When I go to see my next big gig ...
ras52 replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
By the time a band gets popular enough for tickets to be expensive/fast selling they are no longer playing the kind of music I want to see/hear.
In my youth, I used to think the reverse: since the obscure bands that I liked were so self-evidently awesome, it was only a matter of time before the general public caught up. Since those guys (and girls) are now mostly sexagenarians, I might be persuaded that perhaps they won't be toppling One Direction etc. in the affections of today's teens. -
... but, then again, he may, if the price is right.
Maybe, but often a seller will lure you in with the headline price, only to find out that there's an unreasonable charge for P&P slapped on top. So this may not turn out the bargain it seems at first sight...

Oh no, I just read that he "May not ship to United Kingdom".

Nothing wrong with that, I'm sure Bono & co. are worth every penny of that £3k. -
In terms of sheer jaw-dropping delight, for me it has to the Peter Hammill concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall which turned into an surprise Van der Graaf Generator reunion. It was just a regular Peter Hammill gig until the encore, when PH introduced VdGG keyboardist Hugh Banton to play piano on the VdGG song Still Life. Wonderful! Then, in the fast section, out onto the stage walks VdGG sax player David Jackson honking away on double saxes! Even more wonderful! Then I was thinking, it can't get any better than this, as there's no drum kit for Guy Evans to play if he were here. But then it did get better, as Guy walked out rattling a tambourine. It didn't matter that they were playing a song describing a dystopian future, the QEH was full of glee!

"the price may appear slightly high to some folks but it is right on the money, I have just sold a pair of effects send-return cables for $4500 to give you a price guide,"

I had one just a couple of weeks ago. I won tickets to see the Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Prudential Bluesfest, of whom I'd never heard. When I found out that were "blues/rock" my heart sank... probably having heard too many versions of Mustang Sally et al at too many jam nights. But I struck lucky, and when the second number started in 7/4 I knew that this was something more that plodding 12-bars. In fact I don't think they played a single 12-bar song. I bought their current album the next day and it's the first thing in a while for which I've burnt a CD for the car. Thank you, Prudential!

Fender are doing a Special Edition Tele, HH with coil taps and no scratch plate. Very nice... Looks like a G&L ASAT 😊

Is it only me, or were these two songs "separated at birth"? They're even in the same key!

Last night's episode of Homeland was horribly prescient, featuring a character plotting a large scale attack in Berlin. One the other hand, ITV pulled a program featuring a gunfight: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34828889
I use compression sometimes, and sometimes I don't. I use it for the a little subtle addition to tone not to take anything away. It is a quandary as to why so many big name bass players use compression. You would have thought, given they've got all their time to devote to just playing, they'd have practised enough to have exemplary technique
Maybe their technique doesn't extend to shaping the dynamic envelope of a note after the initial attack

I've gone for the CAD Audio HA4.

Thanks for the input. There are half a dozen or so active splitters on Amazon starting from around £15, so I guess it's down to which one's the prettiest

The Nation's Favourite Beatles Number One - ITV
I watched it - surprised that "Hey Jude" was the nations favourite TBH...
Well it's the one where everyone knows the words to the singalong outro... -
One for the brainy people who understand impedance, buffering etc. :-( My setup uses a modest interface with a single headphone output. When I've brought in a singer I've previously used one of these and given them my "louder" pair of headphones while used my "quieter" pair. Having mislaid the little beggar I'm now looking at replacement options. Am I right in thinking that the "loud" pair was sucking signal from the "quiet" pair, in a path-of-least-resistance way? Am I also right in thinking that I'd get the same result if I got a passive splitter like this http://www.dv247.com...tter-box--18403 and that I'd need to get an active unit like this http://www.amazon.co...dphone+splitter to be able to balance both pairs? Thanks in advance, o clever people!
