1. My second deal with Ryan. Some time ago I sold a fretless Status bass and over a couple of years it travelled round Europe until Ryan bought it. I asked for first refusal if he decided to sell and like a gent he did just that. It arrived today and it's like having an old friend come back home. Very smooth transaction indeed delayed only by frakking Parcelfarce who were a day late. So, excellent deal once again and my 'lost dog' is home!
2.
This modified Status Energy I know someone on here has it and I'd love to get it back. I sold it to Bamboo and I know he sold it on. At the time I didn't have the money to buy it back and I can't remember who bought it from him It was a fretted bass, but it was in dire need of a refret and when I spoke to Status I ended up asking them to make a brand new fretless neck for it. If anyone has it and wants to sell it, then please let me know!
I GOT IT BACK!!! It just arrived. It's really made my day! I haven't played fretless for ages so now the hard work begins again on intonation.
3. Wish I could have gone. Looks like it was great!
4.
That's another reason why I hated gigging - the mouth breathing bottom feeders who were inevitably a large part of the audience. I used to look out into the audience & wish I had a gun rather than a bass. I got an email out of the blue the other day from the drummer of my old band saying they are getting back together for a one-off gig that they've been asked to headline in September & that they want me to play. There is not enough money in the universe to even make me consider it.
I did a one-off (on guitar) about a year ago for a 50th birthday party. It was great fun and I was great seeing the guys again. Some of the guys wanted to put a new outfit together and I really did think about it a lot, and they were even ok with me not wanting to play guitar but only sing - they had a great bassist anyway. Then I remembered all the hassle about getting everyone to rehearsals and that now everyone had jobs with some responsibility meaning less time available, and 2 of us had kids. But I was still reasonably keen to give it a try... Then they sent me the set list.... Strewth. So I said no, they got someone else, then the bassist quit, other members joined and went leaving only 1 person left that I knew anyway!
5. I love playing with people. I'll jam with anyone. It the 'not-actually-playing' crap that I can't stand. Trying to get everyone available at the same time to practice, then getting everyone to a gig, sorting out how joint equipment like PA systems are paid for etc etc. That's why I now play with a local music / educational trust. Never know who is going to turn up each week, just pitch up, get given some music and get stuck in. Been doing that for about 3 years now. Very happy.
6.
The Streamliner was the best of the micros I tried, but I still thought - in keeping with the others - that it lacked backbone. The Walkabout gives me the tubey tone, and small-ish size, with the heft of a transformer. I've been happy since.
I'd be really interested to hear your opinion on the Demeter head. I've been completely blown away by it - it's got so much more welly than any other Class D power section I've ever heard - to the point that my Mesa Prodigy went so I could get the Demeter.
7. Problem solved. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zero-Mod-Thumb-Rest-Tug-Bar-for-Stingray-Bass-in-Black-No-Mods-No-Holes-/261647606658?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ceb69a382 More models are on the way for different basses. I'm waiting for the Ray5 version.
8. I much prefer the VT Bass-DI The mid control is very useful, and the B15 recommended setting is just brilliant!
9.
Sounds like people are holding onto their Genz heads then, what a daft situation that you can't just buy them new!
I've got a shuttle 9.2 and the Streamliner 900 and they are brilliant. Sometimes I think about off loading one, but then I come to my senses!
10.
That sounds good, what's the Amazon system?
You can now pay via your Amazon account. The seller has to be set up for it but I'm seeing it in more places. It's really just using Amazon rather than paypal.
11. I really like the Tech21 VT Bass-DI into a poweramp. I think I actually prefer it to my actual Ampeg pre! I reckon that would be a great match for the Demeter power amp. I have emailed Demeter and they inform me that for an extra $50 the poweramp can be built into a standard 19 inch rack unit. I'm rapidly running out of excuses! I might have to dig through my Trunk of Things to see what I can off load to raise some money.
12. I get mine here: http://www.kablonline.com/hicon.html Good quality and made to order.
13. I would not get upset at 3.5 hours. He might have read it and been on the way out to work or something. Couple of days- certainly. But not less than a day.
14. I tried it too. Sounded fine on a 4 string Status I had, but I think my brain was too used to a 4 string being EADG. Now I mostly play 5 string.
15. I just joined the Demeter club. It's a stunning amp, super quiet (the very very tiniest hint of transformer hum when my ear is on the casing!) and it sounds brilliant. I wanted a powerful amp without a fan for orchestra use and this really fits the bill. It is also very light weight. I'm actually so impressed I'm wondering about selling my Genz heads now and getting the Demeter poweramp to go with my selection of preamps.
16. I have a blue one but mine is the best. Everyone else's blue one is only worth £18.74. If you want to buy mine for £15,000 then we can talk.
17. These ones are the wrong size for me - but can you tell me where you got them for at that price please?
18. It amazes me that some people don't realise that if you gig enough then the only rehearsals you need are for new material or new members. If they can get to practice every week then they can get to a gig every week instead. Or even 2 gigs a month and 1 rehearsal for new stuff.
19.
I owned a Jazz for a while. I found the shape uncomfortable and sold it. I could see the point of making a posh Fender style bass if it avoided all the design compromises that had to be made on the original due to cost and the technology of the time, but very few of them do, so what is the point?
That's a good point. Sadowsky's jazz versions are a little bit smaller and certainly more comfortable. They are also massively lighter in weight. My Sandberg has a much flatter fretboard and has 22 frets - which I like as I have a few tapping things I like to play where I need that little extra. But most Jazz-a-likes are just that. Different headstock and that's about it.
20. Loads of builders start off by making parts guitars as they learn what works and what doesn't. I certainly wouldn't call a Sadowsky or a Suhr a parts guitar!
21. I've been buying with the Amazon system and the most I've had added is £2 so I'm quite happy!
22. The VT DI is only £158 with free delivery on Thomann at the mo.
