1. Sounds like someone is looking for a wife excuse for more bass buying!! I take 2 basses, 1 amp, 2 cabs and my pedal board. My pedal board is mains powered but there is a DI box on there that has a battery in it too. That's it!
2. Bit of an update. I have rehearsed and gigged with the EMG pickup and it fits in the mix much better - to the point that even the conductor has commented. Nevertheless the position of the pickup has a big impact on the sound and I find myself wanting to mix in some signal from the currently non-existent neck pickup. So, I have acquired an EMG 40DC and a 40J for the neck position. I don't know which one will be the permanent choice yet. There will be routing to come. I wish every pickup maker used a simple plug and socket system. Being able to experiment with the 40DC and the 40J without any soldering will be excellent. I have another 2 gigs before the summer break so routing will happen after that.
3. Can we have a photo of the receiver next to a standard Boss pedal? Just for a better idea of the size?
4. I think TC say only that to use 3 you have to use their cabs. No doubt that is because they are confident in their own measurements and not so confident in other brands and don't want complaints. So get a meter and check.
5.
For me a digital out would be very useful since the next unit in my signal chain is a BassPod with digital inputs and outputs (both AES/EBU and S/PDIF) so I could skip a whole set of D-A and A-D conversion. I still can't understand why at least Line 6 (who also make of lots of other digital devices) at the semi-pro end of the market don't offer it. Surely the cost of the additional circuitry and output socket would be minimal? I suppose when digital multi-effects come back into fashion for guitarists we'll start seeing wireless units with digital outputs.
To be honest I'm surprised Line 6 didn't build a wireless into the new Helix system. Now they have Yamaha money they are clearly gunning for Fractal - and if their new tech for 1.5ms latency is true then the rack mount version of the Helix could have used wireless with the footcontroller as well.
6. Thank you that's very helpful. I'm playing for the local music trust at the moment and for rehearsals etc there is no need for wireless - but when concert time arrives there are all manner of ensembles and chairs and timpani and pianos and props getting wheeled on and off and often I'm on a different part of the stage per ensemble. The stage hands are getting annoyed with cables being in the way!
7.
I'd be keen to test both verses a standard 20ft cable. I wonder if Line 6 are being a bit keen and SmoothHound conservative? Or maybe it's the other way round! I do find the 1.5ms thing a bit hard to believe though knowing the sort of latency you get through the A/D- D/A conversion of even a simple effect pedal. Very cool if it is true though. I can do a pretty 'dirty' test of latency I think but I don't have any line 6 units to run as a comparison.
The new Line 6 kit is very new - the early reviews were awful with drop outs - but the firmware was knackered and it's been fixed and the newer reviews are very good. That being said - the new Stageclix unit operates in the 5.8GHz band for (apparently) less interference from routers etc. I love the idea of the Stageclix concept with a rechargeable transmitter that plugs into the receiver - but I also have experience with a 5.8GHz wifi router and it is sh*t. I'm in the market for a wireless, but they are so difficult to A/B properly!
8. I get mine from Kabl. Always great service, never had one fail.
9. Spec page says 8ms latency. That's quite a lot compared to other products. Line 6 G30 is about 4ms and the new G70 and G75 is only 1.5ms.
10. Far easier to swap guitars for a different tuning than the re-tune on stage. Big tonal difference between a strat and a les paul too.
11. The EQ on the LH series is NOT flat when all the controls are at 12.
12. Nowt wrong with a status neck though. Brilliant things!
13. Order a new ray with the SLO neck shape. It's like a jazz / sterling.
14. The Dam Busters March. Awesome bass part to play.
15. "I was going to do a world class impression of a fat old hag. But someone's beaten me to it."
16. I gigged the HA3500 for years. Great amp that never let me down.
17. That is absolutely lovely. Please share the price when you find out. I'm getting inappropriate feelings about it...
18. Sorry! I have a lovely pair of Bergs already. EDIT: I'm not really looking at any trades.
19. If it works on the Low B then I'll have one. None of the others do. At least not properly.
20. Tall Font again! What a great sound! Be even better with a clean blend on it.
21. Bump. Don't be shy - make an offer. I won't be offended.
22. See if there is a local music trust group for kids. Donate it to them as a spare.
23. I have a TM5 already and it's brilliant. The quality is amazing. But I'm still happy that any new one I buy will be different - far too many Fender clones out there already.
