1. I do this too! sometimes I get influenced by a bit of trumpet or sax playing but I can't say I listen to all that much music with those in. If I were good enough id probably think about doing piano parts too, but I might need to learn a bit more first!
2. I bet I could make a better cuppa than Flea
3. I don't go in as much as I used to, as i don't have as much cash to spend on gear these days. I used to be the guy who would go in and try a whole bunch of stuff, play it for ages, chat to staff and other customers about different gear, you name it. I'd have probably really pissed the staff off if it wasn't for the fact that I used to spend a few hundred quid in various shops every month on god knows what. Always used to pay full price as well, too polite to haggle in those days! Nowadays I have little money but actually spend longer trying anything out if I'm interested in it. Just trying to look after my pennies I guess but I must be a REAL pain in the arse! To make matters worse I generally bring my entire rig into the shop minus whatever I'm planning to try out that day to get a really good idea of how, for example, a different cab will work with it.
4. Aguilar onboard preamps sound awesome, so I'd assume their outboard pres are great too. I like the Sansamp offerings too, in pedal form or their rackmount jobs
5.
Talking of nutter magnets, a few years ago when our shop was Sound Control, we had a lad and his dad come in for a live bass rig. The lad had a somewhat unusual playing style. He would play a few random notes and then suddenly smack the strings as hard as he could onto the pickup. The amp went into overload and the speaker was screaming for help. I had to get other members of staff in to witness this. The string smacking had absolutely no relevance to what he was playing, but he kept doing it randomly. I kept plugging him into bigger rigs, but he punished every one. I finally plugged him into an Ampeg and 8 x 10" and even that still couldn't handle it. I ended up having to tell his dad that, due to his unusual playing style, we couldn't guarantee anything he bought. His dad shook his head and apologised, as he was now used to this sort of comment. That's one band I would love to have seen.
Wasn't me was it? I would've chucked a passive bass and a ridiculous comp/limiter his way. It's the only thing that worked for me!
6. C on the low B (or in my case low A) string. Proper fills the room
7. I'm actually disappointed it's not serious
8. Looked a bit like a Sansamp to me too!
9. This man is a legend. He made me the man I am today. Must watch
10. I've played a low B through a single 2x10 and it sounded fine. The added 15 would help too and would certainly be giggable. If you like the sound you get from the cabs already it should be fine really but if you do wanna upgrade you can't go wrong with a 4x10. My current cab handles a low A with ease!
11. I can now see why you wanted to get rid of that other beautiful Warwick!
12. Aaaaand it's gone. Cheers
13. Sounds like a pretty reasonable response. The true test would be to put it through a PA, or make a recording and see if its noticeable
14. They are taking the Michael, right??
15. I used to play one of these basses. Very very comfortable to play, and worth well more than the asking price! If you want to experiment with a 6 stringer this is the way to go!
16. Looks like a Les Payl style bass with EMG pickups. Can't seem to find it on the net but it Looks really nice! EDIT: Never mind, glad someone more useful strolled along
17. That's a great price on your PF500! How I wish I had some money lying around
18. Yeah they're the ones I used to use. The only strings i preferred soundwise to the Newtones I have now! Very bright, and work well with an aggressive attack. They're definately worth trying out and theyre cheaper than a lot of brands too. I hope they're the ones you're after dude
19. I've got a few unused sets of the Stadium Series (steel) ones and they do match the visual description.
20. The only strings I know of with that colour combination are Elites. But I don't know if they do brass strings or not. I hope that helps!
21. My current rig, but with a more high end fuzz pedal, and a barefaced super twelve t!
22. This is probably the best rig you could ever get for £650, good luck with the sale!
23. I can't stand the stuff either. Really boomy with a harsh brittleness. Also used a 1x15 combo for about a year where the sound would mysteriously change halfway through a song.
24. Not tried either of those.. But there is a programmable sansamp for sale at the moment on here. If you don't mind the mid scoop its very useable for tone shaping, adding tubey warmth, and is more than capable of overdriven tones too! The blend knob is probably what made me choose it over the VT bass which doesn't have one. Being able to save a few settings is incredibly useful too!
25. Even cosmetically the cab is more important, that's what everyone sees most of the time
