1. Showy players like Cliff Burton got me into it... then the more I learnt about the role of the instrument, and discovering incredible bass tones, the more I knew I had made the only choice for me!
2. Funnily enough, I think that my playing sounds cleaner at lower volumes.. but in the mix it needs to be loud!!! Might ve something to do with my approach and view on modern metal bass tone though... I like it to sound aggressive and noisy, to counter how tight and restrictive the rest of the band are.
3. I hate it enough when lazy sound engineers want me to plug into their behringer ultra di before my amp, sucking the life out of my tone, and then making sure the bass is totally inaudible FOH. This would definitely make me think twice before buying the guy a beer before stage time!
4. Wow man, you get through some nice gear. I love the wood on that neck!
5.
Peavey T40 in natural or black... I hate being skint
Just sell every other bass you own, it will be a worthy sacrifice! You can't buy mine though
6. I've found Roto and Warwick Reds to be very coarse too... Warwick EMP feel and sound a little nicer, but they're extremely expensive, and I found they dont last any longer than uncoated strings. Forgot to mention another nice brand of steel... Elites Stadium Series!
7. it took me 6 years to discover the wonders of stainless steel. D'Addario and Dunlop make excellent quality steel strings at a more than fair price. Favourites for me though are Elixirs, tone is practically the same but it stays fresh for months/years rather than weeks!!
8.
"Strung with top four strings from a 5 string bass for a deeper sound"
Actually a lot of people class the B string as the top string... I think it sounds so wrong though!
9.
Flippin' eck Chris, is that a new MB head?
Nope, snapped up a ridiculous deal on eBay for a Peavey Classic 400.. it's got 14 valves in it!
10.
Any news yet Chris?
Hey Pete, got an email early last week saying they had received it and will be starting the service process right away. I was told to wait 3-4 weeks so I've not heard any further as of yet. I'm Feeling much better about it all now that I have a "backup" 400w all tube head
11. You shouldn't even sell this, it's amazing!
12. Woah!!! I am so lucky I am skint and have two of these already, ridiculous bargain!
13. Interesting setup. I bet it's capable of some very good tones if the electronics are up to scratch!! Definitely worth a punt as a project bass at the very least!
14. Coated strings eliminate it a little bit too
15. Markbass 210 combos go on here between 500 and 600, couldn't recommend anything better!
16.
Hehehe bet it keeps them nice and toasty too!
Haha I did read online that they might get a bit warm, so the first thing I did when I got it home was to remove the wooden front panel and just have the grill there For better air flow.. looks cooler too!! I've got two weeks until it gets gigged for the first time which will give me a chance to clean it... (You won't believe how many cobwebs were inside!!) Its going to look great when I get it all shiny. It's just a shame that half of the pots and knobs have been changed, I'd have liked them to be all original.
17. It works! It's an absolute beast and was worth the 350 mile round trip (and the slipped disc!) PS. Yes I do put drinks on my amps, go f*** yourself
18.
South of France, they had trouble every year with the motorway traffic having to go through the town so they built that enormous bridge now they get more traffic in the town with tourists coming to see the bridge.
They need to build a bigger bridge next to it so that more people can see the first bridge... But then they might need to build an EVEN BIGGER..... Never mind They'll be fine with a bent bit of tin!
19. Woods and electronics I'd say. Some of the higher spec ones have nordstrand pickups in, which would probably make more of a difference than the woods used
20. That's a very good price for an F1!! Good luck to all prospective buyers
21. I quite like the look of some of the traben bridges, I mean it's no flashier than a posh pick guard
22.
Do you mean a mess-your-back-up amp?
That's the one I've messaged the seller trying to sort collection out but no response so far, my spine may be safe yet!
23.
WHoops indeed. There goes a disc.
100lbs apparently, that's twice the weight of my cabinet I wouldn't say it was particularly local, its a 300 mile round trip but considering the cost, and if it's in working order its gonna be worth it. I was only looking for a backup amp!!
24. I accidentally won this auction for a Peavey Classic 400... Looks like I got a good price though!! http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161575139082&alt=web
