I've seen these played in videos, ive always wondered why with that many you wouldn't devise a system so the detuners are at the bridge.

On the full version there are ALSO detuners at the bridge.

  2. Fortunately I have the old Hal Leonard produced Michael Manring instructional DVD. Complete with tab book, and full tuning descriptions for the 4 solo pieces from the album Thonk, so at least I have something to work on.

What I have to realise is that it's not really a bass, and it's not a guitar either. It just happens to be a stringed instrument that can do 4 trombone slides at the same time with the tuning heads! (help me!!!!!!!!)

Bets will be taken for how long it takes me to stick a set of 40-100 on it and just use it as a fretless!

  3. It's wonderful! Sounds amazing.

I've been mucking about with the detuners a bit, tuning the bass in standard interval, but having the tuners adjust to make an open chord rather than just a tone drop.

I do need to buy a theory book though!

The build quality is frighteningly good. Other basses might be as well built, but I cannot imagine anything being built better.

    Zon Hyperbass.

3 octave neck, 4 detuners, 3way EQ. Currently in piccolo tuning.

rare as rocking horse sh*t. And I love it! Sounds beautiful!

Just got it from GremlinAndy so he can get a 6 string version!

  5. Just bought a Zon Hyperbass from Andy. Super smooth transaction and a nice chat about life the universe and everything over a coffee half way down the M1.

The bass is mindblowing and in amazing condition.

    Good to meet you!

  6. So why the hell would you risk that on such an expensive instrument?

The risks go deeper than just customs.

If you tell customs it's worth say £2500, you pay the import and VAT on that sum... then it gets damaged. Your insurer will use your import valuation to limit their payout to £2500 - because you wouldn't have lied to customs would you??? When you complain they let you know that they will happily repair / replace as soon as you come clean to customs first.

So to get it fixed you bite the bullet and confess to customs. They take the money and let you off with a caution.

Then the insurers tell you the bass was the subject of a fraud attempt and they refuse to pay anything at all.

    It's not worth it.

Yes, bad idea. What you're proposing is tax evasion. It's the kind of thing we all get so riled about when big corporations or rich fat cats do it. Who's side are you on?

    Big Plus One.

If the OP doesn't pay his taxes it puts all of our taxes up just a little bit.

  8. If you pay £500 for a bass and insure it for £1000 then you still only get to claim £500 back if it is destroyed / damaged - because that is what you lost.

Insurance is not there to make a profit on, it is to put you back into the same financial position as you were before the item went missing / damaged etc.

To claim more than your actual loss is called Insurance Fraud.
