1. Just spotted this http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_amps_detail.asp?stock=14060310521158 Not heard one myself but the reviews seem very favourable. Lots of money off the RRP. They've got 2 of them - an ex-demo and an end-of-line. Anyone on here use one? I'd quite like a combo...
2. It's lovely and I wouldn't mind having a go at doing something similar.
3.
It's not a "why do you like them?" question. For me it was more a "what makes this bass more special than any other Fender Jazz?" question. I could understand it if the OP had actually had a go on the bass in question and it was an awesome sounding and playing instrument, but it's just some photos in an eBay listing. So what is it?
Be fair - I'm sure it plays almost as well as a modern CNC millimetre perfect Mex built one!
4. Sorry - forgot to join in with the spirit of the thread f*** me rigid that a sh*t tune. (It's not actually, it's quite fun. But I had to!)
5. Digitech Bass Synth Wah, maybe with a hard trem in front of it to get the pulsing thing going.
6.
ok ive just paused at 50 at least half a dozen jamiroquoi but no jamerson yet , no fontella bass rescue me,....hhhrrrmmmph
He's about 20. Give him a chance!
7. That makes sense. The neck in question is about the same depth as my beloved Marleaux and has the same nut width. So it must be the profile shape that is the issue. What sort of money does it cost to re-profile?
8. I've actually got the GAS shakes looking at that. Cor blimey.
9.
I know many of you wont understand the reasons fully, but thanks for the encouraging words. After spending quite some time praying that I'm doing the right thing, I've found it's because music has always been an idol to me. One of the first things I do in the morning & last things I do at night is read about music & come on here (still doing it too!). Every spare minute if I'm not on here, I'm playing my bass or playing about with something related to music. It needs to be broken so that I have no idols. Once this has been done, then maybe music can be part of my life & not be idolised by me. Doing this has a strange feeling with it, very similar to when I quit smoking. I feel like I'm breaking free, but there's a part that is sad that the good parts shall be missed. It's not about the playing of an instrument, but my relationship with instruments. If I'm to be a musician, I'm sure it will be. I can always buy another bass/pedalboard/rig, I might come back to keys or to an instrument I've never played before like cello or sax. If it's my calling to praise God in worship songs, then most churches have their own instruments. Maybe God is just like the rest of you & hates it when I play a bit of slap bass & he's had enough.
How is it idolatry to want to learn and improve your knowledge of a subject? If you genuinely believe that music is a gift from God then in learning more about it and becoming better at it are you not respecting the gift given to you? Surely rejecting the gift is more of a problem? Your own posts show that you do not put music above God in any way. Your devoutness is not in question here - but your thought process is. So I'm going to be slightly cynical I'm afraid - I think you want to quit and you are looking for justification and justifications don't come any bigger than divine instruction.
10.
We could make you neck or mod your existing one . Check out the website if interested.
This interests me too - I have an old bass that sound amazing but the neck is just a bit too chunky. How much wood can be safely taken off? How can you tell how deep the truss rod channel is so you don't sand through the back? (Excuse my ignorance - I don't even trust myself to do pickup unstallations!)
11. If the Hipshot's don't fit then Gotoh and Schaller do lightweight options too.
12.
Loving your work there fretmeister! I'll look up the Northampton Music & Performing Arts Trust. We have a student from Brackley studying here at the moment, with three more interested for September. We could really use some drummers for our Degree too if you know of any great ones who are feeling lost after their A levels!
There are a couple of very good drummers, but they've already got their degree plans sorted out. The centres are brilliant - and when the kids turn 16 they can even get a paid job as a student helper. IIRC minimum wage for 16-17 year olds is still under £4. The centres pay over £7 per hour. So the student helpers keep learning and get way more than they would with a shelf stacking job. Main Website: http://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/music/Pages/default.aspx and the individual centre I go to: http://www.dmpac.co.uk/ I had no intention of joining - about 2 years ago I tried to deliver my eldest daughter for her first session and her clarinet teacher (and the bloke who runs the local one) press ganged me. I've been going ever since. Massively wide range of music - over the last few months I've done (trying to remember) Paranoid The Dam Busters March Habanera (Bizet) James Bond theme Imperial March Sweet Home Alabama Eleanor Rigby and apparently tomorrow I'm going to get ambushed with 3 tunes from 'Fiddler on the Roof' - to perform in 3 weeks (bastards!) Even when the kids leave to go to university, their parents can continue to attend to play if they want.
13.
Oddly enough we have converted a couple of guitarists into tidy bass players over my 6 years in the job, but it's a rare thing. Nice idea though. I'll think of a way to badge it and give it a go!
Just ask them if they want to be guitarists... or whether they want to play an instrument that will let them pitch up with any band of any kind and know there is room to join in...
14. I play with the Northampton Music & Performing Arts Trust (a series of centres run at school premises across the county) on a saturday morning. There are tons of guitarists but still not enough bassists. The teachers (not me, I attend to play as my kids are members) are more than happy to provide multiple bass arrangements for single pieces to make sure there is something for every ability. Maybe bass just isn't cool enough for teenagers! There are loads of guitarists, saxophonists, drummers, pianists, brass and woodwind players, but not bassists. Still - on the plus side, it means I get to play as much as I want!
15. Oh man! Wish I had the funds. I love my Consat.
16. And if you and not ready to walk yet, throwing in some Root-Octave or Root-5th works well enough. Treat the bass as the drums. Play on the kick drum and snare with R & octave
17. I have a kitchen scale that goes up to 10kg so I use that. FWIW I have never ever ever had a shop be anywhere near accurate on a quoted weight.
18. These days Izzy Hale does a better impression of Seb Bach than Seb does https://www.youtube....h?v=_CX3XxfXgLs
19. Allianz. I've used their other policies and they've paid out when I need them.
20. Enjoy the space. And learn to walk. And rip off Jack Bruce for a start
21. Actually this thread is making me doubt selling it. I have a rehearsal tomorrow - I might take the Urge instead and see what happens.
22.
I saw yours on sale. GLWTS. Can you get real P bass sound?
I'm only selling because I'm playing 5 strings now. If Fender did a 5 string Urge I'd be all over it! The P bass tone (with the EQ flat) is a little more trebly than on a regular P - but actually quite like a regular P with a Seymour Quarter Pounder in it. I'm guessing that is because the pickup is a bit closer to the bridge on the Urge2. But the tone is all there, just drop the treble off a bit and you are back where you should be. It's quite light too. I have no idea why Fender don't put super light tuners on everything these days.
23.
Again - not sure what they add. Yes Bono is a good investor but that's not the same as steering company direction
More likely that Bono has access to a very expensive and competent financial analyst and listens to him about where to put his money.
24. I have one and I love it. Very versatile bass indeed.
