That's a great selection man I'd love to give those cabs a go. We'll sort out the meetup soon! Get in touch when you're available after this week dude

Man I've always LOVED that bass tone on Bogeyman! I've gotten close to it using a sansamp when really attacking the strings hard. Personal opinion here, but I'd go for the Ampeg head, they sound really nice! And with the pedal you'd get plenty of delicious Drive too

Thanks guys. Looks like i'll be sticking with pedals and not messing about with any rack equipment! Should I steer clear of the Boss NS-2 then? And does the Decimator cause any tonal issues if you leave it on all the time even when not using noisy pedals before it?

Those side profile angled shots are NEVER shown when someone's selling a bass. You're a good man! You're not kidding about the low action either. I'm perfectly happy with my Grind, and passive basses, but even I'd buy one of these if i had the cash! Always loved the look and sound of this bass. And it's only right to get a JM bass considering he's the man who got me into 6ers in the first place! Hope this makes someone very happy if it goes

I've never heard of a Rick with a bolt-on!

Unless you're moving so much air, your hair gets all messed up ruining your onstage look, combing shouldn't be much of an issue

If i played bass properly, i'd have a pair of vertically stacked 10's. Was GASing for some desperately, until i tried a bunch out with my current setup. I really wanted to like them too! Because I played two markbass 2x10s together on a metal gig before, tuned to Eb. AMAZING! I'd recommend it to anyone before the space stealing option of an 8x10 stack!
-
I toyed with the idea for a while, but I couldn't find any 2x10s that sounded big enough for such a low tuning. Which is a big shame because I'd love to have had a nice tall stack without the sheer bulkiness!

It is a beautiful looking bass! Custom may well be the answer if you want the best of both worlds. Glad you're keeping the overwater, you'd only miss it!
-
Well dude loads of people have different basses and thats cool for them. Me personally I prefer to have one specific bass and the way it feels is most important. That's why i kept the grind all these years and am working round the original tone with new pickups, custom strings, pedals, amp and stuff. Deep down I think you know what you wanna do though man. Could you part with the overwater?
-
I reckon you COULD tame the Status if you put it through the right pieces of kit. However, getting the Overwater to sound like a Status... don't know if that'd be possible!
-
I'm always checking stuff out partly because I like window shopping, and of course, 'just in case'! Also if I'm thinking of trading/selling it's really handy to see the going rate. I had a major cash explosion a few months ago and bought new pickups and a pile of lovely pedals much to the dismay of the missus, so I'm always tempted!

Very similar sounds to my Peavey Grind actually (Passive!) The Status sounds like the bass with the stock pickups, and the Overwater sounds like the SD's I had put in. One way I get a really nice warm but toneful sound (without too much of that high end zinginess) is to have the nck pickup with the tone completely off, and the bridge pickup with the tone completely on, and just adjust the volume levels to suit. I understand most basses don't come with a tone pot for each pickup unfortunately but I highly recommend it as you get so much diversity Halfway through typing this next bit I realised most of what I've said so far is likely to be totally irrelevant, but I hope it might still be useful/interesting... I MUCH prefer using both pickups together, just sounds 'bigger' to me. I also like to chuck it through a maxed out Aguilar TLC, sansamp (and varying other dirt pedals on top), markbass F1, and a nice warm sounding cab. You might say I'm bastardising a tone some people would kill to have, but it really works! And I don't sound like anyone else

I used to have a 300w Laney combo, unless i added an extention cab I could never get enough volume even at rehearsal levels. Even then it farts out a bit. Now using my 500w head through a single 8ohm cab (probably getting about 300w if i'm lucky), i don't even have to turn up halfway to be heard on most gigs without PA support! I suppose wattage has somethiing to do with it, but it depends how efficient the gear you're using is too. For example I get nowhere near the same volume with a 4 ohm ampeg 610 as i do with an 8 ohm markbass 410!

"but over all I see NO damage to Bass neck or body" No, it's just a very poor attempt at 'relicing'

Mornin bassers! I currently run my bass > pedalboard > input on my head. I have some fairly extreme options in my pedalboard, especially when i use any combination of the sansamp, marshall, and big muff pedals together! I've tried taming it down a bit, and where I can have dead silence with all three engaged, the tone just isn't nasty enough. So a noise suppressor/gate seems to be the only option! I was just wondering whether a pedal would be best, or whether I'd get a better quality, and less possible tone suckage with a rack mounted gate through the effects loop of my amp? (not to mention I wouldn't have to squeeze anything else on my board!) Any input welcome Cheers! EDIT: it's not a horrible screechy feedbacky kinda noise, it's that crackly humming sound that metal guitar players are so used to putting up with until they sort their lives out and get a gate.

Nice selection dude! I'm hoping to get a couple of Ampeg cabs soon but my collection still ain't a patch on yours!

Welcome to the site man! Useful indeed

Should we have an unrecommended luthiers thread?

I can see why you opened a poll, its so hard to decide!!

And the only people to ever ask to have a go on my bass have been other bass players that I trust! Maybe I haven't played enough gigs
