It's a very clever system. I saw a great vid about the guitar version and setting it up differently for recording rhythm and lead parts. When set for rhythm bent notes did not change the pitch at all. It negated the effect of inadvertent bends or pressing too hard on the board. None of that caused the pitch to go sharp. Then set it differently to allow for bending for solos and vibrato etc, but still maintaining rock solid tuning even with string slippage from bending. It's witchcraft!

Ultralite tuners are smaller in general. But as for the post size - get a ruler and measure it.

Anyone got a Barefaced x10 series with the new tweeter option?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've got a One10T on order to go with my existing One10. Should be another couple of weeks. I've always been happy with the treble on the One10 (it goes higher than the Super Twin) but I thought I'd get the T version just to increase options. In the past when I've had a cab with a tweeter I've always turned them off. I may well still do that most of the time unless I'm in a Marcus Miller sort of mood. -
Ideas about fancy material bass necks?
fretmeister replied to Jeffrey Z's topic in General Discussion
I've never built a bitsa so I have no real idea how much bodies and necks cost in the first place. -
I'd buy my youngest a new laptop to replace her aging pile of crap.

Short scale EB Cobalt Flats?
fretmeister replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Accessories and Misc
As far as I know they are "Coming Soon" so the full details aren't yet available. I was excited... and then realised they would be the cobalt ones. I don't like them - I like the Group series flats. -

Get yourself a Lionel to go with it. Then you’ll have your P sound as well.

I was playing Metallica guitar riffs. I really don’t understand why I can do that while singing but cannot play a repetitive Duck Dunn part while singing. I need a neurologist to explain it to me!

I’ve fronted bands while playing guitar and I find that easy, but for some reason I find it very hard to do it on bass, at least when playing with fingers. I think it is because the guitar part is usually more rhythmically similar to the vocal. Or maybe it’s just because when I started playing guitar I was a teenager and really wanted to be James Hetfield and just put the work in! If I play bass with a plectrum I find it a lot easier even for the same bass part. But with fingers… it’s like people who just cannot Pat their own head while rubbing their tummy. There’s a wiring problem somewhere! But whichever way works for you, the hands and bass have to be automatic. If you have to think about them you’ll not have the bandwidth to concentrate on the vocal. To quote Billy Sheehan “if you think, you stink!” Its a lot easier for songs you write yourself as you automatically write things that are easier for you personally.

None of it.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
fretmeister replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
I recently realised I only have 1 long scale bass left. I have 2 shorties, two 4 string Mediums. and a 5 string medium. I'm now wondering about selling the two 4 string mediums to fund another shorty. I don't have a Jazz type shorty yet! This is becoming an addiction! Does anyone know if SX / Jim Deacon did a shorty Jazz type? I have one of the P types and I really like it. -

My ‘Only 1 Bass for 3 Months’ Challenge
fretmeister replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
Mine is black and is only 7.3lb. What strings are you using on it? I've got Dunlop medium scale flats at the moment and they have a great old sound but sometimes I want something a little more modern. -
Is there exposed core flatwound strings on this planet
fretmeister replied to kuetsum's topic in Accessories and Misc
I can't think of any exposed core ones, but the La Bella Deep Talking Bass flats are tapered on the B string of a 5 string set. The other strings are not tapered though.- 1 reply

My ‘Only 1 Bass for 3 Months’ Challenge
fretmeister replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
I've got a Mezzo 5 (and two 4) and they are great basses. Far better than their modest new price suggests. Even if I swap 99% to short scale I will be keeping the 5 string. It's just too good. -

I have hope it is just transference. He’ll have choice paralysis about the 40 different amps he’ll buy instead! -
My ‘Only 1 Bass for 3 Months’ Challenge
fretmeister replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
I think it counts. I would never gig without a backup. I have 2 shorties, one has flats and the other has rounds and I just pick the one that suits best for the material. My restriction is about scale length rather than a specific bass. If I get through the summer term of rehearsals and gigs without missing a long scale then I might be brave enough to start selling. -
My ‘Only 1 Bass for 3 Months’ Challenge
fretmeister replied to Chiliwailer's topic in General Discussion
Not as extreme, but I’m going to only play shorties for a few months to see if I want to sell off the long and medium scale stuff.
