    I like them too, but I find them to suit some basses far better than others. Great on my Precision and on my Marleaux, but horrible on my Sandberg TM5.

    ^ Can't argue with that. Ishibashi has a couple of Moon basses used at the moment. Excellent basses just without a Fender logo on them

    I got my Jap Precision directly from Japan. It was used and in great condition. It's been a few years but I'm pretty sure it was about £575 ish including shipping. If you want a Jap Fender then get one from Ishibashi or one of the well respected Japanese ebay sellers. Ishibashi have new and used stock - you just have to move quick when you see something you want. Top service from those guys.

    I've got an Urge 2 which I really like, but I'm as clueless as you are! Are the electronics in the Urge 1 the same as the Urge 2? Or did they get cheaper with the 2?

    I do it because I love to play music with other people. I'm long passed any ideas of being paid properly for it so I tend to try to look for things that will be fun or will increase my musical knowledge. I don't really care if there is an audience or not anymore.

    I did the same - had a RH750 but it wasn't the sound in my head. Then I got a 9.2 and all was well with the world!

It's a guitar effect that works well with passive basses, but it does fart out a bit with active ones. Andertons have them at £167.00. But has a very bass useful mid hump control - it's probably a bit smoother in sound than a regular Muff. No doubt there is something similar - and if Jeff has been paid enough then in 10 years time he would have been ready to retire anyway.

[/quote] Definitely not a baseball bat! I'm very picky about neck shapes. The TM5 isn't as slinky as a Marleaux Consat, but it's more comfortable than a Fender 5

    I never tune the same way as the guitars. If a low B isn't low enough I drop that, but the rest stays where it is. No point matching the guitars - leave the notes where they are!

    The tuners are to extend the range of the instrument, so dropping the E on a 5 string wouldn't be of any benefit. I'm confused why you can't just drop the B string down to A when you need to and play the E-string notes where they are normally. What am I missing?

    You can always get a TT5 with just the 2 jazz pickups. The bucker in the TM5 splits very nicely though. I tend to use it split most of the time, unless I'm just using the bucker, then I use all of it!

    Another vote for Sandberg here. I love my TM5, it just sounds right and it's dead easy to play.

    I have a Shuttle 9.2 and a Streamliner 900. Very different, but both excellent. I tend to use the Shuttle more often as I like the clarity and piano-tone, but I'll be keeping both!

Treble control is well spec'd - turned down it gets a nice vintage sound too.
