I like the B 15 settings best, thick and rounded. Superb for Motown stuff.

Attenuators are very amp specific. You'll have to try out different models. The THD is a good bit of kit but might be completely wrong for the amp. Same as the also awesome Weber Mass attenuators.

Start with the example settings in the manual and tweak from there. Run it directly into the FX RETURN on your amp, leaving the amp preamp section out of the signal path. It's great!

I've been investigating this issue for my own use. I have discovered that the Demeter Minnie VTBP head has completely passive cooling - no fans [url="http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product/demeter-minnie-vtbp-m-800d-amp/"]http://www.bassgear....tbp-m-800d-amp/[/url] The poweramp alone does have a fan with an off switch for recording - not sure if that would be a good idea to leave off for an entire gig though.

Does the Demeter Minnie 800D power amp have a fan? Photos are not clear, but you could add that to a simple preamp like a Tech21 pedal.

Lots of space in classical music - fan noise really kills the mood.

Obbm is using his Prodigy with a Berg CN212 with great success. Might be worth sending him a message. I'm a huge fan of Berg cabs too. Beautifully built and sound excellent.

I seem to remember the Genz Benz Shuttle 3 not having a fan - it was 300W. They 600W and 900W versions do have fans. That being said, I play in similar environments as the OP and most of the time I use my little Roland Bass Cube 30. No fan, no transformer hum, no hiss. It's a brilliant little thing.

That's the one! I've also got Clef Tutor (free version) which is a note based quiz against the clock. That keeps the brain going when I'm on the train.

I played 4 strings for the first 20 odd years of bass playing, mainly because it took me that long to find a 5 string I actually liked! These days I mainly play with an orchestra (and smaller ensembles) so having the low B allows me to read straight from the bass clef on the piano score. That low B is really important on many pieces. Over the last 3 years or so I've played so much on a 5 that anything else feels very odd now!
