1. A full sized Harp? Blimey. They are so heavy that I had assumed when people moved house they just left it there with the bath and the oven!!
2.
I'm confused. If you want a double bass sound, wouldn't it make sense to buy a double bass? I like the sound of some electric uprights, because they sound like electric uprights and it's a nice sound. But if that's not what you want, don't buy one? I have thought about getting an EUB myself (I've played DB for about 5 years now) but the only ones I would want to own are the Yamahas.
Have you tried getting a proper DB in an average car with 2 kids and the driver? I'm currently playing in a local music trust group / orchestra that my kids attend. 2 kids, a clarinet, a sax, my amp & EUB is all I can fit in the car! I got my EUB purely because I don't have room for a DB, in the house or in the car.
3. I have a new one to learn. At xmas I'll be doing my first performance with a bow! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSAd3NpDi6Q
4. I've never bought from Prymaxe. I am now looking at their site. My wallet is quivering in fear.
5. Wow! Great if customs don't flag it on the way in, but if they do.. Currently $209 = £127 + 20% vat = £152 + Parcelforce admin of about £10 = £162 + whatever the shipping is + 4.4% import. So no real USA saving at the mo if it gets caught by customs.
6. Thomann are doing them for £171 with free shipping. That's about £50 under most UK shops. http://www.thomann.de/gb/tech_21_sansamp_character_vt_bass_di.htm
7. PM incoming
8. Sometimes you can learn as much from the wrong band as the right band. Half of the music learning process is working out what doesn't work for you. But you wouldn't know without trying. And no matter what, it gets you used to playing with other people. So unless the personalities in the band are so bad that you want to kill them all with a chainsaw dipped in alien blood, stick with it and get some valuable experience. To misquote Marilyn Manson "I'm not in love but I'll f*** you 'till someone better comes along." Playing / performing with others sorts out your playing priorities faster than any other method.
9.
fretmeister said: Zoom Hyper Lead on the left Zoom Power Drive (Klon, ahem) on the right. This is very good as a clean / slightly sparkly preamp on a passive bass. Both brilliant pedals in full working order. Some scratches s expected for their age. £80 each or £175 delivered for the pair in the UK ta
10. Snip. Gone. Withdrawn etc.
11. I think so - crap little pic but You can see the strings at the bottom of the right pic, and the cut outs in the rear metal plate higher up - that's where they anchor if you use full DB strings. It's only the metal cover plate so I can't see why it wouldn't be on the others as well.
12. Nope. Once the signal hits the muff you can't add clean to it! Bass - LS2 - Muff in a loop - Out from LS2 to amp But IIRC (been a while since I used one) the LS2 automatically shorts the unused loop. So stick your muff in 1 loop and then you don't need to connect the other loop to itself for the clean signal. Just make sure the LS2 is set to A and B loop on at the same time. That will cut your cables down by 1 anyway!
13. Far from me to disagree with StingrayPete there - the NS basses will take proper DB strings - there is 2 sets of anchor points on the back of the instrument - one for the shorter NS Design ones, and then another set for proper DB strings In fact I currently have Spiro Weichs on it! and when I get round to swapping again I have Innovations to try too. Proper strings and raising the action makes a lot of tonal difference.
14. The stock NS strings don't sound anything like a DB. They are far too bright. Mark at Bass Direct told me he's trying to convince NS to equip all NS models with the traditional string set instead. They are much better that the stock contemporary strings.
15. I put a set on my Sandberg TM5 and saved more than half a pound too. Made such a difference on the balance. The tuners on my old P are heavy so I'll be getting a set for that bass too when I have some funds.
16. Full review please!
17. The YouTube demos sound very good. Tempted myself now!
18. I have a different problem with the E - I play a 5 so when I play the E with as much of my finger as possible, and my finger comes to rest against the low B I get a big thuddy impact sound (from the B string)via the piezo pickup. But the annoying thing, is that sometimes I don't and it just sounds perfect. But I have no idea what I'm doing differently. I like the thud sometimes, but I'd like to choose then it happens!
19. It has arrived! Seems nicely made. I now have the super pain in the arse of doing the rosin for the first time.
20. Another vote for a good 2x12. Bergantino would be my choice, but there are great choices these days.
21. Looks nice. I have a Vertigo and it's great but it is a big chunky thing.
22. GHS Pressurewounds. Lovely strings.
23. I almost had that, but bills arrived. I have a Consat Custom already, Marleaux are the best basses around IMHO.
24. Doh! Good point. I'm using it with a NXT5 loaded with Spiros. Trying to get as close as possible to a nice woody pizz sound. Say from 3mins 20 in this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUz-WqUw4Ic
