Is anyone else here really glad that YouTube didn't exist when you were young?
+1 There are still some photos whose negatives I need to track down and destroy, but thankfully most of those Boots C120s disintegrated some time ago.... -
Kids playing a song badly... reminds me of when I was 16 or 17 and trying to play Metallica songs after about 9 months of picking a guitar up. At least we didn't video any of our efforts which seems to be the main problem here. This classic, however, is on a different level because they're playing it in public: https://www.youtube....h?v=FjeMDvCdrtc EDIT: OK, now I'm looking for crap covers on YouTube... https://www.youtube....h?v=giRb50JKook
That Final Countdown is pretty poor until the vocals come in, then it goes to a whole new level... -
On a general point, can anyone clear up the copyright/public domain laws. I recall something about fifty years unless you pay lawyers to renew?
It used to be fifty years after the end of the year(*) of death of the composer, recently increased to seventy years. * So if you your composer grandfather is looking iffy around Christmas, do what you can to get him to hold on until New Year's Day, then you get an extra year of royalties :-)

I suspect this would never had happened were it not for the Blurred Lines suit. Note that in both cases, it's the estate of a deceased composer who's bringing the suit, not the allegedly plagiarised themselves. OK, Marvin Gaye never heard Blurred Lines, but I'm pretty sure that Randy California had heard Stairway to Heaven, and recently Tom Petty reached an amicable arranged with Sam Smith over Won't Back Down/Stand By Me and downplayed the whole thing in interviews. So my conclusion is that it's the estates that are being greedy. The artists themselves are generally more laid-back about - perhaps because they know of cases where they themselves have been, ahem, inspired!
I can't see many people who have just had throat cancer treatment buying a bass.
He's buying it for his cousin, whose name appears to be asap....
Why not, if they've paid for it? Maybe I misunderstood.
They pay by PayPal, "agent" collects the bass, then they tell PayPal that they never got the bass and get a refund.

I used to have one of those when I played in a quasi art rock venture. I had my core sound with the EQ bypassed, then used it to boost sone high mids on passages where the bass was "featured".
I think your best bet is to go in with samples (reference tracks) of what you want the bass to sound like and ask him what would work best to get something similar. Then as he has helped you get that sound he is more likely to get it on the mix down.
This! I'm getting more into mixing, and reference, reference, reference is the mantra I hear again and again.
What's this "SoundCloud App" you are talking about? Are you not accessing SoundCloud through your normal web browser?
I find the web version *fairly* straightforward - I'm not such a fan of the iOS app.
I'm ... way more fluid and consistent if I use just 2
And there's your answer: two is conventional, and fluidity and consistency are much sought after! I'd say stick with two until you hit a point when you wonder, would this passage work better if I used three fingers?
I'm sure someone will have mentioned it before and I'm equally sure that they're great instrumunts but I find the word 'buzz' in the Pentabuzz name very off putting. It's like calling it the Neckbow or the Badlycutnut.
My thoughts exactly! Pentabuzz - all five strings are too low!

+1 for Yamaha. Also, especially considering spacing, Ibanez SR series are excellent value.
I've been quite pleased with my Ibanez Portamento. I'd say it was the best fretless 5 on the market for under £1000. The only thing I'd change is the rosewood board....I like ebony more.
I've played one of these - the SRF705? - and it is indeed a marvellous beast. I've currently got a GWB35 which is not bowling me over... and a 4-string Roscoe Century Standard, which I love to bits, so I imagine the 5-string version is similarly wonderful.

The band sounds better than the recording I'd recommend SoundCloud as the place for sharing uploads.
I thought the jumping and bouncing around off each other was pogoing while moshing was more collective headbanging in the same direction as each other.
Punks pogo, metallers mosh.

On the values by which this world makes its heroes then the best violinist ever was Nero, because he had the most Press and his fire gimmick was simply the best. (Peter Hammill) -
Maybe ZZ Top were not in specsavers because they prefer cheap sunglasses .
But if they've got one of those second-pair-free deals on, then sunglasses don't get any cheaper...
