P vs. J vs. Ray4 vs. Yamaha BB comparison/poll
fretmeister replied to Vanheusen77's topic in Bass Guitars
I liked the ray best. That surprised me as I’ve been mainly playing P types for a while. I liked the PJ more than the jazz. The jazz just sounded a bit boring. -
Did anyone here actually buy a EBMM Joe Dart?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
Nah! I still want one! But with kids at university I just can’t do it at the moment. I am tempted to mod one of my less used basses to put a passive MM type pickup in it though. -
Spare. I’ll soundcheck with both to make sure all is well. If at the check one is sounding a bit better in the room for some reason, then I’ll use that. But I won’t swap during a show unless something goes wrong with my first choice.

High Fade. Love a bit of good funk.

It's normal for Boss Pedals. No - you cannot change it.

The little Mooer Ensemble King sounds bang on to my ears, with the advantage of having a level control. I have an old CE-2 from 1989 and the Mooer and they can be dialled in the same.

What's the fan noise like? [/Stuck record]

The Meatball designer is currently working with ThorpyFX and on their 'to-do' list is a new filter. Hopefully sometime next year. Thorpy's build quality is like I've never seen! Not really a surprise from a former bomb disposal tech!

I've been watching demos. The slightly gainy / drivey / farty sort of warmth is lovely. Hopefully the price will stay low until after Xmas and then I shall treat myself.

Damn you....

Headphones for practice and general listening at home.
fretmeister replied to Ramsay777's topic in General Discussion
For wired cans I have Beyerdynamic DT770 closed back and Senn HD599 SE open backs depending on what I need. Both good, but I do have a large noggin and the Senns are more comfortable. I use them with my Helix when recording. If I’m just noodling then I have the Boss Waza Air headphone amp thing. Amazing bit of kit. I’ve played far more since getting them. Expensive, and I was a bit nervous about buying them, but they’ve turned out to be a great buy. Boss needs to update the app though, it’s clunky. -
As said, Nordy will make anything you like as a custom order.

I still want one. Might sell off a bass to get the funds.

Nah. he’s ace.

Yeah - I get the feeling anyone turning up to that gig with a Kemper would be found at the bottom of a river weighed down by it!
-
I did my last gig. Funnily enough as I no longer gave a crap I think I played far better than I have for at least a year! It's not like Count Basie tunes are easy either, I usually have to concentrate quite a lot. Strange how the brain works sometimes.
-
Could be. It sounds really stable for an analogue pedal though. I've had the MXR and I could never get it that stable, even with a compressor in front of it!

I've been watching the North Sea Jazz show: He seems to be playing quite high on the bass but with very low notes. I have found some old (like 5 years old) rig videos when he's using octave pedals etc, but this tone doesn't really sound like an octave pedal. So I'm wondering if he's using something else? P basses are usually crap when tuned BEAD or even lower as the pickup placement is just not great for that purpose. Any ideas?

Barefaced Three10 Teaser: Anybody Know More?
fretmeister replied to Obrienp's topic in Amps and Cabs
Recently - yes. Just like everything else has. -
I just did this on my Sandberg. It’s subtle, but it’s definitely a nice change.
