1. Totally agree that valves are more suited to guitar amps. With all the amps I've tried you just can't get the same sharp attack and clarity that you can with a really good solid state amp. When I want a dirty, warmer valvey tone I just use a pedal You'd never tell the difference and it's a lot cheaper and more versatile!
2. I like it! Wonder if it comes in a HS model...
3. Higher gauge = higher tension. That's why it's advisable to use thicker strings with lower tunings, to prevent string flop
4. The only issue I have with my fan is that I have to take a few seconds to check it's on. If it's not, I blow into it to get it going. Did consider sending it back when I discovered the issue a few months after purchase but I didn't want to let go of it as being without it for x amount of time wasn't worth it

Mark Bass

If you're worried about the weight and portability, I've actually carried one of the older 2x10 combos (with the ports along the top and bottom, as opposed to just the bottom), and they're a surprisingly easy one handed carry. And I'm no beef cake
6. A female counterpart of mine who often sits in my living room (where my rig lives), still think it's "Mark's Bass"
7. They ARE taking the piss... Right??
8. I've never experienced that.. But once I put my F1 through a cab that didn't have a high enough power handling... As luck would have it, the fan hadn't come on on the head (an intermittent problem on F1s I think, easily fixed by blowing into the hole to get it moving ). Which meant it was running a bit hot, and shut itself off. I turned it off and on and was fine. So it's probably a thermal protection type thing
9. Very heavy, and the way it's constructed makes the neck seem ridiculously long. Will take you all of 20 minutes to get used to it and you'll be glad you did! They are actually very nice to play and a wide range of sounds. Those huge single coils also mean that you can get a very nasty aggressive attack if you need it too.
10.
But fortunes can be changed. Tanglewood were not exactly high in my estimation a couple of years back, yet with the beautiful instruments they are creating for Overwater, it really shows what they are capable of - no one on here would give them bad rep for those.
+1 I played a plywood P Bass made by them years ago And everything about it was shockingly bad. I'd happily play one of the newer ones any day though!
11. I have nothing to say except that I exclusively play Peavey basses
12.
Tinny - a term that describes a tone or sound with too much top end, and not enough weight. Does that help? I almost asked you to pop out to the car the other night to help me work out why my stereo sounds 'boxey'
A tinny is also a fairly well disliked name for a can of cheap lager What about if somebody says you sound 'meaty'??
13. That's awesome customer service there. I've ordered from them before and was really impressed with how quickly my order was processed and delivered. Have never seen packaging so secure in my life either! Your example of how they handled a problem with your amp really shows just how committed they are to their customers though. Jolly good show, and all that
14. Welcome to Basschat fellow Peavey Grinder I too felt the pickups weren't quite up to scratch, but not being into the whole active bass thing, I just got some passive Seymour Duncans Had a bit of trouble with certain pickups, but anything that's the same size as an EMG 40, and is a standard soapbar kinda thing will be fine
15. I call em kettle leads too. Only found out the real name for them like 2 months ago
16. I had a noise complaint letter from the council for playing my 'guitar' at all hours
17. "BASS SOLO!" That is all.
18. A high end Jazz with passive electronics? I'm in love
19. How the hell do you misspell 'Mesa' When it's written on the bloody amp?
20.
There is also the point that sometimes, possible opportunities don`t arise, if people think you are settled in a band, so leaving, and declaring yourself on the market could be good.
Strangely it's always been the opposite for me!
21. Great cover dude Aside from the slight timing issues, and the guitarist not quite being loud enough (which is quite a rare occurence! ) I couldn't fault it. Oh, and your bass tone is rather sexual if i do say so
22. Personally mate, I would leave. Spend your time doing/playing something more productive I was sans band for about 6 months last year after being in a situation similar to yours. I found that just being in the band put me in the frame of mind where playing bass was a ball ache, and something i HAD to do rather than something i wanted to do. Also paying studio rental every month just to keep re-learning 'new versions' of the same bloody songs over and over, and barely getting any gigs was just a waste of time and money! After I left, I actually stopped playing altogether for about a month, but when i went back to the bass it became fun all over again! I didn't bother looking for a new band as I felt I didn't really need to be in one at the time. It was only when I noticed that a friend of mine's band had just lost their bassist that I thought about it, and discovered I was ready again. My love affair with the bass has been getting saucier ever since Something will come along eventually, us bass players are a rare breed!
23.
I could never see myself actually buying such a fancy looking bass! i'll stick with good old solid / metallic colours
Best looking bass in this thread
24. The Laney Richter series amps are awesome, I had an R5 (now marketed as an RB7) 2x10 combo for years and used it all the time. Practices, gigs, you name it! Solid pieces of kit and they sound great too! Help ths guy out and you'll be helping yourself out too!
