WITHDRAWN: Markbass STD 104HF cabinet FS/FT

I'm thinking of offloading this fantastic cab, due to the whole transparent thing not really being my bag any more. It's like new, save for a couple of scratches on the bottom of the plastic corner covers where it's been on the floor. It's big, even for a 4x10 and sounds it too! Is capable of producing more low end than you will need most likely, but is very prominent in the mids, and the highs are present and very clean. The 1" horn is the best I've ever heard, and the side of the cab has a dial where you cab adjust the volume of this, or even turn it off completely. This cab is 8ohms, I currently use it on it's own with a 500w markbass f1, and even running at half power I have never had trouble on a gig with no PA support, even when competing with 2 very loud metal guitarists, and i cut right through without drowning everything out. Loudest i ever had it was with gain on 1 o clock and master on 1 o clock I paid £899 for it a couple of years ago, and it's still in top shape, I'd probably get away with saying it's unused even though it's probably done 15 or so gigs. So I'd like [s]£600[/s] £550 for it. I'll consider trades/part ex too as I'm looking at getting something with a more organic tone. I'm very tempted by those front ported Ashdown ones with the black speakers and vinyl covering. I think it's the ABM evo 1's... I'm a bit of an ampeg fan too. So that's a fair idea of what I'm after If anybody wants me to put some pictures up I'll get round to it Let me know if youre intrigued or have any offers. Cheers!

Cheers guys, plenty of food for thought here! Tried out a few 2x10s here and there and didn't seem to have a problem blasting out a low A on any of them, even the apparently thin TC Electronic stuff! I guess cutting most of my options out due to 'frequency response' wasnt as smart as I thought I'm really going off the ultra hifi cab thing though, definitely moving more towards the likes of Ampeg, Ashdown, etc. The warm, organic voicing works perfectly with the rest of my setup, band, and playing style. Maybe it's time to say goodbye to the cab I thought would stay with me forever!

Hi guys, recently tried my markbass f1 head through a mag 410. Wow! I'm considering making the move and getting a couple of 2x10s but I'm concerned about the power handling. They say they handle 250w at 8ohms, and my f1 is advertised as 500w... However the sticker on the side says 550w? I don't wanna risk buying a couple of cabs that I simply can't use. Anyone see a problem with this? Cheers EDIT: No worries, had a bash in a music shop and didn't like them anyway

Neo clone has a permanent spot on my pedalboard, exactly the same as the small clone, only smaller! You wont get a better brand new chorus pedal than that for £50! The nano clone tends to have some ugly clipping thing going on with some basses so it's best to avoid it.

If it werent for that flamboyant top horn, and glued on neck, It'd be a very sexy looking bass!

Yeah the POGs sound very digital, and as you say shrill. I wonder if the markbass octaver will be any different! Hmm... clean... probably wouldn't work for me then
-
I actually well enjoyed that! Never really fancied an 8 string but my dreams of owning have octave pedal have started to return now...

Glad to be of service, I'll send you a bill

if my avatar keeps derailing topics like this I might have to change it behave!

The F1 is fantastic! I fell in love with it right away and haven't wanted another head since. I bought mine new for 600 and I still think I got a good deal. Do it!

Most of the time, everything flat, VLE and VPF filters off. I cut a little low end depending on the room and that's about it. Then if I want varying degrees of drive/distortion I turn to my Sansamp or Jackhammer, which have varying degrees of silly settings
Could it be that guitarists are more concerned with their playing skills and technique rather than constantly looking for some 'magic bullet' technology to do the job for them?
Guilty as charged!

I seem to be losing the bottom end when I slap!!
chrismuzz replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects
It sounds like, due to the technique creating larger spikes in your signal, it's getting compressed whenever you slap. Most compressors will lower the level of everything, even if it's only the highs that are peaking. If you are not using the multi-band setting, that might make a difference. Other thant hat, it could be either that you have too much compression on your EBS... OR it could be the built in limiter on the LMIII. I have noticed that when I play through my F1 head (with the older, harsher limiter) I have to turn down the compression in order to prevent any extreme 'squashing' of my sound. Like I always say, I could be wrong but I hope that helps! -
I'm happy with my bass, and my amp.. But still get incredible GAS when it comes to cabinets, pedals and pickups! Halfway there ey?
At the moment, it's just cabs! grrrr so close!
Just out of interest, what are your settings on the jackhammer?
I use the Dist setting Gain at about 2 o clock Volume at 10 o clock Treble at 11 o clock Bass at 1 o clock Freq between 11 and 12 Contour at 4 o clock It's a very extreme and unusual setting, but has great results! Very fuzzy almost Cliff-Burton esque sound when used on its own, or coupled with the Sansamp its an insanely aggressive driven sound. To my ears it actually sounds better than a distorted VT bass!

This might seem silly, but giving all your muscles a nice stretch, and massasing them gently, before and after playing can really work wonders. And don't forget those tedious warm ups/downs! Hope that helps you man! I had to do all that for a while when I started exploring different approaches to playing, but nowadays it's less of a necessity

Morning all! Just wondering if there is such thing? My Markbass 104HF is fantastic but it's bloody bulky and I'm considering a space saving option of two vertically stacked 2x10s. I don't want to lose that 35Hz beef though! Preferably front ported, and with a horn! Is there anything at all out there like this? I'd wee with excitement if there was something I could swap my 4x10 for two of! EDIT: I very much like the Ampeg SVT, Ashdown kinda sound. And with 2x10s being a bit smaller, weight isn't as much of an issue... after all I'm a growing boy!

'While you hunt for stagg, You've probably probably asked the question "What is a fretless bass guitar?"' Yes, shooting wild animals always gets me thinking about fretless basses, and what they might be
Don't get a combo, get seperates. Look in the For Sale section. There is a Markbass F1 just come up, then get a good 410.
Or this! The F1 is fantastic if you want a quick attack. I have mine through an 8ohm 410, meaning i get about 300w and ive still never had to turn it past halfway. That's when competing with 2 heavy metal guitarists! EDIT: There's a markbass 410 with rear bass ports on ebay at the moment, currently well under 500. take a peek
