1. I've played it loads in bands. With the right drummer it's great fun. With the right singer, it's excellent.
2. For what it's worth - I believe that there are only two 4 string Hyperbasses in the UK 1 belonged to me until yesterday (A Mk1 solid bridge model that is now on the way to Fred in Belgium) and the other (Mk2 with the transposing bridge) belongs to GremlinAndy on here. So if anyone sees any other ones on sale in the UK, do your homework very carefully, and pay cash on collection only. Even if you have to travel for a day!
3. Lots to think about! Seems like there are a lot of good options. Now I need to learn how to program drums!
4. I always look like a twat live, so that wouldn't put me off!!
5. That's a nice bass sound on the live show. A lot of the bass demos on the Fractal website are all high gain with no proper low end.
6. Anyone taken the plunge then? Now that Fractal are introducing more bass amp models I am getting more and more tempted!
7. Bergantino I use the 1x12 version and it is brilliant. I've no reason to think the CN212 would be anything other than double the awesome.
8. I play gently. If I want more signal before a drive pedal I use a compressor to up it a little. My hand troubles disappeared when I started to do that.
9.
The list of Class AB amps is a long one (i.e non D Class) - is there anything else specifically you are looking for in spec? Weight? Power output etc? How about separate pre and power amp components? Is that do-able?
Subtle! I do have an Ampeg SVP-BSP and I currently use my Shuttle 9.2 as a power amp for it. But anything is possible! I just noticed that the Fractal Axe-FX is slowly getting some bass models that seem to be very well regarded. To get something like that and a good power amp I'd have to off load some kit too.
10. I use Berg cabs too. My lust is becoming overwhelming...
11.
How about Ampeg SVT-2Pro?
Lovely thing, but 70lb is taking the piss!!
12. Right. I have owned a bunch of class D heads and I currently own a Genz Shuttle 9.2 and a Streamliner 900. Both are great heads, but I find myself infected with GAS. I'm expecting a tax rebate so I'm thinking about getting a new head. The Mesa Prodigy Four:88 is a contender but I noticed a few people have returned them as not being as good as they should be for the money (please don't make this a Boogie = overprice thread!) but what about the M6 or M9 Carbine heads? I also fancy a Fafner 2, but that is then 3u and is getting a bit on the chunky side! All suggestions welcome! It's been ages since I've looked at amp heads ta
13. Have any UK shops actually got any in stock? Googling doesn't seem to show any - Thomann is the nearest!! I'm expecting a bit of a tax rebate so I'm half-way tempted, but I want to try one before I spend that sort of money.
14. Fall Out Boy - thanks for the memories Belting tune. Always goes down well, even if people haven't heard it.
15. The Keeley is very good. But I have to say, for value the Marshall ED1 is a stunning compressor. I reckon you have to spend Joe Meek money to do better.
16. I find it far easier to play fast near the bridge, but the 'secret' is to not put too much of the finger pad over the string so your finger kind of brushes on the string rather than hooking over it. If you find it easier at the neck because there is more tension then I'm betting you do hook over the string a bit much and you need the movement of the string to release your finger from the string.
17. I find string choice to be more vital on 5 strings. I have 2 stunning 5 string basses (Marleaux and Sandberg) and yet on both of them I thought they sucked with the original strings. Marleaux own brand strings are bloody awful. I have no idea what was on the Sandberg but they sucked too. They now have D'addario Prosteels and the low B on both sounds clear and deep as I wanted. I even tried D'addario Nickels on the Sandberg and it wasn't quite right. The B was a bit flubby, even if the other strings were all perfectly fine. I don't know why I keep experimenting with strings - I always come back to them!
18. Bump! £900 or possible part-x for Berg CN series cabs
19. Welcome! I'm a former sax player too - I know exactly what you mean!!
20. Wow! If that was 19mm spacing... I still couldn't afford it!
