Some clean amps I like, some dirty amps I like.

I suspect there's some confusion of terminology in this thread, where some people are thinking of clean as un-distorted and others (myself included) are thinking of it as un-coloured - not saying either are correct, but it might account for why people are saying Markbass are really clean, when - IME - they colour the sound remarkably.

I was thinking clean = no drive / clipping at all.
If I want Uncoloured - then the bass goes DI into the desk. -
The crap spouted about laminates amuses me greatly.
"Got to be solid" etc.
Of course there are different quality laminates ranging from B&Q.... to Alembic. Nowt wrong with laminate at all. -
I really must visit that shop at some point!!
-
It shall be mine!!
-
I'll have the Fuzz please.
paypal ok? -
I've gone a bit mad with the G.A.S lately so I need to off load some things.
So, for sale is this lovely ESP Eclipse in sunburst. The previous owner put a set of Bareknuckle Crawlers in it and there is a push / pull coil split for both pickups on a tone control knob. It has locking tunes and comes with the official hardcase.
It is in excellent condition - would pass for brand new.
I'll do some better pics in a day or two, but at the moment...

I'm looking for £850 ovno.
Collection is preferred, Northants area, but if you want it delivered then I'm happy to pack it up carefully so you can pick the courier you want.

A 120w bulb is actually more bright than two 60w bulbs as it is more efficient in the visible spectrum.
But you measure that in lumens and not the watt rating. -
What are the new Trace heads like? As clean as the originals?
-
I'd vote LM3 or Genz Shuttle
The Hartke LH500 is very clean too, especially if your bass hasn't got a hot signal. -
I must be slacking.
How much power do you need? All of it. Every bit. and then a bit more.
my Rig of Doom V2 was 2600W. It was awesome. I've giving serious thought to re-building it with a pair of Barefaced Big Ones. -
Great bargain!
One of the best heads about. -
Don't be obsessed with 4x10 cabs.
The days of 1x15 are flubby / 4x10s are punchy have long gone. -
I have a TM4 and it's brilliant. Build is probably the best I've seen on a wood neck bass. Sounds bang on too.
-
Maple.
The answer is always maple, unless the body is sunburst and there is a tortie 'plate. -
Come to think of it - the Marshall VBC412 (a bass specific 4x12) would be a great match for that amp. And it's a 4ohm cab so you'd get all 300W
-
Depends on the cab. Some are much more sensitive than others.
-
300W minimum in my humble opinion. Headroom is necessary.
-
Sounds like selling scare tactics.
UK Voltage is a nominal 230V (as is Europe) but in reality can shift from 220 to almost 250. -
Another vote for Line 6. I have a headset vocal system for magic shows and I have used also used it in band situations where the stage has been so tiny there was no room for a mic stand.
Although using a headset for magic is cool and necessary to keep the hands free.... using one at a band gig (when I'm not a drummer) is slightly embarrassing and makes me think of Five Star! -
Stick it on the forum at MusicRadar as well.
Always popular over there.
(Dunno why you are selling to be honest - they are amazing little things!) -
I became the singer by default.
Singer quit, we kept rehearsing for a year while we looked for someone else. I sang at rehearsals as I wrote most of the lyrics anyway.
Then the other guys booked a gig and pointed out that I had been learning how to do it for a year and it was time to get in front of people. I enjoyed it greatly and never looked back. -
I have only recently got a proper Fender - a MIJ P 62 re-issue. I've had a bunch of 'similar' basses but always with other features that seemed to get in the way.
I really like it. It sounds like some of my favourite records (Steve Harris is probably why I started bass), it's resonant, reasonably light and with a set of big arse Roto flats on it, it sounds amazing. -
Just did a trade with Pete - he got my USA Peavey Wolfgang Archtop and a handful of dosh, and I am now the proud owner of a Marleaux Consat.
Other than the war crime of stringing a 5 string bass E-C the whole thing was perfect, and even the meeting point at Draycote Water was great. (I don't get out much!)
Good to meet you.
Cleanest sounding amp?

This. But amp-wise, as previously mentioned, the Hartke LHs give clarity (and volume) for very little cash.

Agreed - I have one, and I really like it for that reason.
