that really an issue? I have seen some wifi computer users complain that new 5.8Ghz routers are not as good at getting the signal through walls (not really an issue on a stage) Are there any advantages? Or is it really just a firm looking for a unique selling point?
18. I've just sold my NXT but I had Spirocores on it. The string wrap was a bit long on 2 of the strings (due to the ball end anchor plate being staggered) and was over the nut, but I have to say there was no detectable interference with the tone. I had intended to use a sharp blade and trim the coloured wrap but I didn't bother in the end.
19.
The Olp mm5 ive got Is a 16.5 m spacing , but my status vintage P 4 is standard P dimensions ... so i dont think thats true for all status basses .
No one said it was - it's an optional extra on a Status to have the narrow spacing. Costs more money!
