It melts with heat, so a soldering iron to the nut, does the job
Are you Jack Bauer?

No problems at all, proceed with confidence!

Thanks folks - I'm off to make myself an under-string radius gauge using this http://www.pickguardian.com/pickguardian/I...us%20Gauges.pdf, a Pritt stick, an old pizza box and some sellotape.

One for the modders who are swapping necks and may have a gauge handy... it looks pretty big to me.

She arrived today, and how has the Fender 9050Ls on - 45/60/80/100. And very nice they are too. Slightly higher tension than the stock strings, so I dropped the action a bit, but I don't think I need to touch the truss rod. Not too fat to sit in the nut either. (From previous posts, it's no surprise that the ball-ends are too large for through-body stringing, but that's not a problem.)

Well Parcelforce got it to me on their third attempt, and I must say I'm knocked out. There are a couple of flaws in the finish on the back of the body, but other than that, I'm a happy bunny. It's "navy blue" - which we now know means a lovely translucent dark turquoise - with the maple board. None of the setup problems described by others - action and intonation are pretty good out of the box. Mine has a "QC HS 1" sticker on the back if that's of interest. I even find the much-maligned strings sounding OK, if a little light, so I'll probably go ahead and swap them for the flats I have waiting. I'm most impressed with the tuning machines and the pots - both very smooth, and the kobs are nice and heavy. No noise from the pups, either. Even the gigbag, while not being padded, has double-shoulder straps and an interior strap to secure the top of the neck. Do I sound impressed? My Fender is still in for its service/MOT so no A/B yet, but Susie is feeling good (neck has a similar chunkiness to the 70s Fender) and sounding good.
People planning drive-by's of the various shops can take Woodbridge off the list: no guitars here, just girly dresses. Unless of course ...
Just waiting now for the first pic of a (male) BC-er playing their RP-1 in a girly dress...

I just got a set of Fender 9050s, "Light" - 45, 60, 80, 100. Just waiting for the Ryder to arrive to try them out!
Damn, wish you hadn't told me this, I still need a body for a fretless neck. I must resist.
Resistance is futile. Meanwhile, mine remains c/o Parcelforce who are shunting around south-east London, hopefully arriving soon at a post office near me.
The band is based around St Neots so they would need to be able to travel to rehearsals there and gigs all around Cambs, Beds, Northants & Herts. We are following up Google and Bing leads but they haven't been very posative so far
University music department notice board?

Loving the tone - is that going through some compression and a bit of overdrive?
-
I'm still waiting for mine, and following all this talk of modding with interest. But since they're now collectors' items, I might keep it all original - I'm not as young as I used to be and need to start thinking about investing for my old age

You got it. I want it.
Great player. She plays and sings on "Anomie and Bonhomie" by Scritti Politti. This is a very interesting record and the opening track opens with her bass; even the first note has such a great tone!
Now THAT is a ridiculously under-appreciated album.
If you do buy one, you'd be nuts to get this one that Rich is selling (if it's still around, that is).
Nuts not to, surely? Go for it... I was knocked out by a 414 I tried, and only this weekend could be seen drooling over a 424 just like the one in that link.
She's great....too funky for her own good. Plantation Lullabies and Peace Beyond Passion are great albums.
+1, or rather +2 for those. They keep coming back to my CD tray and I'm saving the others to discover later.

I have a Ryder on the way and am also planning to "flat" it. I love the TI Jazz Flats on my fretless, but haven't tried them, or any other flats, on a fretted. So I'm following this thread with interest... Do you know what gauge strings the Ryder ships with? I would expect the "standard" 45s. If the nut's too tight you can always widen it - but the opposite is not true, so I'm wary of fitting say 50s and then finding they don't suit me.
