1. Small world innit! Really glad that she's found the right band look forward to sharing some gigs with you guys!!
2.
P.S, If you play quite loud with both input and output at noon, the analogue head gets pretty warm whilst the class D stays much cooler.
This is something I discovered about Class D amps, they're a lot more efficient! You also seem to get much better headroom particularly in the low end. Apparently the dynamics are better too but I use so much compression you'd never tell
3. I've popped an email to Dunlop customer services with my comments anyways, the other set I got with the deal is still going strong and its been on for about 2 months so hopefully I just got a dud set and will get a replacement
4. Update on these. I broke the E string after just twelve hours of use! Not sure if I got a dud string but it doesn't fill me with confidence...
5. Apparently the LMT800 power amp has never changed, which surprised me... just goes to show that what may work for some won't for others!
6. Yep! The LM3 is now a Class D amp (like the Big Bang, not the F1) which means better headroom, possibly lower weight, and no change in tone!(?) One of the common complaints about Class D amps is the lack of warmth but it seems yet again Markbass are leading the way. I'd be interested to hear an A/B comparison I've also asked Riccardo if the LMT800 has had a power amp upgrade, because I have read lots of negative feedback about the head, saying it is even more sterile than the F1, but my brand new one sounds lovely and full even without engaging the tube preamp EDIT: My LMT800 was assembled in Indonesia and its the best amp I've ever used, build quality is actually of a higher standard than my Italian F1!
7. A partner who buys you a super nice bass is definitely a keeper congratulations on both!
8.
You seem to be making the assumption that the amp with the most stuff in it has to be better in some way. If Markbass are doing their job properly, and IME they usually do, I don't see any reason to expect a technical upgrade to be anything other than just that.
This. I reckon the heatsink thing is the most plausible. They are proud of the markbass sound and reliability so I don't believe they would make any changes that would have a negative effect on them
9.
I have received a reply from Riccardo:
That's pretty much what he said on FB. Not a very satisfying answer really as I'm sure they've done whatever they've done to improve it somehow. But this doesn't answer any questions!
10. I've posted this on the MB Facebook page, it will be interesting to see what has been changed!
11.
Nyahh!! Thppp!! Thhppppp!!! Arboretum.
arboretum noun a botanical garden devoted to trees. ...what?
12.
Good idea, I will email "][email protected] and report back here.
If you have facebook, Please post it on the "Markbass Amps And Cabs" group, Riccardo and Marco tend to respond to stuff on there, and a lot of the MB enthusiasts (including myself) would find it interesting
13. Welcome! Everyone is sound, if you see anything questionable, just remember that bass players are socially awkward and tend to have an odd sense of humour!
14. With a lower action you don't need to dig in as much, best advice I can give is to base your setup on how you play. I play quite hard at times so whereas my action is lowish, it's not as low as it could be.. and I leave a little bit of relief aswell. Experiment!
15. I'm a big fan of the right amount of fret clank and buzz when you dig in
16. This won't help in the short term, but can't you "copy" amps into the Kemper? If so, make your way to a bass bash and borrow as many awesome rigs as you can!
17. In my experience, D'Addario strings come up longer than most, I've never had to use 'extra long scale' even on 35" basses with through body stringing
18. I took a spare bass to a gig and both failed on me. Extreme example but goes to show That the unexpected can happen! I'd never gig without a backup these days. Pro tip: more basses means bigger variety of cool photos to set as your Facebook profile picture
19. That's really cool, might seem like a small thing but it makes a big difference
20.
Duff uses GK amps, so the MB or MB Fusion would be a good way to go for this. But really you should be able to get this sound with any clean amp set flat and using the VT in front of it. I used my VT with Markbass amps and it was great, could easily get that sound. Duff also uses the MXR M80 for added grit. I`d also look at a 410 or a 212, rather than a 115 - yes I know speaker sizes aren`t meant to have a specific sound, but hey, for the same size/weight box, you get more air being pushed, so more of the sound you want.
This is exactly what I was going to say. GK will get you 100% there! Markbass + a pedal will do the same trick but with more versatility
21.
well this topic made me feel a bit better about wanting to put the stickers on my upright ...
My uncle is an excellent semi-pro bass player of about 40 years and has stickers on the back of his EUB!
22. Lots of basses with "blank" fretboards have tiny dot markers on the side anyway... Could be worse, you could use LEDs!
23.
Weight is an issue, potential theft is an issue, insurance is an issue.
Most Marshall cabs I've come across have wheels which will make transporting them much easier Wouldn't worry too much about theft as long as you don't leave it unattended in a vehicle overnight. I reckon finding a dummy rig will be much more difficult than a real thing, strange as that might be!
24. I generally start with a bit of a noodle, then do a bunch of aggressive hits on the E string to see if the fret clank sounds right if it passes the aggression test I'll play a few bits from whatever song comes to mind at the time
25. I highly recommend the markbass 2x10 combo, add another 2x10 and you've got an incredible rig that will see you right at any venue
