I knew middle eastern music used 1/4 tones (thanks to a Yamaha thing that I think replaced the DX7 & I can't remember the name of it, that brought this to my attention) & it's also used in Greek music. I thought the reason behind this was one of 2 things: 1, they had poor intonation on the fretless instruments & 2, didn't tune up properly on the fretted (& non stringed instruments that had 1/4 tones was made by a crap luthier)
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=142240&hl=
You're wrong, of course. This kind of total travesty has never happened to me. Why? because every time I sit on the end of my bed and pick up my bass, I check my tuning. It's easy enough, red means out, green means in.
Hands up, it happened to me. I started playing - without checking my tuning - at 4.30 this morning, and the neighbours started banging on the wall. So it's not just bass players who notice these things.

Simple: it's got one too many strings.

Oh oh oh! I keep my RV4 at the guitarist's house for midweek rehearsals, and was looking for a fretless to keep it company. I just got a S/H Dean Slegdehammer (courtesy of BassChat marketplace) but might have held off if I'd seen this one coming. After a fair amount of tinkering, I'm really liking my RV4 now - except for the tone controls... "is it just me", or are others finding that they only seem to be of any use for about 10% of their travel?
An accidental is a note that is not in key. Say you are in the Key of G....if you see an F natural, that would be an accidental, because in that key you would normally have an F#. Or,in the key of C,any sharp or flat note written would be an accidental.
Or more strictly, a note that is not in the key signature (or corrects a prior accidental back to the scheme of the sig). So in G we have F# in the sig. If we modulated to B flat without changing the sig, we'd use accidentals to indicate the F naturals, B flats and E flats. Or consider a lot of contemporary classical music where key sigs aren't used at all, in which case every sharp or flat is an accidental.
I played a couple at the bass guitar show in London and 100% agree with machines. Really substantial feeling basses. Go for it!
+1 Some reservations as to whether the 1024 is worth the price hike over the 424... see posts passim.
^ Just like the little brother of my Century 6 (which will be up for sale very soon due to an incoming Century Signature!)… Lovely bass. The Century body shape really does does it for me! Shep
And it's a constant struggle not to order a matching fretted model to be its brother or sister!
thanks. and bump. really quite important to sell this soonish. ras52 if it's not gone by then i could be in london on Friday 1st july (on the way to montreux) so you could have a look. pretty much guaranteed like-able i reckon.
Hi jj, I was looking for a sub-£300 f/less to leave around the guitarist's house where we rehearse... I might have been tempted, but I found something in my intended price range over the weekend (Dean Sledgehammer sold by Silent Fly). So I'm gas-free (for the moment), but have a bump on me - I still think this is a bargain!

Thanks guys, I'll check those out. -
Hi, Does anyone have a recommendation for someone in the London/Southern Home Counties area to level or possibly replace a fingerboard on a fretless? Ta! Richard
