1. I always forget there is another bass forum!
2. I have a pair of Berg HD112 cabs They are very good, but still on the heavy side for a 1x12, and I often have to carry them in places where wheels are not an option. Lots of stairs and narrow walkways. So I'm thinking about changing them for the new lightweight CN112. Has anyone played both and compared them? The HD sounds very good indeed and if the CN is effectively the same with 16lb less per cab then I will go for it when I have some more cash. But if they are very different sounding then I'll have to think of something else. Any thoughts from CN112 users?
3. I knew I had an old photo...
4. Scallops - yes. Just the top 5 frets. Very comfy actually. I play a lot in the upper register playing keyboard and cello parts as needed. Not much need for string bending though! Karl - Way ahead of you. I already have 2 heads and 2 cabs! 2 Genz heads (Shuttle 9.2 and a Streamliner 900) and a pair of Berg HD112. I'll be setting up for split use this weekend. I've done that before with a modded Status. Looking forward to getting back to it!
5. I've now got the action as I wanted. Super low, no buzz. It's brilliant! In 25 odd years of playing I've only had one other brand new bass so this is a real treat!
6. Thomann are awesome. They'll look after you properly.
7. I have a 900 and it's brilliant. Wonderful amp, and very versatile.
8. Keep an eye on the Japanese ebay shops and Ishibashi. They seem to have way more 32 scale Fenders than over here.
9. You could assemble a Warmoth. They now have 32 scale necks. - But it looks like they only do a J body at the moment. Might be worth an email though. http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/ShortScale/
10. Excellent! That is a lot of bass for the money! I like the white too!
11. Courtesy of the good people (Molan) at Bass Gear! I had a Mk1 Attitude many years ago and I really missed it. So after the longest ever pleading with the wife I now have a shiny new Attitude 3. I am told by Molan that none other than Dave Swift thought this was a beast of a bass, and he's right. The neck is really big (bigger than the Mk1) but with a comfy profile but by the use of strange magick the neck dive from the Mk1 has been much reduced to almost none. I may still swap the tuners for some super-light Hipshots though. That might save as much as 1/2 pound. Doesn't sound like a lot - but out at the end of the neck that makes a big difference! It's currently strung with Dunlops as Bass Gear don't do my favoured D'Addarios. But I still might commit some sort of crime and put flat Chromes on it! Can you imagine that neck pickup then??? It will get it's first proper appearance at orchestra rehearsal on 21st Sept.
12. Streamliner 900 here. My cabs are a bit heavy - Berg HD112. When I get more money I'll change them for the CN112 models.
13. Every instrument I've owned has been gigged. From my very first Hohner Arbor Series MXJ guitar to my Hyperbass. In the current stable I have other Zons, Marleaux, Status, Fender and (wait for it...) a Daisy Rock Butterfly bass! I see no point in having them and not playing them. And as I'm one of the much derided lawyers who are the ones apparently hoovering up high end basses for investments - all I can say is Bollocks. I've never met a colleague who has bought a new instrument as an investment. Ever. HIgh end new instruments are not investments. They are merely luxury goods like Ferrari's and Saville Row suits. It's up to the potential buyer to decide how they want to spend the money they have earned. If a person wants a luxury item and can afford it, then that is a matter for them alone. If they can afford it, but don't like it then not buying it is a matter for them alone. If a person can't afford it but desires to own it there seems to be 2 general reactions - to either make it an aspirational item, worthy of saving up and sacrificing other non-essential spending or they can bitch about how crap the item is, or how crap those who do have the means to buy it are. Most amusingly, an awful lot of the people bitching have never been in the same room with a Fodera / Ritter / whatever. Let alone played one.
14. Generally I prefer 4 strings, but if it was for a 1 bass fits all - then my Marleaux Consat Custom 5. It's just brilliant. Does the back pickup burp really well, and super deep and clear from the neck. Great low B too - and I like light strings.
15. There is a superb Mike Lull P bass in the classifieds right now. Buy that.
16. The Tech 21 VTBass-DI is very good. Got mine last week and its firmly bolted to my board now.
17. I once had a 5000W rig. Powered by a Yamaha P5000S power amp. The cabs wouldn't have survived if I'd turned it up though.
18. Id love the Larry sig! What a great bass!
19. It depends on the songs. Skynryd had 3 and it worked brilliantly. Wishbone Ash, Iron Maiden etc can't be done with 1. The Police would sound odd with 2. As it happens when I play guitar I prefer to be in a 2 guitar band. It gives many more compositional options. As long as both players know what they are doing and have different but complimentary sounds and styles it works brilliantly.
20. [s]MXR Compressor sold pending the usual.[/s] EDIT: MXR available again.
