1.
What is REAL music anyway?
Music you play through RealPlayer, duh!
I'd rather watch the Voice on the beeb to be honest. Great show. Well...it's probably as much to do with the fact I've got a crush on Jessie J
You might be out of luck there...
 2.
If I didn't play in a rock band or perhaps mostly played on ballad-type tunes then I'd be happy as a fretless player as well. Best of luck to you.
Check out some stuff I played on last year: http://soundcloud.com/andagain/sets/demos-july-2011/ - rock band with token ballad-type tune, and 60% fretless :-)
 3. I thought Eclipse came after New Moon... #igmc
 4.
I'm sure you've seen them, medicocre bass players shirtless for no apparent reason!!
Blame Flea. Flea wannabes. Wannafleas?
 5.
I'm actually about to do the opposite - I'm probably getting rid of my fretless because I just cannot seem to get away from all the cliches inherent to the instrument & I'm just really bored of that sound.
Eh? IMO the cliches only surface when one thinks "it's fretless so I have to do slides etc." If you play your "fretted" repertoire on a fretless, but play it just as you would on a fretted, you may be surprised! ...and thinking of slides, I generally prefer the sound of a fretted glissando over that of a fretless portamento, so it's for the songs with slides that I switch to fretted!
 6.
"For personal reasons, the Squire [sic] bit on headstock has been grinded [sic] off" What personal reasons might those be? Insecurity? Snobbery?
Maybe his ex-girl/boyfriend was called Squire? I'm more intrigued to find out how he got hold of one that said "Squire" on the headstock!
 7. Good move. I keep pondering the "five question" and the Yammy would be near the top of my list. (Tho' I prefer the version without the "X", the one without the scratchplate.) I'm sure it will "B" great, boom boom!
 8. OK, so far we have Liam asking us to please excuse his huge c*ck, and Evil Undead's boobs-on-the-menu, who's next?
 9. I work with the drummer in this band... http://www.unclejackweb.co.uk/ who boast a repertoire of over 80 songs (including Sex on Fire).
 10. Yes he did, and no it isn't
 11. Hooky influence here, I believe:
 12.
But isn't the point about notation without fingering, that you get to work it out for yourself, and experiment with various options? That way you learn more. TAB stops you thinking!
+1, this, etc.
 13. In a word, ethos. I saw them several times in 79/80 and they were totally mesmerising. But I can't imagine a newcomer "getting" them from this distance, just as back then I didn't "get" 50's rock'n'roll. (Still don't, mostly!)
 14.
I wore Corduroy Jeans up until only a few years ago. I'd still wear them if I could remember where I got them from to replace my knackered ones. They're far more comfortable than normal Jeans and, being black, you couldn't tell they were Corduroy until you got close enough to touch them.
I'm now overcome with a strange desire to touch your trousers.

 16. "Drink beer. Smoke tabs."
 17.
Whats the deal here? if you don't like tab just ignore it. I like tab, so use I use it. Different horses for different courses I guess.
The deal is, it's hard to ignore, and the OP doesn't want to be distracted by it. He didn't start banging the "tab is evil" drum, he just wanted some advice on how to get rid of the distraction.
 18.
It may always be that one note, but if it's a B on your guitar, and you play it as an open 2nd string, it will lack the power and majesty of Mr hendrix's 14th fret on the 5th string, which will give you that lovely squealy noise you were after.
This may be true. But classical guitar notation has a cunning way around this by annotating the B with a circled "5". Of course, as my guitar, my strings, and my fingers aren't the same as Jimi's, I may find that there's another B on the board that works better for me. Alas, if I rely on tab I may not even know that it's a B, or where the other Bs might be on the board. (Or even that other Bs exist.) But this tab vs. notation has been done to death: OP's question was, how to get rid of it from a PDF. Printout, scissors and tape would be my suggestion. Ideally... and I'm sure this is technically possible... we could have an electronic publication with checkboxes allowing to show score notation, tab, or both. Get to it, software developers!
 19.
You forgot to mention that score doesn't tell you where to put your fingers on a bass It only tells you what note to play, hence you need to do some working out and it's harder to sight read.
Yet I could read your post aloud without being told when to breathe, when to open and close my mouth and what positon to put my tongue in (ooerr!)...
 20. For getting rid of tab(bies):
 21. So.... can we merge this thread and the "Oylmpic" one, and talk about bassist races?
 22.
I suspect lots of BC members are 'Guardianreadery' - I mean, bass players are supposed to be thinkers aren't they? I don't read The Guardian, but only because I don't have the time
I don't read The Guardian either, but only becoz I kant reed,
 23. Hm, it looks a bit like a Fender bass, but the pickups are wrong and body is lopsided...
 24.
Are these what are known as inversions? First inversion starts with the 3rd, second with the 5th, third with the 7th?
Spot on.
 25.
Worst: American Guitar Centre in Tonbridge. Rude and unhelpful, lovely stuff though.
I had a very odd trip there. I was the only customer in the shop and the guy just wanted to ignore me completely! I was looking at an active bass, asked him what one of the controls was for: he said "I don't know" and carried on ignoring me.
