1. You'll be sound as long as you whack heavier strings on it, either get some DR DDTs, or a standard 5 string set and throw one of them away
2. They'll sort you out, if you bought it in the UK then you can go direct through markbass. If it's a repair job it might take a good few weeks though.. ask if you can get a courtesy head as they sometimes do this! Keep us updated
3.
Warwick Reds
sure thing Rob, pop me a PM
4. Wow crazy! I'm pretty sure you get a two year warranty with markbass stuff though. Get in touch with the retailer first and foremost
5.
"Why don't they have the bit that rocks all the way through?" "Because if they didn't have the bit that sucks, the bit that rocks wouldn't rock as much."
Best quote ever!
6. Good value! These were the first stainless steel strings I ever tried and I fell in love immediately
7. I've never been a fan of active EMGs, they make every bass they go in sound exactly the same to me! I put Seymour Duncans in one of my Peaveys and was really pleased with the sound. Kind of like a jazz bass with a bit more oomph!
8. I can't believe this hasn't sold
9.
I do think it's a bit unfair for people to rate amps based on their rehearsal room experience of them. Those amps are abused almost every day for years on end, so small wonder they sound rubbish.
Very fair comment, I just finished a rehearsal putting my Markbass LMT800 through an Ampeg 810 and it was so muddy sounding I had to turn the treble up to max just to get any kind of tone. Low mids sounded OK but you lost any kind of depth if you played anything below C... Last time I used an Ampeg 810 it sounded really nice though!
10. Update time! So I got my LMT800 back. they replaced the faulty preamp PCB. Took nearly two months which really annoyed me, but at least it's back and working as it should! Being without it for a while has worked out to be a positive though... I have gigged it a grand total of zero times but I have rehearsed it once. I just prefer the Peavey so much! I can't really put my finger on it... it sounds bigger, fuller, but without losing that top end aggressive sound. I've only ever used amps with a solid state power section before... Is this that "all valve warmth" that people talk about?
11. I've only bought from Thomann once. And it was a B-stock. And it had a faulty preamp PCB. And it took nearly 2 months to get repaired! Not really anybody's fault, and they did cover the costs as it came with a 3 year warranty. Plus I paid about £100 less than I'd seen it anywhere else so I shouldn't complain too much, it just really annoyed me! It's had the part replaced now anyways and works perfectly
12. Quiet music damages my hearing more, cause I have to keep turning it up!
13. Just get a peavey cab, they barely cost anything and sound a lot clearer than that Ampeg junk I like Ampeg 810s but nothing else sounds right to me!
14. These are bloody nice basses, and that's a good price! Might be good to let people know of you're willing to post or if it's collection only, and where you're based
15. I love my Scorpios, but I'm putting Entwistle neodymium pickups in to make them even louder and more aggressive in the mids. The SD pickups are good but scoop the mids a little too much for me, but I understand most people like that sound for slap. I would recommend trying different strings before modding the bass though, it's the easiest and often cheapest way of drastically altering the sound. Stainless steel strings give you a nice bright twangy sound if that's what you're after! Personal recommendations would be D'Addario Prosteel, Elites Stadium Series, and Dunlop Super Bright steels. All very nice sounding and around £15 a pack
16. Definitely avoid! A surprising amount of preparation is involve in getting the box size right for the speakers so that they sound and resonate the way they should. This has just been chopped into two different sized boxes and is almost guaranteed to sound like crap. expensive craps at that!
17. Dunlop do go above and beyond. I complained about an E string breaking once and they sent me two full sets as a gesture of good will. Very surprising and far too nice of them! I also have some Dunlop converse style shoes that I bought for £7 about a year ago and they've so far outlived the real ones I bought threefold. Mental!
18. Great review, sounds like a lovely bass.. wonder if anyone will be mad that you didn't play any slap
19. I dont see what's so funny. That sticker on the neck plate is super legit.
20.
Shouldn't you ask a Mod ...
I've been sat here for the last 5 minutes trying to come up with a witty response to this... Monday morning hangovers are the worst!
21. Very interested Would like to know how this compares with MB basic stuff like the LM series amps!
22. Recommended settings are always for the average player... there is no such thing! I would say my action is very low for the style I play, but it's a good few millimetres at the 12th fret! I get a lot of fretbuzz but I like that extra snarl it gives me... however that's quite irrelevant to the thread!
23. This is true, but playing like a clumsy oaf gives its own sound which I have never been able to get any other way!
24. I get good results with the Aguilar TLC. Doesn't add any aggression but it certainly works for me!
25. I get a similar thing when I play P/J basses where the pole pieces stick out from the pickups... Lowering them helps! Id rather that than raise the action as that makes the tone inconsistent the further up the neck you go. I'm also going to experiment with a thumpinator because my suspicion is that the string hitting the pickups and causing insane low end noise causes the majority of the problems... Issue is I have to wait 3 weeks for my birthday til I'm allowed it!
