  1. No. They use paulownia for the bodies and Norwegian maple for the necks and their hardware is extremely light.
  2. Am I the only one hanging a short scale? 😭
  3. D'addario US informed me they make those strings only for being fitted to new Ibanez and not for the general public. I've moved on to Dunlop flats on my 5 string and I'm very happy with them.
  4. Boss BC-1X made me sell my other expensive compressors. It just works at every setting. It’s witchcraft.
  5. It’s not that good. You’ve forgotten about the exchange rate. Which sucks at the moment. You can find stingrays for under a grand here, just not the newer specials. But £1200 would get you a nice one and wouldn’t have to worry about shipping or not being able to send it back / trying it out first etc. Stick a wanted ad in the classifieds and see what you get offered.
  6. you’ve misunderstood. Bass + shipping gives a total. Then add 20% vat to that. Then add import as well at about 4%. So the 25% rough total is on top of the shipping AND the bass total. The percentage stays the same. Vat is added to any item that hasn’t been in the UK before. This is why many “bargains” from the US aren’t really bargains when the maths are properly worked out. $140 shipping from the US is cheap. And probably not insured!
  7. Bass cost plus shipping, then add 20% vat and then import which is about 4% I think. Basically take the bass and the shipping and add 25% and you’ll be close enough. The vat applies to the shipping as well. Do not undervalue it as that is a criminal offence that can lead to confiscation and destruction of the bass, and if it gets damages any shipping insurance will only pay out on the declared value.
  8. I might have to get one anyway. After all, I have a large board too!
  9. Form factor is too big for me, but that is a great sounding pedal. It was really good to see how he sets it up too.
  10. Has anyone seen a Evo V in the flesh yet? I'm curious to know if they've actually sold any, particularly with the price drop that happened only about 2 weeks after launch.
  11. Just tried some demos on YT. Sounds great but the sideways form factor won't work on my Nano board. Definitely one to think about if I ever got back to a bigger board.
  12. Schecter used to sell a bass in Cello tuning. Must have been 20 years ago. The only downside I can see is that she won’t ever be able to borrow a bass at a gig.
  13. When I ordered my Lionel shorty I went for Superlight woods and I said the same thing. Less dense wood = less wood = more money? You havin' a laugh?
  14. At the other end of the scale... John Myung not giving a crap!
  15. I've have a Helix for 5 years. I have no fear of digital! I've got a couple of other Source Audio pedals and really enjoy them so I'm thinking a lot about the Aftershock as well.
  16. Lovely!! I have one on order with Sandberg - with Super Light specs. It might even be under 6lb! I have another 8 months to wait for it though. It's going very slowly!
  17. I have no preference really. Quite happy to play unplugged for sight reading practice or for low level play-a-long. I enjoy using an amp for loud play-a-longs but that's more for fun than practice.
  18. Just remembered - Sandberg will build their 4 and 5 strings at 32 inch scale. It's a custom order of course, but available. The upcharge is the same as going for a 35 inch scale.
