1. Someone's going to be very happy - BBs rule, and that one looks lovely.
2. Thanks for the help, folks. Chromes duly ordered... ..Roscoe porn to follow
3. Thanks for the fast response - so they're ECB81, EBC82 etc - the ones without a letter (S, M, SL) at the end. http://store.daddario.com/category/145851/Chromes_Flat_Wound The bass is a Roscoe Century Standard 4
4. Right, so I got my lovely new fretless :-) but it has roundwounds on it. :-( Having tried TI Flats and Fender 9050s on other basses, I think it's time I gave Chromes a try. But for a "standard" 34" scale, do I need "medium" or "long" scale? The D'Addario website gives lots of info about tensions but I couldn't see info about scale (possibly due to blindness, stupidity or both). Help!?
5.

Loving your .gif!
6. I bought a couple of leather straps at £14 each and a BGM subscription, on the day, but more than that... I fell in love with the Roscoe fretless 4 (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtopic=114899&view=findpost&p=1161034) and have just taken the plunge on the phone to Mark at BD. Look out for some retrospective fundraising in the marketplace. (Is there a section for mothers?) I guess I was lucky in that I went on Sunday and got to hear it! It comes with rounds, so I expect my next purchase will be some more flats, even though the diamondwood board can apparently bear up to rounds... cue perennial "which flat" discussion... I currently have basses with TI Flats and Fender 9050, so I guess it's time to try the D'Addario Chromes...
7.
The maddest thing is using the Post Office for anything larger than a bridge.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12607065 So it was you!
8. Roksak Deluxe for me. Enough padding, comfy straps and plenty of pockets. Around £35 iirc.
9.
It was Chris May himself that christened them "Tanglewaters". That's what he called them when he brought them up to Moffat for the Feb Bass Bash.
I suppose that's less risqué than walking onstage with "Overwood".
10.
It's a Marmite finish, I guess...!
Sure is, and I'm on the wrong side of it's Marmiticity ...which is a pity, as I played one of these at the Bass Show yesterday and loved it. A USA for the price of a Tribute - someone (someone glammer that I) is going to get a very good deal!
11. Ooh, a good day, not quite the slapfest that Saturday reportedly was. Tried lots of new things, quite a few on basis of why-do-so-many-BCers-love these: EBMM Stingray - tried a 2EQ H and a 3EQ H. Nice but didn't blow me away. Ibanez Gary Willis - I guess the synthetic fingerboard is a bit Marmite: I love Marmite, but I didn't love this. Status - didn't get on with the all-graphite Stealth, but was quite taken with the S2. Hmm... G&L JB-2 (Tribute) - soooo tempting. These had been on want-try list for a while, and it didn't disappoint. In fact it was mostly the fact that I it didn't come with a case (and I've have to carry it home in a box) stopped me snapping it up there and then. Yamaha - BB1024 was nice (I thought I was primarily looking for a passive 4-string) but then surprised myself by being quite taken with the TRB active 5-string. Fender Precision Deluxe MIA (Bass Merchant) - being a P-basser with an inkling for a bridge pup, I expected a lot from this but it didn't do it for me. Although being opposite the this-one-doesn't-go-below-eleven Ampeg stand didn't help. Roscoe fretless (Bass Direct) - the big hit of the show. One of those love-at-first-pluck basses. I put it down, wandered around for an hour or so then came back ready to punish the plastic. Only the failure of the BD card machine saved me from my impulsiveness, so now I get to sleep on it. So all in all a success: I knew I wanted a tasty fretless, and found one. I didn't know quite what I wanted for a fretted, and came away with a better idea. And met some lovely people along the way, including a couple of random BC-ers.
12. Hm, are you hoping they'll mate? BTW, what's the shipping cost? I was looking at something yesterday with a quote of $150 - ough!

This thread is giving me gas! What about the 1024/5/x? Worth the extra over the 424/5/x?
14. I'll be there tomorrow - is there an earplug vendor there?
Yeah, it's a custom. And not one you can buy, either. On the other hand, Glenn doesn't use it much (see my earlier post) so he might take an offer for it...
He certainly doesn't' use it much in that clip! Bizarre - sit down with the instrument plugged in and talk about the sound instead of just playing it!?!
16.
. . . the bass comes with a HERFANNY case.
17. What a load of cobblers.
18. I do like the look of the JB2...
19. Very nice.... shame about the extra string
20. I'll be there on Sunday. I'm the guy who recently shaved off his facial hair, and, possibly by then, his armpit hair too.
21. I'd certainly like to get my hands on one. Love the classic P but like a funky poke down by the bridge now and then. :-) Being a bit of a luddite I like that it can be run in passive mode, and it could be just the platform for me to gradually explore active-ness. The Jazz neck on the MIM is a problem for me though, and the MIA (with its Precision neck) is bit on the ££££ side!
22. Re. Ashdown compressor thingy: he offered it for sale, I bought it, he sent it, I received it... That's all OK then!
23.
You could try Ian Hunters "All American Alien Boy"
Wow - I never knew about that one. That's some line-up! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_American_Alien_Boy
24. Hm, so I think I need - at least - a solid-body, a semi, and a nice acoustic. And a 12-string. The 12s currently on my Strat are EB "not even slinky" with a plain .024 G, which I love in a weird sort of way.

Another BB fan here. Currently have a BB350F fretless, love it. I tried a white BB414 a couple of months ago and it was hard to walk away from it - one of the best sub-£500 basses I've played. I'm a big fan of passive P/J, but for active you might like the 614 - I think they're £500&something new so would fit nicely in your price range S/H.
