In real life it's not as bright and the differences in the blue / green are not as obvious. I liked the photos, but I love it even more in real life. My wife is laughing her arse off at the entire concept of relics. She thinks it's just been in a shed for years. And she's offered me a cup of artificially aged coffee. And would I like a fresh lunch or aged.

Only had 5 mins with it so far, and only with Amplitude and not a real amp, but it's easy to play and sounds great. The stock strings suck arse though. D'addario's ordered!

Massively agree. When I got my Marleaux Consat it sounded great through my little Roland but sucked with my Genz rig. The bass had a spare set of strings with it, so I used them - still sucked. I was very close to gutting the pickups and preamp but then put on a set of my favourite D'addarios Pro-Steels. All of a sudden - there it was. The sound I expected. Couldn't be happier with it.

I just bought a stack of bass books from Douglas. They arrived in excellent condition and in quick time considering they were coming from Poland. Douglas was also kind enough to throw in a CD of a duo he plays in - DB and piano, so I'm looking forward to giving that a try. Thanks again!

The right number of basses is n+1 where n is defined as the number of basses you already have.

Modern speaker tech means cone size doesn't have a lot to do with the sound 'type' anymore. No doubt Alex will be along shortly with a load of maths!

I had a NS WAV4. Didn't sound like a DB, just like a big fretless guitar. No doubt better strings would help though. If I had the money I'd go for a BSX Allegro. From what I can gather, it's about the closest to a real DB. I'm in the same boat about space. I have an almost overwhelming desire to study DB but nowhere to put a proper one.

Are these the ones apparently based on the Genz-Benz tech they acquired?

I have the wah but I don't use it. It's a good bit of kit but I would describe it as understated and subtle. I like my effects to be mental!

I keep thinking about this. 99% of the time I play my 5 string Marleaux. The other 1% of the time it's my old (ish) Precision. I play with an Orchestra and the 5 string is pretty much vital for the tunes we play. A second 5 string would be useful, but the other 4 stringers just sit there getting dusty. I've owned most of the others for so long that I don't even feel they owe me anything so I might even ebay the lot and see what happens. For the first time in years I'm more worried about the music I'm playing, rather than what I'm playing it on!!

I got through 25 years of playing before I owned a Fender bass. Now I have 2. They are both very nice. Maybe in another 25 years I'll find another 2 good ones.

Is the preamp in the Fender Urge 2 the same as the one found in the American Deluxe jazz bass? I'm really liking the sound of my Urge2 but I need a 5 string and I'm looking at options. Ta.

I finally gave in and got a Duality. I like it. Ye gods I like it! My B3K might even get retired to the storage trunk. The Duality is thick and sludgy and cutting and synthy and wonderful! It seems perfectly at home with active and passive basses, but it doesn't seem to like ancient flatwounds very much! That's ok though as I only use flats with my orchestra gig, and I can't see them letting me use anything other than a bit of compression. Super fast delivery from Bass Direct as usual.
