Do I want to sell my Bergs and go Barefaced?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
Its worth noting that BF cabs fall into two camps tonally. The compact and midget are essentially small/light/efficient cabs that still fundamentally sound like a traditional "bass cab" i.e. some degree of coloration and upper mid emphasis. The big series OTOH are a very different proposition and are designed to act like PA cabs (i.e. minimal coloration and flat frequency response) with an extended low end. Its the same design philosophy as ACME accugroove et-al. If youve spend decades playing through traditional bass cabs, and setting your amp/bass to sound the way you like, then hearing the same bass/amp through such a clean flat cab is going to be either a revelation or a shock. As a previous poster said what you hear though this sort of cab is going to be much closer to what the audience hears out front when the bass is through the PA.
That's very interesting. I wasn't aware of that. I would guess then that I like my bass sound to be coloured by the cab. So the question is - Can starting from scratch on the Preamp & EQ settings still give me the sound I want with a flat response cab? -

Well, I appear to have sold my Sonus so I may well be in a position to do some proper comparisons. Anyone with a BF close to Northampton? -

I'm selling one of my Bergantino HD112 cabs. (not the amps or pedal in the pic, just 1 of the cabs) Specs cut n paste: Model HD112 specifications:

 •1 x 12" cast frame woofer w/ 80oz. magnet, vented pole piece
 •high intelligibility 1" tweeter
 •power handling - 350 watts rms
•custom phase - coherent crossover with tweeter level control
•Precision tuned 100% Baltic Birch cabinet
 •frequency response: 40hz - 15khz
 •sensitivity: 97db • anechoic: 2.83v/1m
 •2 x 1/4" and 2 x neutrik connectors
 •impedance: 8 ohms
 •dimensions: 16"H x 18"W x 15"D
 •40cm x 47cm x 38cm
 •weight: 44lbs/20Kgs
It is in great - really as new - condition and has only been gigged with a school orchestra at volume levels suitable for woodwind instruments! Collection from Northants is preferred as I don't think I have the box anymore (although it might be in the shed). They buyer can try both cabs and see which one they want. The official Bergantino cover (RRP at a silly £60) is also included in the £450.00 asking price. thanks

Do I want to sell my Bergs and go Barefaced?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
Clearly I'm going to have to try one, and a Berg CN112. I definitely want to get the weight down from my current cabs so I will be selling 1 at a time, as I need something to play though and the wife has a massive sense of humour failure on new cab delivery day if a cab hasn't already left the building. I'll get an advert and pictures up later on. They have been gigged..... with an acoustic orchestra! Not very loud at all! -
Who's got a ..... (Warning, new Barefaced content possibly)
fretmeister replied to Mudpup's topic in Amps and Cabs
Big Baby 2 on order. If all goes well, could basically be a one cab solution for just about any situation for me. We'll see how it pans out.
What's the expected waiting time? I quite fancy one of them. -

Anyone near Northampton with a BF cab that I could try? I'll bring the chips! -
Status have a 32 inch option on their headless basses.
If it helps, I'll buy one of your HDs if you do decide to sell
Mmmmm. I say, Mmmmm. -
I have a pair of Berg HD112 cabs. They sound great, but they are quite heavy for a 1x12, and in the places I'm playing at the moment there is a lot of carrying up and down stairs. Both the Super Compact and the Big Baby 2 appeal to me. I would need 2 cabs for my split rig, but I could cope with a single cab for a while. Or do I just stop pissing about with a split rig and get a Super Twin and have done with it? The wheels may well offset the weight nicely. At the moment I'm using a tone a bit like Kyle Eastwood's on 'Rue Perdue' - from about 40 seconds in. https://myspace.com/kyleeastwood/music/song/rue-perdue-49496642-53813828 and his 'Song for you' https://myspace.com/kyleeastwood/music/song/song-for-you-49496641-53256382 Deep and chewy! Someone make my mind up for me please!!

Cool! I like Swamp Ash. Nice and resonant and light. I hate to think how much Fred's R8 cost though!

Their site is still up. I wonder if they'll close and the people there start a new company. King Double Bass died, but their phoenix Blast Cult seems to be doing well.
