1. 20 years?? Blimey! You are going to hate the new ones!
2.
I can only imagine your pain! Nearest I got was a nine-piece function band - drums, bass, guitar, trumpet, trombone, sax, singer and two backing singers. Challenging enough, particularly as the drummer's timing was a bit 'special'.
I've got a psycho on the Kettle drums to cope with. I can't work out if he thinks he's marking time on a Viking Longship or he wants to be in Slipknot.
3.
Then ditch that TC kit you are using and get yourself a Markbass big Bang!
That went long ago!! I'm using a Genz Shuttle 9.2 and a Berg CN112. The mid controls have been a life saver!
4.
I'm in a 3+1 and have educated the guitarist on this point. Luckily he's relatively ego-free (for a guitarist) so all is well. Mind you I can't imagine how difficult it would be with two guitarists, keyboards, brass and three vocalists...
I'm currently playing in an Orchestra. Trying to get the bass guitar heard next to the tuba and trombone is a nightmare!
5. I've had MB stuff and TC RH750. The TC was loud enough, but it had no soul. I thought the LM2 was way better, much more musical to my ears.
6. The bridge should really be all the way back at the end of the body so the neck doesn't need to stick out as far. When I buy a bass neck dive / balance is the very first thing I check as it does my head in. If there is a tiny bit and heavy tuners are standard fit then I'll swap the tuners (on a 5 string that can make almost 1 lb difference!). But if low weight tuners are already fitted then I don't care how good the bass sounds - I'm not having it.
7.
Interesting, but a 1.7" nut width ? Really ? for a 4 string ?? That's pretty extreme and would be an instant deal-breaker for me. This "type" of bass generally seems to be given a 38-40mm nut, which seems to attract the type of player who does not want to be struggling with the neck. I was actually also just about to suggest building it with a large control cavity for people to fit aftermarket preamps and then the video showed that they have done. Good call on that !
Blimey! My 5 string Marleaux is 1.77 inches // 45mm Can't imagine that on a 4 string!
8. I believe the expensive ones have their new vibration and wood ageing process like on the Attitude 3.
9.
How do you get on with the Fender/Boss reverb, something ive never tried on bass ...
It's very nice. I've got a Hardwire Supernatural as well, but the Fender one just sounds better for bass. Difficult to describe, but it seems to enhance the original sound rather than being an actual effect. Particularly nice on chord work and fretless.
10. Just rebuilt my board Still like to get a Duality on there for some fuzzy nonsense.
11. I had a Nitefly-M (Proper neck with a mahogany body) The stock pickups were a bit crap but with a change it was lovely. I traded it for a PRS CE22 in the end. The only problem with the original Fly is the frets. The glued on, tangless frets can become unstuck if you store the instrument too hot. I've heard from luthiers that using the recommended super glue to put them on again just doesn't work, and a much stronger adhesive is needed.
12.
which bit of Northamptonshire? You're welcome to have a noodle on mine if you're reasonably local to Northampton / Daventry. The other side of Corby is not so convenient
Oo! I'm about 10 mins from Junction 16 on M1, so I'm close!
13. I have serious lust for a 5 string precision at the mo but there don't seem to be many about to try. Are the 5 string necks the same as the jazz 5? Anyone got one near Northants that I could try out? Lunch / beer on me of course!
14. A 5 string Precision. Ever since I put nylon tape wounds on my jap 4 string I've been gassing for an extra string for orchestra use. Never seen one in the flesh though, would have to try one first as I'm picky about neck shapes.
15. I thought as much. 9 lb is about as much as I can manage with my back. Might have to save up for a Mike Lull or something.
16. Fender don't publish weights of their instruments, so can anyone tell me how much these weigh? Am I going to find one under 9lb?
17. As it says! The lovely white version of the EVH 5150iii 50W amp head. Complete with footswitch. Got this in January this year from Andertons. Brilliant amp but now I've got my Suhr Badger I'm not using it. Only used in the house, still has the plastic sticky things on the logos. So less than 4 months old with all the bits. It's effectively brand spanking new. [s]£625.00 collected from Northants.[/s] Now at £600 collected. Don't be afraid to make offers - you might catch me in a good mood! ta EDIT: Trades. The only things on my GAS list at the moment are for a 5 string bass as a backup to my Marleaux and a good 2x12 guitar cab (If there is a good cab available then I'll probably sell the EVH 1x12 as well). Also after a Bergantino CN112 bass cab.
18. And yet I don't see them inviting electricians and caterers to work there in exchange for a free ticket.
19. £120 for a ticket. Arrive at 5am. Don't get out until late. If I did an entire day roaming magic (which I do sometimes) I'd be wanting £800 at the very least for a 12 hour shift.
20. I'd like to see a side by side demo of the Bass Whammy and the Whammy 5. I imagine the tech would be closest between them.
