  1. Just buy the official one for £8 and then you'll have peace of mind. https://www.thomann.de/gb/voodoo_lab_voltage_doubler_adapter_ppay.htm https://www.gak.co.uk/en/voodoo-labs-pedal-power-cable-21mm-barrel-voltage-doubler-plug-output-10cm/100980
  2. There's a second plug and socket next to the gain options. If you swap that one it changes the starting curve of the EQ for a slight boost to treble and bass and a small mid cut. Definitely improves the stock Barts a little, but still not as good as changing the barts for something worth having.
  3. Just don't leave it plugged in when you are not going to be playing for a few days or more. That's just wasting the battery then.
  4. I had a long rehearsal on Saturday so I thought I would experiment with the Lionel and the new pickup in it. I did the first run through with Fender 9050L flats, and the second with DR Hi-beam rounds that were already cut and stretched. I really like the flats but I have to say, in such a large ensemble, the rounds gave me more options and tonal variety just using the bass tone knob. I'm going to stick with those for this band. I've still got my other shortie with La Bella flats for proper thumpy stuff.
  5. The installed pickups don’t look like EMG, they look like MEC which are stock ones for that bass.
  6. The Demeter 800D (and other letters I can’t remember) is very clean, but not in a sterile way like the Tecamp / Eich stuff. Its an amazing amplifier.
  7. I am just amazed that a 500W amp with a Big Twin isn’t enough. If it isn’t, then the PA should be doing the work instead. I hope the OP has good ear protection.
  8. That is such a fascinating concept. Next time I'm at Bass Direct I'll have to try one out for curiosity. They've been around for a few years so clearly they sell in sufficient numbers, and if that means people with hand injuries or conditions can keep playing, then that is fantastic. There's not enough knowledge about alternative design instruments for players who have different abilities. I saw a thing on a flute maker who was making instruments for people with limited arm strength / movement. It was a challenge to get the right tone and range for a flute but using a far different shape.
  9. I find it easy to play guitar and sing, but bass and singing is more difficult as the rhythm of the guitar part often fits the vocal but the bass part often doesn’t. The best tip I ever got was to hum the vocal line while playing. It seems to lower the brain load as you are just making noises in time rather than remembering words as well. Then when that is right, add the odd word in the right place, then a few more and build it up u til you complete the line. Definitely works for me. I’d suggest picking some really simple songs for home practice to learn the skill before jumping into the stuff you might actually perform.
  10. My Lionel got the pickup change I wanted to do. Aguilar AG 4P-60. 1960s recreation. The stock pickup was closer to a SD QP to my ears - too much bass and treble and not enough mids for a P. This solves that for me. Also installed a @KiOgon solderless loom to go with it to complete the vintage tone package. Sounds more pleasing to my ears now. There was nothing at all wrong with the stock pickup, it was just not the sound I was looking for. Aguilars are a bit spendy, but I've got one in another bass and I really like it, so I didn't want to end up buying something else and then still wanting the Aggy and end up spending more. I have a rehearsal on Saturday to give it a proper run.
  11. Back when I was playing guitar in a band I started by just doing BV and then our singer quit. I was writing almost all of the stuff anyway so at rehearsals I was singing it. After 6 months of not being able to find a singer the guys suggested we did a small gig with me singing the leads. So we did a short set at a party where there was also a DJ and other stuff and I really enjoyed it. I still find it much easier to sing and play guitar rather than bass, but I'm working on the latter. Shortscale and a plectrum seems to really help me for that. My cheap Jim Deacon P is perfect - it has really narrow string spacing that really suits me for plec use.
  12. Something I wrote a long time ago as a vocal tune, but decided to do an instrumental version for fun.
  13. Neck dive is a thing with just about every bass that has a short upper horn. The best way to help it is to swap the heavy old fashioned tuners for Hipshot Ultralites. That can save between 1/3 and 1/2 a pound and when that weight saving is at the end of a neck the balance is altered massively. But the short upper horn is the culprit really. If you swap the tuners, spend the money on the USA ones and not the licensed ones. The USA ones are lighter. Either way you'll have to be happy with some more holes in the headstock rear.
  14. One of mine is a tiny bit over 7lb. The other is about 8lb They vary quite a bit so if you buy new, ask the shop to weigh it first if weight is an issue for you (as it is for me).
  15. Without a doubt: https://www.youtube.com/@howtobbqright
  16. I know - I fixed it that way at home. But that would have taken even longer than a mid song string change to sort out properly. Far better to swap to a different bass.
  17. I suspect he's told his wife that as promised he has listed them for sale and he hopes to get a decent offer for them. Now he's sitting back confident they will never sale. I've never done that of course. Oh no. 🤫 Anyway - there is no point worrying about it. He can set whatever price he wants. The buyers will decide if it sells or not.
  18. There's a dedicated thread on medium scales. The Ibanez Mezzo PJ is 38mm - they are great (I have 2) https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/srmd200_1p_01.html
