    So I could order the parts and then have to find some time to assemble it and then be paranoid that I’ve done it wrong and I’ll cause a fire or something, or I could just order a ready made one? That’s a tough choice! 😂

    I don’t even do my own pickup swaps! you know instructions on a soldering iron that say “don’t hold the hot end”? That’s my fault!

    I swapped over to EBS flat cables. They seem to have the smallest plugs on them. Got me a few extra inches over the full board. Regarding the power supply - have you checked the current draw of the pedals you are going to use? You need to make sure that each pedal can draw what it needs.

    Some of them are. The early ones were A/B and then they swapped to D.

    I have dozens of compressors. The Cali76, DG SS, Empress etc etc. I like the Boss BC-1X better than any of them. It's magical. I'd just like to not need to take it with me at all!

    Some of the newer amps now have a Limiter control knob on them. So at least it is now adjustable.

    The little Zoom multi effect would be great fun. I wish there was something like that when I was a kid.

    I used to do the whole twin amp thing. Started with a pair of Marshall VBC412 cabs. One fed with an Ashdown head for the lows and the other with a Hartke HA3500 for the highs and FX / drive. Then I went with this. Ampeg SVP-BSP Billy Sheehan preamp and a Line 6 Bass Pod. They both had clean blends so I would actually combine 4 sounds and heavily EQ the drives to make them as EQ specific as I could. Then into a Yamaha P5000S stereo power amp. Each preamp got it's own side of the power amp and each side went into it's own cab. I sounded amazing and weighed about as much as a planet. Now for even higher volumes (when I need them) I use a single Barefaced Super Twin and some pedals that have clean blends built in. Sometimes a Helix.

    I want it but I've already got a Super Twin and if I bought it I'd end up moving into Mr Black Coffee's living room after I got thrown out by my missus. She's an unfair woman. I've only got 1 stack and 1 bass in the living room. Ok, the rest of my kit is cluttering up the main bedroom but after all, that is where the magic happens...🤪

    Go to .135 B string IF it will intonate properly. But the main problem is the P pickup itself. By its very nature- with the Bass side forward- it is flubby. Add a bridge J or even just reversing the P so the bass side is closer to the bridge will make a world of difference. There is a reason why 5 string Ps aren’t as popular and it’s the inherent flub.

    they are a cheap bass, I’ve seen some on sale for under £100. I bought it as a sort of test to see if I liked shortscales before spending money on a better bass. I’ve played it loads at home but yesterday was the first time I’ve played it with my band. It was a bit neck heavy and dived a bit with the stock tuners and I had the hipshots in my parts drawer so that was an easy upgrade. The stock pickup sounded fine but the pole pieces stuck out quite a lot and got in the way. The Aguilar is my favourite P pickup so I bought that to go in. The poles are flush with the top. And I forgot to mention, when I got it one of the pots was a bit crap. Hardly any taper, more of an on/off. So there’s a new loom from the legend who is Kiogon of this parish. It was such fun to play yesterday. Sounded fantastic and some of the stretches between notes were a lot easier! I have to make sure I’m not making any rash / premature decisions but I am wondering if my long scale 4 strings will get any use now. I’ll give it 6 months or so and then see if I’m going to keep them. 5 strings are different. I’d like to try a shortie 5 just to see if a good low B would work with the right string and pickups, but there’s not many available that I can see. This could get expensive. Sandberg will make any of their basses as a shortie and as a Superlight for a small extra fee!

    A Jim Deacon shortscale precision. Upgraded with hipshot ultralights and an Aguilar AG4P pickup.

    I know that. I’m thinking for live use. Lots of modest priced PA don’t do E0 very well either.

    Are there any bass cabs that go down to 20hz? I can’t think of any.

    Used my shortie in anger for the first time with my jazz band at rehearsal this morning. Just took the bass, Ashdown RM800 and a BF One10. Mainly because I was too lazy to take my board and the big cab! I was really pleased with it. Deep and smooth sound. Very Duck Dunn. La Bella DTF of course. We did a couple of oldies, “Basin Street Blues” and “Song for San Miguel” with some great walking parts and the bass just came through perfectly. This bass has really narrow string spacing at the bridge so it’s a bit tight for me and there was a few dodgy notes! user error though… when I restrung the bass I forgot to redo the intonation so it was a bit horrible further up the neck! It’s way out! I’ll sort that tomorrow.

    Kalium Strings will make any length. As will Newtone.

    My Superlight TT5 is only 6lb 11oz. (Superlight 5s are 8lb / 3.6kg or under. Mine is very light indeed.) Zero neck dive. String spacing is adjustable. 18mm to 19.5mm
