1. When I swapped the ones on my Sandberg I went from the original clover keys to the smaller Y keys. I don't care that it looks different - but the Y keys were another 8g lighter than the clovers (1/2" versions). On a 5 string that's another 40g. So if you don't care about keep the exact same look, get the Y keys and save more weight.
2. Valve amps with big arse transformers are usually noisier than SS amps. It's the price you pay for having that all valve tone. But you shouldn't hear it through a wall!!
3. What happened to Shuffler? I was looking forward to that!
4. I had a set in a strat a few years ago. Stunning pickups. They should be far better known!
5. This modified Status Energy I know someone on here has it and I'd love to get it back. I sold it to Bamboo and I know he sold it on. At the time I didn't have the money to buy it back and I can't remember who bought it from him It was a fretted bass, but it was in dire need of a refret and when I spoke to Status I ended up asking them to make a brand new fretless neck for it. If anyone has it and wants to sell it, then please let me know!
6.
Certainly is the wife and I were there last week! Truckstop
I need to have a trip down there. I spent a lot of my student loans in there!
7. Sod the venues. The Shapla Tandoori in Watford was the best curry house I've ever eaten at. Hopefully it's still as good now.
8. I quite fancy a 6 strung F# B E A D G. Use that 37 in scale properly!
9.
Hmmmm I like the loom of that. Anyone know if there will be lower powered variants?
300W and no fan would be awesome.
10. My very simple view of cabs has been that if I like the sound of a cab, and I want 'more' then get another of the same. Otherwise I'm getting 'more but different' In the 25 years or so I've been playing, I've only gone against that twice and on both occasions I was unhappy.
11. Mike Lull basses are very light too. Not played one myself, but Bryan Beller sounds great with his.
12. Whatever the song needs. Last band I was in didn't have a keys player so the bass covered that too. In an up to date top 40 band there are loads of tunes where a trad bass sound wouldn't work
13. Yup, the EBMM forum is very well known for the NO MODS, NO OTHER STRINGS EXIST, NO OTHER BASSES EXIST. YOU WILL BE DELETED! "Can anyone advise me on a good jazz bass?" "Buy a new Ray and learn to love it. - Thread locked"
14. Sounds pretty good to me, and at a good price. Certainly seems better than a lot of the similar priced competition, but then again PGS Andy makes everything sound brilliant!
15. I usually buy B strings separately as D'addario don't do I set where I like every string gauge. But I still change them all at the same time.
16.
For further conformation you could probably have posted the pic on the Ernie Ball forum, Sterling himself might have been able to confirm if it was some sort of prototype or trade show one-off. As others have pointed out it probably isn't either but those guys on the forum would have put you straight pretty quicky. Then probably banned you for posting a dodgy bass with an EB neck on it
I was recently on there and found a nice little vid of a chap who put EMGs in his Ray5. It got to about 3 replies before it was locked!! It sounded great though
17. I had a passive ABZ5 and it was very easy to play. The only reason I sold it was because I'm extremely selective about the strings I like and I couldn't get them long enough. But I would happily have a Super J which has a slightly shorter scale. I think the passive ones are a bit sterile sounding, but I'e also tried a Super J that was excellent - sounded like a very good active Jazz. The best option might be to pick a passive one and then add the onboard preamp of your choice - or even get someone like Nordstrand to make passive pickups for you that fit (They'll make anything) At some point I will own a Super J!
18. Got an iPhone? Then a Line6 sonic port and Amplitude
19. You should stick this on the fretboard as well - there's a few well-heeled guitar collectors on there. http://thefretboard.co.uk/
20. I had the White Nylons on a fretless first and lived them so much I got some more.
