A very painful topic... ...Wal Pro IIE ...Wal Custom (Mk I) fretless because I was never going to play them again, was I?

So the Overground is %^&*ed but the District Line from Earls Court is OK.
A zillion violin, viola, cello and double bass players can't all be geniuses.
+1 Memories of beginner's violin lessons - things get better with listening practise. Fretless doesn't fit my current band, but I still rotate the fretless into my home practice schedule. If I can play it on fretless with my eyes closed, I know I've "got" it. Practising fretless will improve your playing overall, as you'll be listening more. A very good ex-piano teacher of mine recommended learning to play everything blind - I'd say even more so on bass - who wants to be looking down all the time, whether at frets or lines?

Dare I talk about guitar strings here? The backstory is that I'm playing again after a l-o-n-g layoff blah blah blah. I've hooked up with a band and am now starting to write again: cue digging out the g**t*r and making some rudimentary demos (demoes?). Last year I dipped my toe into jazz guitar and put a set of 12s on my Strat. A strange combination, maybe, but that was before I [s]was corrupted by[/s] joined BC - if I was a member then, I would have just given in to the gas and bought a nice semi-acoustic! The relics of my previous collection are the aforementioned Strat (a regular 3-single coil floating-bridge jobby, and rather tasty) and an 80s Japanese Strat with twin humbuckers and locking trem, which I don't see me ever playing again. So... trade the JapStrat for a semi with 12s, and put 10s or 11s on the regular Strat? I know I don't need two electric guitars, but you know how it is... (I know, the "correct" answer is probably to trade the JapStrat for another bass.) Most of this is just gassing aloud, but I'm interested in your thoughts on what gauge cheese-wire for those of us used to big manly bass strings. (On bass I'm a regular 45s kind of guy. Style-wise, all over the place, so no help there I'm afraid.) Cheers! Richard

Fender Aerodyne Classic Precision Bass Special 2006
I am looking to exchange my 75 re-issue jazz for a Lakland Duck Dunn, as I need Precision pick up/jazz neck. These critters have got me thinking though.# Are they passive fellas? Cheers, Karl.
Passive P/J rocks! It's the only the Jazz neck that stops me drooling over this one. -
OMG it's soon - how time flies. Looking like Sunday for me - I love Laurence Cottle's work with Claire Martin.
There was a guy on here looking for one of these recently - "Aerodyne Precision" is his username - not sure whether he is still looking - it may be worth shooting off a PM to him.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...odyne+precision (I also love the look of it, but etc. etc!) -
Well, it's working for me on internet explorer. It'll be interesting to see if anyone else is having problems with Firefox?
Chrome is fine...
I have just been told that both a fretless and 5'er will be with us in April. Both, I shall be getting
Argh! Just when I'd convinced myself that that I had too many (or even enough) basses. I'm just back from a rehearsal when I put my RV4 through my new MXR DI+ and totally loving it. The action on the E string is just a bit low, and the rattle was sounding great! So now I'm going to bring the other strings down to meet it... and I only have one fretless at the moment, which needs a bit of work, so I'll need another one for when it goes into the hospital, won't I?

Interesting... I see it recommends 2Gb of RAM, and presumably that's on top of everything else. Is there a reference somewhere with recommended minimum machine specs, e.g. if I want to record X tracks at sample rate Y, I need a machine with this spec ABC...
Watched the doc. last night and listening to live & dangerous now Was interesting to hear Brian Robertson, who by his own admission was out of it for a lot of the time, state categorically that he didn't overdub any parts Mind you I'm not sure I care. It's still one of the great albums.
Watched it yesterday too. I laughed at that part - I thought Visconti made a more credible witness than Robbo!

Sean sold me an MXR DI pedal, good stuff and no problems!

Bad Monkey looks like just the thing to try for the OP - especially at around £40 delivered new. For me, I have the "tube tone" on the TC head which is pretty good. But I use an old combo which I keep at the guitarist's house for rehearsing, and it would be nice to have everything tickety-boo before it hits the amp. Sansamp BDDI looks good - but I also love the clean tone of the MXR with the "color" button down, so I think the MXR has a place on my board regardless - and getting a BDDI (giving the option to DI from the BDDI, the MXR or the TC!) as well would be OTT, wouldn't it?
MXR M80+ DI is the best distortion box i've ever used and i'm looking forward too affording one!
I just got one these - via BC marketplace - and it is very fuzzy! With the gain at zero there's what I would call quite a lot of distortion, so I'm looking for something else for that "slight bloom" of overdrive. (He said, bandying around another totally subjective term...)
What if I put up my Overwater Progress III Deluxe* up in the 'For Sale' thread for £60 + P&P. Does that make it sh!t because it's cheap? *Or [insert high-end, expensive, custom bass here]
Try it and see! I for one have never played an Overwater, so I'll brush up my prejudices before commentong on it.

It's a bit like learning to play with two hands on a piano - initially daunting but comes with practice.
