Bassline Incognito Custom 4 (P-J) + hardcase: £ SOLD !!!
eubassix replied to eubassix's topic in Basses For Sale
How do you always find such interesting basses!
..?! ... I always think the same about yours (!).... I suppose I've always been willing (keen, even) to try something new, different and relatively unknown: occasionally disappointing, but generally OK-to-good (or better). This one was offered as a trade - there don't seem to be many BassLine instruments in the UK, but it's an easy one to research and the photos/specs reflect the quality. A while back I also had one of their headless/slimline/slab basses (a bit like a mini-eub) -
This is a 'last-in/first-out(+trade)' bass sale for a really nice instrument which I'd love to keep (as I've not found a better 'PJ') .. but I need the funds and tend to use my 5's and other 4(s) more. Bassline Incognito Custom 4 Classic P/J bass with One Piece Maple Neck, beautiful grain / transparent honey/amber High-gloss finish. Outstanding. · One-piece quilted maple body with honey/amber finish · Maple fretboard 20 frets. 34" scale · One-piece maple neck with dark skunk stripe · Nut: 1.5" (f20:2.5"). String spacing = 10mm (nut), 16mm (f20), 19mm (bridge). 9lbs. · 2 active Seymour Duncan P- and J-PUs · Noll TCM 3-Band EQ · Black anodised Schaller Hardware and tuners · Black anodised Schaller bridge · Neutrik Security-lock 1/4" jack · Supreme Case(s) HardCase. This 'Incognito' is a highly customized model - originally built for the Frankfurt Music Show. It has a AAA selected one-piece body, AAA selected one-piece neck, non-standard black hardware, top notch Noll 3-band EQ + other options. The standard Incognito lists currently at 1750 Euro: +options resulted in a total of 2390 Euro. So, hard to find a 'better' Incognito. Links:- 1. Celinder Custom 6 :- Mahogany Body Koa Top w/matching Headstock veneer, rear and trussrod covers. Maple + Purpleheart Neck with Ebony Board 36" scale (but very comfortable - also contributes to the crisp, clean tone and well-defined 'B'. Tone is described as a previous owner as 'somewhere between and Smith and an Alembic' .. which can't be bad) Nut: 2.125"; f24: 3.25" String-spacings: 9mm (nut); 16.5mm (f24); 19mm (bridge). Weighs 11lbs. Glockenklang 3 band preamp (The original Greengrove preamp was, apparently, damaged and replaced with Aguilar, then later by the current GlockenKlang). The G-Klang Circuit diagram is included: it's one aspect of the bass which, IMHO, could be improved. There is Vol., Pan, Mid(s) and stacked Bass/Treble .. But the circuit doesn't work as clearly as I would have expected [been playing it with Bass on max, a little treble and about 55% Mids - the mid section is very powerful. Finding that with the SC's switched-in the volume is quieter in the centre position, like the old SC circuits; with HB's switched-in, the volume is quietest in the centre and gradually boosts when a single pickup is selected] Celinder (Kent Armstrong) radiused dual coil pickups (coil tap with small Fodera coil tap switch) Black hardware - original Bridge Near mint (a small nick at the headstock and upper horn) / all original other than the EQ and Bridge. Excellent build quality (as always), exceptional playability and a pretty rare find - there don't seem to be many Celinder 6's about . This is not the 'Aura' model; it is a Custom 6. TKL hardcase. This came to me via a recent (International) trade and, as I'm not much of a 6-string player and don't have the time to dedicate in progressing with this bass, is now offered for sale. I do have more photos (PM with email if required). There are a few additional comments here (in the PORN section):- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=81023
Chris told me he designed these basses because he liked Ken Smith's instruments.
Ahhh .. so, it's like one of the Ken Smith models (?) .. I thought these were more symmetrical in terms of the body shape, although the smooth lines and laminate construction is like the Smith(s). Re. the Rogue (Alembic) - I had to check the site as I couldn't recall the model/name: so, out of interest, checked the price of a Rogue 6 with Koa top etc. and case (although, of course, the Alembc is a NT not b/o bass) .... comes to $US$10950 (about £7000) !!! ... do they sell their basses at these prices, or is there a massive discount within the USA ?!!
Looks quite Overwater-like. Which is no bad thing. It is quite beautiful. Me likes
Thanks! ... I think some of the newer OW's do have a similar body-shape (?) as do a few other makes, including the old PV Rudy Sarzo / BB / TL models, with the slim, extended upper-horn: reminds me of the Alembic ROGUE (.. don't see many of those about!...) body; but the headstock is quite unique (?).....

From a(nother) recent trade deal:- Rare Celinder Custom 6 (Denmark). Mahogany Body Koa Top w/matching Headstock veneer, rear and trussrod covers. Maple + Purpleheart Neck with Ebony Board 36" scale (but very comfortable - also contributes to the crisp, clean tone and well-defined 'B'. I haven't noticed the stretch much, and the fundamentals of the E and B string are great. Tone is described as a previous owner as 'somewhere between and Smith and an Alembic' .. which can't be bad) Nut: 2.125"; f24: 3.25" String-spacings: 9mm (nut); 16.5mm (f24); 19mm (bridge). Near mint (a small nick at the headstock and upper horn) / all original other than the EQ and Bridge (original included) Excellent build quality (as always), exceptional playability and a pretty rare find - there don't seem to be many Celinder 6's about ... (although I did find one here on BC:-) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=celinder This is not the Aura model; it is a Custom 6. TKL hardcase. I'm not a 6-string player and don't have the time to dedicate in progressing with this bass, so keep a look-out for this in the Classifieds section (!!). I have managed to take a lot of photos, including the GKlang Circuit (diagram + actual internal workings)
Some additional photos here, with a BassLine PJ bass which also came to me via a trade. Might add some details/photos of this bass to the section as, whilst it's not so porn-worthy as the JDvP, it IS a very nice bass and one that's not so common in the UK. It was also, I'm assured, another Frankfurt Messe bass.
here's more on the BassLine Incognito (P/J) 4:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=79868

Don't see many of the Bassline range in the UK - here's a nice example I managed to get recently via a trade:- Bassline Incognito 4 Classic P/J bass with One Piece Maple Neck, beautiful grain / transparent honey/amber High-gloss finish. Outstanding. · One-piece quilted maple body with honey/amber finish · Maple fretboard 20 frets · One-piece maple neck with dark skunk stripe · 2 active Seymour Duncan P- and J-PUs · Noll TCM 3-Band EQ · Black anodised Schaller Hardware and tuners · Black anodised Schaller bridge · Neutrik Security-lock 1/4" jack This 'Incognito' is a highly customized model - originally built for the Frankfurt Music Show. It has a AAA selected one-piece body, AAA selected one-piece neck, non-standard black hardware, top notch Noll 3-band EQ + other options.
I actually went looking after my post and found this http://www.woodnarts.de/ EDIT: Original owner http://www.wernerwitzel.de/verkauf/jdvp_piccolo.htm ?
Yes - well researched P'B: 'wood'n'arts' is JD's site and Werner W. was the original owner of the bass (bought directly at Frankfurt Messe, I think). Unfortunately, there only appears to be an Acoustic bass currently available (from JDvP), so I guess - as with many of these individual luthiers - that most instruments will be made-to-order.

Thanks for the positive comments chaps ! ... it was a bit of a chancer, as there's little info. on JD(vP), but the photos, specs. and other details were good; and I've done this several times in the past... generally with good/pleasing results. I've had a look at the more recent work for JD v. P: he's building guitars, basses and acoustics - some of which still reflect this (early) Andy Schack/Alembic design......

J.D. V. PARIS BASS - Piccolo 4 Short Scale Got this very recently on a trade deal... and haven't been able to put it down since!! This stunning short scale bass is a masterpiece from German luthier Johannes-Dieter von Paris (based in Göttingen) - when with 'Schack' - for the Frankfurt MusikMesse (2002). It demonstrates JD's masterful combination of top quality tone woods and the sound/playability is exceptional. The electronics feature 2 toggle switches that allow to choose between single coil and humbucking mode (zero noise issues - both modes). The 3-band electronics can be modified by flicking the internal controls (see pic.) to pre select the frequency of each of the 3 tone controls. The bass knob may be preselected within 100-300Hz. The mid tone knob can be preset between 400 and 1500 Hz, and the high frequencies range from 2 to 8 KHz. This extends the tone controls to a semi-parametric 3-way on board preamplifier. Deep growling mids, extreme punch, crystal clear top and crisp slap sound are just a few of the capabilities. There is a veneer of rosewood between the beautiful flamed maple neck + GonzaloAlves fingerboard and it 's thru-body construction. The wooden trussrod cover plate is engraved with the JDvP logo. The ETS tuning fork Bridge is a 3-dimensional string-through(option) version. The playability of this bass is incredible. It is joy and effortless to play - fast neck, shorter scale and amazing fretboard Specs: · High gloss nitro' laquer finish · Thru-neck, flamed maple w/ inner rosewood veneer, 30.75" scale. · Goncalo Alvez fingerboard, 24 frets, with rosewood veneer · Body wings 2-piece sandwich maple with flamed ash · Center block 3 piece ash/rosewood · 2 x Bass Tech Soapbar Humbuckers · 18V Andy Schack Electronics with Bass, Mid, High Tone controls (pre-selectable centre frequencies) · 2 PU single coil/humbucking mode toggle switches · Black Gotoh tuners, ETS 3D Tuning Fork Bridge · Weight: 6.4 lbs / 2.78 kg (!) The condition is near mint. Only minor flaws are on the back on the electronics cover and near thru-body string holes. Just need to find a case/bag for it now (I've included one photo with a SR4 to indicate overall size)....

As pictured, I had 2 sets of these: 4x Dome KNobs and 5x Ringo Knobs. Both sets are Gold/Abalone shell. Both were fitted to basses I bought ... but I'm not keen on this 'bling' type of knob and replaced them with std. Chrome or Black or Wood. They do look striking on the right type of bass/finish. They're VERY expensive: WD sell @ £8-15 per knob (these Domes are £10ea. and the Ringos £12ea.) !! They DO come with their own allan key, but without the brass sleeves (pictured) .. which you'll need (or similar) if fitting to the 6mm split shafts (not required in the solid 1/4" shafts) Domes(4) @ £SOLD Ringos (5) @ SOLD !!!

Pedulla MVP PentaBuzz(5s) Fretless Signature String Bass ... I've been 'holding-back' on this as (1) I don't really want to sell it (.. but will always tend to favour my Kinal MK-5FL), (2) didn't realise I'd be be needing to fund a new boiler, and (3) didn't want to step on SSP's toes (as I realise he'd had some problems selling his P'Buzz - now gone!). I think most will know this bass and its merits, but am including some description from me and Pedulla re. concept & specs. etc. Pedulla MVP 5 string fretless Bass; vintage cherry(burst?), Bartolini P and J active pickups, Volume, Pan and Active Bass + treble Tone knobs, great black hardware. OHS(fitted)C. Bass is in near new shape except for a small 'ding' on the fretboard where the coating is missing. It's in an odd place (just above the 7th fretline & between the B & E strings - so it doesn't affect playing at all.. If you're in tune. I'm guessing the original owner must have knocked the 'board here and the coating has gone; as you can see, the rest of the f/board is shiny and superb) Based on the unique design that first brought M.V. Pedulla to prominence, the MVP (fretted) and Buzz (fretless) basses combine hard-hitting tone with player-friendly ergonomics, making them favorites for the stage and studio alike. Available in 4-,5-,6-, and 8-string configurations, the MVP is a bass featuring neck-through body construction for superb sustain and tone, plus a sleek and facile neck shape, ebony fingerboard, and a beautifully sculpted flame maple body. The ergonomic design includes a deep cutaway on the treble side for easy access to all 24 frets, and an extended bass-side horn that provides a perfect balance point when a strap is used. The 5-string and 6-string basses are available in both 17.5mm spacing and 19mm spacing. This one's 17.5 (adjustable, 17-18mm). A three-piece laminated maple neck passes through the entire length of the body, providing maximum focus and sustain. In addition, a double -acting truss rod and two steel stiffening bars in the neck reinforce and maintain stability. The 24-fret ebony fingerboard is inlaid with 5mm pearl dots, and its hardness resists wear and contributes to the MVP's distinctive tone and sustain. The MVP/Buzz is available with your choice of pickups: PJ (JJ, or Soapbar) PJ combination: This set-up is extremely versatile and as a result is the most commonly used pickup configuration of the MVP/Buzz series. The PJ, to our ears, is the best way to reproduce what the strings and wood of the instrument are doing acoustically. The split “P” has a tight midrange growl, and combines very well with the upper mids of “J” pickup. With a full-range, flat frequency response, the PJ set-up allows you to tailor sound through careful selection of amplifier, cabinet and EQ A durable and lustrous polyester finish protects the MVP/BUZZ from the rigors of performance and travel. The fretless version of the MVP, the Buzz series, embodies the essence of fretless bass: responsive to every nuance, able to translate the most subtle of musical expressions, yet possessing the same authoritative tonal spectrum as the MVP. Its polyester-finished fingerboard is glass-smooth, giving the Buzz it’s distinctive voice, while protecting the ebony from the rigors of performance and round wound strings. Inlaid white markers in the fingerboard guide the player, and are especially helpful to both beginners and seasoned veterans. All other features of the Buzz are identical to the fretted MVP models. Details/Options: BODYWINGS: AAA Flame maple, Optional Limited Edition 5A Flame or Quilt maple. NECK: Capillary (neck-through), 3 piece maple laminate. SCALE LENGTH: 34 inches. FINGERBOARD: Ebony . NUMBER OF FRETS: 24 inlaid white markers, (plus finish on the fretless Buzz fingerboard). INLAY: Mother of Pearl, 5mm dots. NUT: Brass. TRUSS ROD: Single rod, double-acting adjustable with two stiffening bars. WEIGHT: range from 9 to 10 lbs. HARDWARE COLOR: Black. BRIDGE: ABM 3-way adjustable machined brass with roller saddles. MACHINE HEADS: M.V. Pedulla/Gotoh. STRAP PINS: Gotoh. PICKUPS: Made for M.V. Pedulla by Bartolini: PJ. ELECTRONICS: Active, Bartolini., CONTROLS: volume, pan, bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut. CONTROL KNOBS: Anodized aluminum (black with marker). FINISH: Gloss polyester, including BUZZ fingerboard. COLOUR: Vintage Cherry (Sunburst)

"I have just cleaned the bass up with some nice polish and fingerboard cleaner..... " [OK ... HOW do you do those 'Quote' bits ??... I either get it all - including photos - or nothing!???] .... obviously, time well-spent Rob: bass looks great now! ..... great price, great bass(es) - would be an exceptional 'player' (as it is) or well-worth a refin' ! I reckon the 'Standard' model might also be something unusual .. mainly 'cos I've not seen one before. They're usually 'Custom' (the new Standard, I guess) or Signature. Anybody have an idea as to what period the 'Standard' was offered? For the price, you'd be hard pushed to find a superior fretted 5 !! -
