1. Parker Fly 4 String Bass. Would love to keep this just for its unique character and light-weight, but it doesn't make sense as it's hardly ever being played. There has been some interest-in and much discussion-of this bass - 'The Parker Fly', not this particular example - but whilst it's a design you're likely to like or loathe, the quality (of construction and tone) and playability is unquestionable. The neck is ultra-slim (but ultra-stable; there is a MM style truss-rod, with key, but have never needed to use it!) and extremely quick. Ludicrously expensive when new/introduced (£2k+) and are now hard to find - particularly in this condition (mint, with the original Parker/Levys gig-bag, also mint, and with all the accompanying bits, when new). It's Ultra-lightweight at just under 7 pounds ... "with that unique body shape, the Parker Bass features Quilted Maple Top and Back - Body is 12 Layers of Acoustic Guitar Top-grade Sitka Spruce - 24 Fret Solid Mahogany Neck - 12 Layers of Mahogany-wrapped Carbon Cloth Topped w Carbon-glass Fretboard - Figured Maple Headstock - 2 Custom-wound DiMarzio Ultra Jazz Pickups - Fishman Active Piezo Pickup - Fishman Preamp/Mixer System - Gig Bag Included - Transparent Red... 2. Is this a 'Tribute' (MIA), like this (photos below) ? :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:EF:GB:1123
3. Didn't sell on ebay . Decided to BUMP this offer - had BC and local interest but no further response to PM's/emails .. so it's available again. No longer available
4. Thanks .. and, ironically, the PAIR+Bag is now ON-HOLD (pending).
5.
Mate, you are really gonna have more luck selling these as individual basses!
... you were more right than I (initally) thought: have 2-3 interested in the fretted and another almost confirmed on the FL ! ... Now, somebody must be looking for a new/padded double gig-bag ... surely (?)
6.
Mate, you are really gonna have more luck selling these as individual basses!
Thanks Solo' ... yes, I realise that might be easier but wanted to offer the pair intially: as stated, I'll happily sell each individually if there's interest. But that will mean there'll be no gig bag (or just one bass with a double gig-bag):-
7. Quite a trio of basses :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Marcus-Miller...=item2eb180bd47 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FBass-Fretless-Short...=item2eb1810259 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Overwater-6-String-F...=item2eb181476b ... is 790Mike (Wirral) a BC member or otherwise known ? Well worth checking-out if you're Wirral area and had put aside £8k for Xmas
8. BassPORN link and description:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=89598&hl= Having taken ages to complete this matched pair of Tokai J's, thought I'd share the result (and ideas, if interest) here ... although not sure if it's the right place (?). Bought the two (identical) basses online. There's no fretless version available - so then had to source tools (fret removal) and investigate what's available to create something similar to the glossy finish on the Pedulla basses, whilst avoiding the use of superglue or epoxies (which sounded a bit risky, with limited skill/s and resources). So, basically, all I've done is to remove one neck (after spending some time playing the basses and deciding which was the better fretted/fretless option), then spent hours removing frets, filling slots (decided to use filler rather than veneers, as I knew I wanted to try the poly-coating; and a more subtle red-mahogany, then the usual white-maple) and then sanding & coating the f/board. Quite pleased with the results (see photos) - as the basses feel exactly the same and the fretless has worked-out pretty well; not quite as glassy (or Perfect !) as the Pedulla boards ... but it does 'sing' and resonate well (plent of 'mwaaahh'). I've decided to use some LaBella Deep-Talkin' flats on the FL initally, just to see how the finish copes - although it is described as 'the toughest finish for all interior woodwork/furniture (heat, impact, alcohol & solvent resistant)' and was/is used for Bar top coatings (hence the alcohol reference!). They're still as per the photos - only been used at home and for occasional practice. Just played/checked them and both are fine. The Tokai body is slightly larger and more slab-like than the contoured USA/MIJ Jazz(es). But the necks are very slim/comfortable and all electrics etc. are fine. The double gig-bag is new and well padded (with a neck-support/strap) and I like the inner arrangement, in that the basses face away from each other. The instruments generally sell online for c. £270 but there's no fretless offered and the white ones aren't so common. Limited appeal (?) but might be ideal for somebody thinking of a budget Jazz and/or fretless Jazz. I'd prefer to sell together and will allow some time for this to happen, but will consider splitting (and selling the gig-bag separately) but only if confirmed buyers for the two (/3). sold (pending)
9. I had one of these up to a couple of years back :- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18479&st=0 ... agree with seeming concensus that they are excellent instruments ! I think mine sold for c. £360, if that helps ...
10. Thanks Rich/sorted ! ONLY the Status 1/2 or Flat-wounds available (curently). One set of PV's is SOLD, the other is on-hold (pending) The DR Blacks are also SOLD (pending).
11. Hi Rich ! .. the PV's are nickelwound (... and 'thermalfused' !! .. whatever that means*) and will be fine for a J' if you're OK with 45-105's (40;65;80;105). It's what PV fit on their high-end range. * ... (according to PV) ..." thermal-fusing technology ensures that the Cirrus Bass string will be bright sounding and long lasting. No dead spots, no loose winds. .. the T-F process electronically welds the core to the wrap, ensuring tightness, eliminating slippage and premature tone-loss, Tight, punchy ... with clarity and articulation... Perfection in balance, tone and feel..." Sound wonderful to me! .. but I'm only using 40-100's now.
12. B u M p + adding some slightly used strings 4-sale:- DR Black Beauty' 5's (45-130's) Extra-Life: hardly used. The only loss of 'black' is from the string post and bridge area(s). I've straightened the ends. Measure: G (103cm); D (109cm): A (114cm); E (115cm); B (109cm). £25 posted (they're £43-45 new) Status Half-Round (Flat-Wound?) 5's 45-130: these are supposed to be half-rounds (as per Status site) but look like Flats to me. Black silks. Little used. Straightened and measured: G (109cm); D (112cm); A (116cm); E (115cm); B (110cm). £11 posted (£21.50 on Status site)
13. LaBella's SOLD both .125 taper-B's SOLD. Just the PV's (2) and D'Addario .135 B left !!!
14. Nigel Crinson handmade '51 Precision - I think this is the only bass that he's done to date. His guitars have attracted a lot of interest from Fender (!) so I don't think any are currently being built (pending). Local luthier (acoustic violins originally) whose instruments have been getting a lot of positive press. I'm attaching numerous photos which I'm hoping might cover any potential questions. The pickup is a unique (I'm told) BullDog 51-P (the only bass pickup they've done?). There are bridge and pickup covers with the bass (51P type). Not sure re. the authenticity (or make) of the bridge. The only minor parts query I had was that the tuners might not be high-end or 'correct' (?). Comes with a lightweight/molded hardcase (as shown) Although it's not my type of thing, having played the bass it is VERY good: great feel/tone and low, even action. The pickup is powerful and provides a great tonal variety (with accompanying tone control and hand positioning) than I'd expected with a simple 51P set-up. The neck is great - much thinner and quicker than precisions I've played previously. The bass is also pretty light at 8.4 lbs. On-Hold/pending.... then, SOLD
15. Look ... if you buy this bass, then pretty soon (?) you'll be able to impress your friends, like this :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVcypP3Ohb4...feature=channel
16. b U m P + Drastically REduced price..... This is not Courier inclusive: can be collected, own Courier arranged or I'll arrange Courier on buyer's behalf
17. .."Also debuting in 1979 as one of the DMZ Customs was the DMZ4000 bass. At first, it sported a fatter bulbous body like the DMZ2000 and 3000 guitars. It also had a mini-pickguard in the middle of the body that held a passive split-coil Dimarzio P-bass pickup. Controls on the early version were 1 volume and 1 tone knob and face-mounted jack. This first mach was availble in black(maple body), natural(maple body) or walnut/maple combination. Later that year, the 4000 lost it's pickguard and gained an active EQ and Dimarzio Dual Coil pickup instead of the passive model used on the earlier version. It gained 2 switches, one for power and one for coil tap. Around this time, the 4000 was planned to be dropped and the DMZ4001 was to take over. The 4001 was basically the same bass as the later 4000 version but had only one coil tap switch. Both the 4000 and the 4001 initially had the fatter body but was streamlined down to the thinner-horned, sleeker body like the DMZ1000 guitar. Color options remained the same throughout the run. Necks were standard aluminum with dot inlays and, like the rest of Kramer's alum. neck basses, had the fretless or half fretless option and some with no dots. Basically, if it has a pickguard, it's a 4000 no matter what. The deciding factor of the non-pickguarded models come down to the time frame the model came out in. Although the 4000 and 4001 is listed as having active curcuity, there are several examples of non-active, non switching configurations on both models. The 4000 run was ended about the time the 4001 came out with very little overlapping time. Both models at different times sported passive and/or active electronics. For a bass from 79-81 (?) it's in pretty remarkable condition. It all looks original but not sure of this (and would appreciate any comments from those who might know these Kramers better. Instrument only, but will be very well-packaged/boxed.
18. This was - or became - something of a project bass (when I discovered that the original pickup wasn't working fully). Tried for an original but hard-to-find and opted instead for a Bartolini W4CBC - Classic series. Some stock photos/information etc. here:- http://www.matsumoku.org/models/ariaproii/bass/sb/sb.html This is an 82 model with 3-pc. Maple set-neck, 24 fretlines, padauk-red tinted body (body is maple), brass bridge and nut, rosewood 'board, 1x Vol, 1x Tone + coil-tap switch. The bass plays and sounds great but there's a distinct loss of volume when switching to SC - and the HB just sounds better anyway: not sure if this is the pickup (mis-match with Aria electronics?) or my wiring?!.. TBH, once I got it working well in HB I just didn't want to mess around any more (!). So it might be solve-able. I did think of epoxy coating the f/board .. but the rosewood and FL tone is just too nice as it is. But I did change the rather bright/fullgloss finish to a more subtle satin finish,. No major marks or dings, but a few smaller ones here and there. Comes with an OK gig-bag (hardcase might be hard/er to find as the body is big). sold
19. Update: email from Merv Spence (see link in Post #1) today. This is now chronologically not correct in terms of 'the saga' (see Items Wanted / Help - Lichfield) but as it's topical thought it best to add:- My brother in law has just called me and I just had to laugh as you must have been waiting on this to appear for weeks David which is why I did not use my own account (*1). I would rather give the bass away to charity than sell it to you man. James has contacted Ebay and we will provide them with all the information required to reinstate his account as I am away and not that bothered. I also believe you placed a couple of offers? you should have collected it when you won it (*2), as it was a great deal. *1: no longer registered *2: for 60 days the bass was not available for collection by either DHL or local BC members.
20. This is interesting - looks like a great deal of thought was put into the description before commencing the auction (?) :- The seller has revised the following item information: Date Time Revised Information 18-Oct-10 19:49:54 BST Description 18-Oct-10 19:51:52 BST Description 18-Oct-10 19:53:36 BST Description 19-Oct-10 08:30:44 BST Description 19-Oct-10 08:32:44 BST Description 19-Oct-10 08:35:37 BST Description ... anyway, I couldn't resist a speculative bid/offer: all 3 offers up-to-and-including £599 were immediately rejected, so he's set a lower limit >£600
21. This bass :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rare-Vigier-4-String...=item3f04139d75 is the same instrument/seller as in this case:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry993102 Could be a good buy if you're local (to Lichfield, not Larne!) and can inspect/try/collect and get with a decent offer. I won this bass on 1/8/10 but the seller kept my £640 (winning bid) until I managed to get it back through ebay/PP on 29/9/10. Full of excuses and BS and messed not only me about, but a couple of BC members who kindly offered to collect the bass on my behalf; seller (at that time 'parachutemusic' - No Longer Registered) was always too busy, not there, not available ....
22. .. what do those 2-digit number stickers on these Tokai's mean? ... this bass appears to have a '45' - I've seen others with IIRC 85 and 90 ?....
23. !! .. very interesting bass (and one I've not even heard of before!) - looks like a Salvador Dali take on a Marleaux with hints of Jens Ritter. Considering a trade/PM ... is there some history of the bass(es) / builder on the website?
