Just found a few spare copies of these 'Bassics' magazines from the late 90's ! I used to subscribe throughout the relatively short life of the publication, and I think Ron (Garant - Ed.) sent me some multiple copies for one of the Asia Music Shows (hence a few multiple copies). Issues (according to cover) MARK KING (x1 copy) 'Fall'98 Features: Mark King, Stu Hamm and a Short-scale bass shootout. £3.69 per issue (posted)

Carlsbro Rebel: 65-watt amp that uses Mos-fet technology, which was the high-tec way to go with amps in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The amp itself is an average sized combo with one 12 inch speaker. It’s covered in a particularly attractive light smoky grey colour tolex. The control panel is on the front face and comprises high and low inputs, a single clean channel gain, FX out and return inputs, overdrive (which pulls out to boost the level of drive), distortion gain (which pulls out to smooth the frequencies), pre set EQ button, bass, middle, treble, reverb, footswitch input, direct injection input (allows direct slaving without distortion) and master volume. On the rear panel there is an input for headphones and twin outputs to drive external speakers. Overall the amp is quite well equipped. It also lights up nicely when in use. It gives a good solid sound in its own right and is, overall, a good & reliable practice/gigging amp. Sounds better than most of the hybrid and other solid state amps of the same value/era. The clean channel gives a lot of headroom before breaking up. The distortion channel can be pushed loud and hard - great for metal and heavy rock. The amp reacts well to FX when played through the loop. It’s in remarkable condition for its age and seems to have had only home-use. Also includes the original Carlsbro footswitch ! sold

According to Fender (USA) ... The FMT Jazz is a classic piece of Fender craftsmanship. It features a beautiful 1/8"-thick piece of highly figured flamed maple that is bent by hand to fit the contoured body. Active electronics with 3-band EQ are teamed with Fender's new dual-coil Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups for a wide range of great sounds. A pan pot blends the pickups. It also features gold-plated hardware including a bridge that allows either string-thru or top loading. The pickguard has been omitted to allow the gorgeous wood to do its thing. Includes hardshell case. Fender American Deluxe J-Bass V FMT 5-String Features: • Premium alder body with bent figured maple top • Graphite reinforced maple neck with modern C shape and a satin polyurethane finish • Rosewood or maple fretboard (9.5" radius) • 22 medium jumbo frets • 34" scale length • 1.875" nut width • Gold-plated hardware • Deluxe gold-plated steel bridge (string-thru or top loading) • Gold-plated brass saddles • 2 dual-coil Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups • Pan pot for pickup blending • Master volume and active 3-band EQ • Lite-Bass tuners • Includes hardshell case • String spacings: 10mm (nut) 15mm (F22) 18mm (bridge) No longer available, somewhat desirable .. this is in really mint condition and plays great. ...SOLD !!...

... looks like he's now realised that he made a mistake with this one (started it at £275, then 200, then 175, then 150 .. now down to £120 obo...) :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT but he's got away with similar in the past (pity the poor guy who bought the £40 acoustic for £130, with only 20-days between auctions.) :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=150515040814 = http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270666083733

..... absolute gem here from somebody who claims to be 'russeldaviesmusic' (so he should know better!):- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT I think he managed to get every 'fact' wrong in the opening para. I've decided to keep just one fretted 4 for now and, whilst I'd like to keep this bass, it seems logical to hold-onto something more traditional (and less expensive). The bass is really as-new and the latest version of the Vigier Argege 4. Specification:- Solid body - Flamed Maple – Alder (core) – Flamed Maple top (naturally dried); varnish dried for a min. 5-weeks. Finished in a traslucent burgundy, so the figuring shows through nicely. Neck – naturally dried (3-years) maple. D-shape. Gloss finish. Nut (Teflon/Graphite + hardened zero-fret) : 40mm / 1.57”; Phenowood f/board, radius: 300mm / 11.81”, 24-fret, 33.8” scale, inlay dots. Schaller machine-tuners, mono-rail Bridge, Brass cased strap-pins (deep, threaded inserts) + Security locks. The hardware is Gold: not sure if this is an upgrade (as on the Vigier site it's all chrome) - but it does look much better against the burgundy finish!) Vigier pickups – single, twin-coil inline. Pan, Volume, 3EQ (independent) for Bass (neck) AND Treble (Bridge) pickups (stacked Bass+Bass/Mid+Mid/Treble+Treble)! GlockenKlang pre-amp. 8.3 lbs. (3.8kg.). Vigier (embossed)- Hiscox fitted hardcase. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp..._4_natural.html http://vigier.co.uk/page/fiche_produit.php...let=description http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ca5sTDlpFTI Comes with a Vigier (Hiscox) hardcase (incl.) .. not a cheap bass, but possibly something of a bargain if you're considering a new one (£2400/2760) .. reduced !! .... and Sold / Pending

Does any BC'er know anything about this ebay seller :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-CUS...=item1c187addd4 'croffets', based Gloucestershire - seems to have a number of FCS Jazz's (plus some Rickenbackers .. and some nice tyres?) at reasonable price(s) .. or am I missing something? Thanks (and apologies if this is not a new topic!).
Welnek's has a flat end on the fretboard, this one doesn't, also the grain's very different (most noticably a knot going over the neck pup on this that isn't present on Welnek's). They're pretty obviously NOT the same bass.
Hi Thom: sorry, this is becoming a bit confusing (understandably). The bass featured in the OW Gallery and this bass are different. But ... welnek made the same error when listing the bass last year. He modelled his bass on the one featured in the OW-Gallery, but forgot that he had opted for the curved/extended f/board-end. He then used the OW/Gallery photos on his BC listing. I'm sure this can be confirmed by welnek, Overwater and kevTB.
if you look at the pics of welneks listing and this bass from the OP there are clearly not the same - so I cant see how your post is helping or otherwise to the trade the OP is looking to make. Please keep it on track and accurate as per the posting rules for this forum .
The seller initally stated that it was the bass from the OW Custom Gallery - it isn't. welnek made the same error when he listed the bass last year - I know, because I talked with him (and Chris May & Laurence B.) about the bass. the specs and build date (April '09) of the two basses are identical. .. not sure how this is off-track / inaccurate (?) ... just trying to clarify that this isn't the bass from the OW site and to provide some 'provenance' on the instrument. I'm certain is IS welnek's: if it isn't then the OP should know. If it is, then interested BC'ers could also PM welnek if they have Q's re. the bass. I'm sure it wasn't intended, but the wording of the OP reads, to me, as if the seller is the original owner.
