If you sit down to play then stands or ipads are fine. If you stand up and perform, then they are not and they look awful. Learn the parts.

Don't the saddles usually have to be moved backwards for a larger gauge? Not forward?

I think you'll struggle with flatwounds. Ideally something with a clean blend to keep the low end in your signal, and then a nasty almost fuzzy top end. Did you have a budget in mind - there's options from £25 Behringers through to £350+ Darkglass and Tech21 units.

Do the short scales not have the compensated nut then?

Do you need a tweeter? If not the Barefaced Super Twin would do the job. I've been very pleased with mine. Overall though - it does sound like the guitarist needs to turn down a bit too.

The Stingray neck actually got a little wider at the nut with the specials! I thought the lightweight new models would be perfect for me... but the neck is now too wide for my comfort.

I agree. I'm not a fan of bridge humbuckers in most cases. Moved forward a bit like a Stingray - lovely. But no further back.

No doubt they can sound bloody awful if the time isn't put in to make it work properly!

The good ones will take a signal from the guitar and make sure the vocal harmony fits. But that does mean the guitarist will have to play some fully voiced chords and not just ambiguous power chords. Then it’s a lot rehearsal and settings tweaks to make sure it sounds subtle and realistic.

The new Ambient Reverb is great. It’s not a normal reverb, it’s just something to give a very low level room reflection effect. Like a non reverb amp in a room. Make some dry sounding patches sound more realistic and alive.

The J Retro you have should get you at least halfway there already.

If the "necessity" of musical skill was limited to only what we individually like to play then everything beyond Grade 3 or 4 on any instrument would be unnecessary. And that is clearly dilettantism, and frankly, bollocks.

The configurator doesn’t have all options. Just the most common ones. But when you order you can do what like. but get a quote with and without. Sometimes it’s cheaper to do a pickup swap yourself. My incoming Lionel Superlight will have the stock pickup which will be a bit too modern for me, but I have an Aguilar 60s wind waiting already. I’ll try the stock one first though, just in case.

Ibanez show 12 fret and 22/24 widths on their site, as well as thickness. It would be good if others did that too. BTW - AFAIK all Sandberg 5 strings are 45mm nut.
